Just read that the two E-8’s at VMT were sent to scrap. Is it true?

Before anybody gets too excited, these may well be ex-RF&P 1002 and 1009, which were always RF&P units. They have been out of service for a very long time. I remember seeing them at EMD’s 50th anniversary in 1972 where they appear to have been trade-in material.

Isn’t the historical Wabash E8 in question residing in a railroad museum somewhere back east?
