It seems that everything that I have bought recently has been at lower than expected costs. Not just on Ebay either, but even my LHS has had very good sales lately. I’ve found items at 50% less than some of the best online dealers.
Maybe I’m just getting lucky? Or perhaps this is a VERY good trend…
I ordered some things from Walthers not too long ago and a lot of it was on sale. Enough was on sale that I saved paying the shipping charge plus saved some more above that. (That was off of their regular retail prices) But I think that is just some stores trying to get your business back since everything went up. But - - - Gas prices are coming down.
Summer is a slow time for this hobby. Hopefully, your LHS really is just clearing out old merchandise to make room for newer stock, but it may be that he’s got to pay bills, and he’s willing to take a smaller profit, or even a loss, just to raise some money. Hopefully, that’s not the case.
We just had a “sales tax holiday” here in Massachusetts. The Governor’s usual 5% add-on was waived. I didn’t need anything, but I went to my LHS and picked up a couple of Walthers traffic lights (on sale) just because there was no sales tax. Business, by the way, was booming. Lots of happy people walking out the door with big-ticket items - engines, DCC systems, decoders and so on.
If you have been out and about shopping these days, there are deals galore on just about everything. Take a walk through the mall–sale signs everywhere. Restaurants are coming out with all kinds of value menus, as well. It’s all about cash flow. “A fast nickel always beats a slow dime.”
