Is anyone making N-scale sound?

Chip,

Here’s something a google search turned up:

Yes, Precision craft models are doing a loco with the QSI system, it’s an E7 , it’s in MR mag

I might look into one for my new N scale layout.

PROBLEM for N scale sound is acoustic. Ie:speaker size.

An ‘itzy bitsy’ speaker cannot move enough air to reach your ear with anything resembling train sounds. A 1" speaker in an HO car can’t reproduce sounds below 400 - 500 cycles. A above middle C on your piano = 440.

Soundtraxx has a ‘Surround Sound’ electronic ‘black box’ on the back burner. It requires a Surround Sound audio system (you supply) under the layout. Before calling Soundtraxx, have you checked prices on 5 channel or 6 channel surround sound systems for your TV?

You’d be suprised though! The TDP booth at Timonium a year or so ago (they are the guys who make the Trainspeed speedometers) had an N scale layout for demo, one of the trains was a PRR passenger train with an E unit, what brand of E unit I do not know, but it was outfitted with Soundtraxx sound, and it was incredibly good for such a small loco. I think the fuel tank was mostly cut out and made into a speaker enclosure. Even in the crowded and noisy building the sound was clear and solid - even the horns sounded good.
