Is looking for Proto 2000 SD60 Paperwork

Hi, recently picked up the above in Demo scheme, #8302, at Big Four Hobbies, and is great. It was pr-owned by a guy who switched to O. The problem is that either in his hands, the process of testing the engine by Zack, or be me opening the box, the paper telling me what ll the parts are and how they go on has dissappeared. It has been detailed, but it looks like the Proto had the window shade thingys, and a blinker on top. There’s also a square piece, a rectangular vent, and a rectangular flat section with an L border on the bottom side. Also a lot of little narrow window things.

Anyboddy who can tell me what those are or point me to a digital copy of the info. it would really help. Thank you!

I also have the #8302 Demo SD60, so I think I can help you out. The included detail parts should be:

2 cab sunshades (the large angled parts that go on the sides of the cab)
4 clear wind deflectors (the little narrow window things; they go around the cab windows)
1 large amber beacon and base (goes on the top-front of the cab)
1 small amber beacon and base (top-front of the cab, and is offset to the right slightly)
2 snowplows
2 or 4 (I can’t remember) ditch light housings and lenses (walkway ends)
1 winterization hatch (rectangular vent; goes over front fan on the back)
1 long sinclair antenna (rear-top of cab)
1 short sinclair antenna (front-top of cab, offset to the left slightly)
2 firecracker antenna (stick-shaped; top-middle of cab)
1 small drill guide
1 large drill guide

The EMD Demo includes the sunshades, large beacon and base, front snowplow, both types of sinclair antenna, and 1 of the firecracker antenna, which goes directly between the beacon and long sinclair. The large drill guide is for the parts on the top of the cab, and the small guide is for the parts around the side windows. I hope this helped!

Just a thought, but maybe you could scan the instruction sheet that YOU have and email it to him.

Hi Flashwave,

If you can wait, I can scan it for you on the week-end, I have a UP version but not with the three windows. If this may help just pm me and I’ll scan it for you.

Regards,

Nige.

Here are a couple photos to show exactly where all the parts I mentioned go.

Out of all the parts provided, those are the only ones that go on the EMD model. The cab sunshades are very brittle, so you have to be extra careful with them (I’ve reglued mine about 5 times now).

My instruction sheet is unfortunately packed in its box in the back of a long closet, so trying to get to it would be a bit of a pain.

I was able to get some from Walthers, they were quick. But the pics sure help. The engien was partially detailed as is.

Second question what;s up with the decoder inside?

Life-Like did their DCC socket design sort of backwards from usual, so everything is hooked up to the plug, and the actual PC board gets replaced by the decoder, instead of having it the other way around like 99% of other manufacturers. You have to replace the light bulbs with 12 volt (or higher) bulbs, or add resistors. Simply replacing everything may be easier than trying to work with what Life-Like put in.

Some decoders you can keep the original LEDs or bulbs. I was able to keep most of mine. (some burned out for some reason, but I have spares) I have DH16XL0s in my GP30s, GP9s, and U28B. Some of the older ones actually do have it the right way. (my SD9s have DH123s)
