I am building a Lionel O Gauge layout like my Dad and I built in the 50’s. I am using O tubular track like we did back then. The 022 switches are the same ones we used but I cleaned and refurbished them. BTW thanks for a lot of helpful information in this Forum on getting the switches working.
And that brings me to my question. I have a yard at the top of a “U” shaped layout. The yard is about 3 feet by 13 feet. It has two tracks running the full width and 8 022 switches.
To move from one track to another I have two switches attached through their curved legs. When and engine tries to cross over to the next track it stops on the second switch. I think its because both switches have their Fiber Pins still in. I want the automatic switch / derailing feature to work.
If I am correct about what the problem is, how do I fix it?
George (I would use a clever name if I could think of one)
I don’t understand how your yard is laid out; but, when two turnouts are connected as you describe (which seems to be a crossover), there is no connection of the common outside rails between the turnouts. That may explain why you can’t get through them. The simplest solution is just to provide another connection between the transformer common and the outside rails downstream of the problem, perhaps with an additional lockon.
To ensure good ground through this configuration, run a common jumper wire to the center post of every 022 in the area. This should eliminate any dead spots.
You benchwork is very similar to mine. What caught my eye was your 456 Coal Ramp and 397 Coal Loader. I have some questions about your layout, I will contact you.
