I am curious about Bachmann’s HO scale 0-6-0T saddletanker steam locomotive. Is it modeled after a real prototype and if so did the real prototype locomotive run on steam power from water or did it use oil for fuel? i see no space for a fuel source such as wood or coal?
There is a coal bunker at the back of the cab, which could hold 2 tons of coal or so. These types were often used as shop switchers, for pulling dead locomotives around, and being short was a requirement, so that it could ride the turntable with the dead locomotive.
Let’s clarify that it is a steam engine, and that steam engines ran on wood, coal and oil, progressing in that order over time.
The 0-6-0T was a coal burner originally, and some may have been outfitted as oil burners later on.
Other than that Nigel isright about it’s purpose.
