BNSF with it’s “swoosh” logo doesn’t seem to care too much about it’s heritage, although you could argue the orange and green was a nod to the GN of course…except now it’s orange and black. To some of us old GN-NP-CB&Q-SP&S fans, Burlington Northern was kind of an abomination on it’s own, then helping lose the great heritage and tradition of the Santa Fe just made it worse. At least UP has been UP from the start.
If only BNSF could come up with a better herald. Maybe a circle like the Santa Fe had, with something inside reflecting the western country the railroad serves. Maybe an animal?? Hey, what about a mountain goat?? Ya, that’s the ticket !! [:D]
The Burlington Northern and the Santa Fe was the best merger that could have possibly happend. The BNSF’s ‘New Image’ logo an outstanding logo. And much better customer service makes BNSF a GREAT Railroad.
Yes, the orange, green and yellow was supposed to be an adaption of GN’s paint scheme. Now that the green has changed to black, I think there’s one thing at fault here…Evolution. Over time, railroads change, and if it’s a paint scheme, so be it. You notice though that the paint schemes haven’t changed that much, and I think it’s an improvement. Also wouldn’t say that all of the Santa Fe is gone. For one thing, the name “Santa Fe” is still spoken by railroad crews (not to mention it’s still on the end of the railroad name). There are still countless locomotives and freight cars that still wear the Santa Fe name, and probably will for years to come, as long as they stay out of trouble (same goes for the BN units).
Rumors are like death and taxes…they eventually happen. Be warned however…the “foamer police” may jump on you if you insult their favorite road![censored][:D]
