Is it just me, or did something disappear?

Did the dream, plan, build speical edition thread get deleted? I’m not seeing it any where and I havn’t seen any explaination. Did it really go that awry this morning, or was the constructive criticism just a little too much?

Ron

I don’t see it either, though I don’t know if it got ugly or what.

When a thread gets deleted, the one who started it will get an e-mail notice (with the reason why) so hopfully whoever that is will post what happened. Happened to me once and that is what I got.

Yup, I guess it must have hurt someone’s feelings. Here’s the notice: Your post was deleted by tsauer. Subject: Dream, Plan, Build Special Edition Reason: Negative post Thank you, Trains.com Forums Now that I have been officially chastised, I guess I must be extremely careful what I say, although I didn’t think what I said was all that bad to begin with. However, I saw a few later comments that were a little stronger, so maybe that did it? Only “they” know. Live and learn. After all, it IS their board and they can decide what they want posted. Ken

from the rare occasions that i’ve seen it happen here , the noderators nuke the whole thread if there are any objectionable posts . so it probably wasn’t your origina message that got it nuked , but someones later comments that went too far . i don’t know if they nuke the whole thread because they can’t just delete individual posts , or if they do it because they don’t like the way the thread is going and don’t want to have to keep monitoring it

either way it doesn’t happen often

That happened to me as well. I had a thread this morning that warned people about IE7 being ‘pushed’ onto their home computers before they realize it (Title = “Beware Automatic Updates”). The reason given was “Not relevant to model railroading”. However, IMHO it is relevant to any forum members who want to post pictures of their trains - and would lose that functionality if their IE6 browser was replaced by IE7.

“No good deed goes unpunished”

There was also a thread about in-laws, which seemed like mostly just venting. (I did mention that my father-in-law appreciated the trains, which was a little on-topic, but the whole thread disappeared.) I’d have to admit that it wasn’t MR-related, though.

Since IE7 directly affects this forum, I’d have to say that it was on-topic, but I didn’t see the later posts and it may have turned into another Microsoft-bash, for all I know. (Say, could you take Microsoft and bash it into something like a steel mill, maybe?)

It could be that this was pre-emptive. After all, we’re now on holiday break in the US of A, and the good folks that monitor the forum are hopefully taking a well-earned break. So, they may just have decided to do a little housecleaning before the guests arrive for Thanksgiving dinner.

Anyway, let’s get back to trains, and when we remember things we have to be thankful for, we can add this forum, and the hobby in general.

Don’t feel bad.

Most of us regulars have one deleted at one time or another. I had one deleted this last summer called “Under Arrest” if anyone remembers that. I was relaying a situation that happened to me and warning others not to stray too close to RR property as it is private property. Later posts got nasty and the thread just disaapeared. That’s OK though. It actually needed to go after the way that thread went south.

Think of it as an “initiation”.

Congrats, you’re officially one of the boys now!

always remember: Big Brother is watching you![:)][:O]

pretty much not an OT forum here, when I come here I usually hit this first. If someone wants to hit a virus warning up or installation issue, its OK by me.
I just wonder if its better if it gets closed and let it drop outa sight.

Well still it is better then one forum I was on. One mistake and poof I was banned. I even appologized but I got a very nasty letter etc etc etc.
Oh well, at least they telll you why you were deleted and even let you stay.

You just KNOW the way this thread is going though, it will be deleted as well LOL

I, too, had a post deleted because I said something that was less than flattering about Kalmbach’s decision to remove the train show listings from the magazine. I wasn’t nasty, not at all. But it’s obvious to me that the “company” internet forums are cracking down on criticism of late, and not just here.

This is when I’m glad that Usenet newsgroups still exist, where freedom of speech is only limited by your ISP.

Weather Or No Go New Haven

I was apparently one of the last to post and if my post, which was factual, was considered as contributing to the demise of the subject posting, I apologize to all those who responded thereto. Isn’t it a shame that the ruling authoritarian’s can not see that their actions are a cause of the cessation of active participation in any given program? Why must they try to silence dissent for the purpose of perpetrating a myth as to the value of any given product? To ban those who have objection or those who actively dissent is to limit the right of all within any forum and to invalidate all who seek to continue by adherence and this is not the right of the sponsor of any site. Ban me or delete my postings, as you wish, for it is you who will eventually be cause of the demise of this great hobby by and with your intolerate and close-minded attitude.

Notice the delighful additions when using a quotation. Perhaps tsauer can do something POSITIVE, such as correct these spftware errors. Perhaps Mr. Sauer doesn’t know that “PC” also stands for 'Personal Computer. Authority is a potent weapon. “Freedom” isn’t FREE.

I see no evidence that would support this statement.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
