I’m new to the forum so this may be a completely inappropriate question. But is it possible to get in contact with someone who was highlighted in a MR magazine article. I’ve been dreaming of building my own layout for years. I’ve spent well over $1000 buying stuff in preparation but i’m so overwhelmed by how to do it… how the wiring works, the controls, etc that i’ve never even laid my first piece of track.
In the February 2011 edition of MR I was captivated by Rick Van Laar’s Rosston, Joelberg & Holly RR 4x8 layout. I believe this is where I want to start. I action packed 4x8 but I need more pictures and layout details. Is is possible to contact Rick? Can anyone help me?
If you are looking to build a 4 x 8 layout, I would suggest picking up a copy of A Realistic HO Layout for Beginners by Lou Sassi. It was published in 1998 by Kalmbach. Lou has written several books. He is easy to read and does a great job in presentation. I don’t know if its out of print, but it is available on half.com for less than $10.00 If I wanted to build a 4 x 8 as my first layout, this would be the one.
Thanks - I’ll go check that out right now. I’m a detail person. I’ve already built 2 Sierra West models and loved them. My favorite thing will be creating realistic landscape the the idea of having a scenic divider thrills me. Back to my original question, is there a way to contact Rick, the person who created that layout. I would love more pictures. Thanks again for the reply! This is going to be a lot of fun.
To contact MR authors, send a message to MR staff, who will pass along your message to the author. He can reply if he chooses.
The author may or may not be interested in sharing his photos and/or information, as he’s already submiitted material to MR.
Good luck!
