Is the motor already isolated on Athearn Genesis SD75s?
The motor is NOT the key item here. The motor ‘brushes’ need to be isolated from the frame. All of the Athearn Genesis line I have seen are DCC capable or there is a direct ‘light board’ replacement decoder available. BTW, the Athearn lights are 1.5v bulbs that draw about 30 ma, IIRC.

Yes, all Genesis locomotives are DCC ready.

Stltrains,
The motor of the SD75 is isolated from the frame.
I converted a SD75 a few weeks ago.
Others,
In my opinion the Genesis SD75’s are NOT DCC ready though!
DCC ready is when you can plug in a decoder, program and drive.
On the Genesis SD75 you have to solder the wires and put in 1K ohm ¼ W resistors, so what is DCC ready about this loco!?
Best regards
Cor
Sorry to disagree…The DCC ready engines come with a 8 socket plug. All that is require is plug the DCC decoder in and fasten the decoder down.If you are adding that 1K ohm ¼ W resistors you doing because you want to…I have already put decoders in 6 SD75s,4 SD70s and 2 SD60s for a for a fee and didn’t receive any complaints…
Brakie,
Its not wetter I want or not, its because if I don’t, I will have a flash light, but,… only flashing once.[:D]
But as I said, it’s MY opinion, they are not “DCC ready”, maybe due the plug, you could call the the P2K’s “DCC prepared”
But as of the Geneisis SD70’s didn’t see any 6/8/9 socket plugs in my SD70M/I’s or SD75’s i had to “hard wire” those.
The newer SD70MAC that loco is DCC ready, because i don’t need to solder any extra parts.
Like Kato, Atlas and most brands we have here in Europe, just plug & play, that’s DCC ready.
But as I said it’s MY option.

Ya know Cor,those SD70s could have been the SD70MACs…I do know that all I did was plug in the decoder, fasten it down and program it…My NS SD70s with the Spartan cab had plugs.
