Is there ANY way to use the forum format the rest of the Kalmbach site forums uses here on MR?

I have just about HAD IT with this site.

Every time I want to post something like a new topic with pics, all I can get is a stupid ultra basic field what looks like its for posting text-only replies from a iphone, no photo tabs, no fonts, NO CHOICES, NO OPTIONS, other than basic text.

This is happeneing on a desktop Windows 7 Whats going on with this? Why am I only allowed to enter text with no other options. I can’t figure it out. Any of the other of the Kalmbach forums and its no trouble at all, can post text, pictures, edit and change the context, yet MR has a VERY different format and its one that is NOT very user friendly.

(edit) OK heres another things thats screwed up, I post this, the site compressed everything into one big block of text, so I go to edit it and whattaya know, theres the FULL dialog box with all the tabs.

What the heck is up with this site???

I have the same problem with editing my profile. But that may because I regularly clear all my add-ons, cookies etc., for sercurity reasons.

Just guessing, but probably a browser problem from the sounds of it. What browser are you running? Have you tried another browser?

I doubt it’s the browser. They have been having problems with this site. They seem to be working on it.

@vsmith, the timing and wording of your post is confusing. However …

You may have noticed that the format of the Trains Mag forum was just changed without prior notification. It now appears to match the Model Railroader forum. Unfortunately, this must be the annointed Way Of The Future.

The new forum software has not been kind to me either, on a few fronts. I use to get 2 or 3 PMs a week and I don’t think I’ve had one since the new software upgrade. I guess nobody likes me anymore.[:'(]

I think it is the software though. Please don’t think me rude if I haven’t answered you, I just haven’t received it.[|(]

But on the bright side Waldorf and Statler haven’t recieved any complaints since then either.[(-D]

I once found a lop hole where I could go from the mobile site of trains to MRR, and have the old format. I haven’t repeated that stunt.

BATMAN: go to your profile settings, somewhere in there is an option to have only friends PM you, or any forum member. The default setting is friends only.

I use mainly a 7" tablet (not an iPad) to post to this forum. The type in the “Post Body” box is so small to be almost unreadable.

It may be the cause of this lilipution script is perhaps the devise.its self. I can I’ll try this out on a desk to PC that should be the fix.

I notice also that the tablet function where I can expand the image using my thumb & fore finger does not work on this forum.

Perhaps I should write a letter, cursive, naturaly & of course include a SSAE.

I bet Kalmbach would answer, despite the variable status of such communucations with many folks these days.

Many of the changes that look weird to those of us still using a computer are made to better accomodate mobile users. Kind of sad to hear that’s not working so well.

I do get PMs, but the fact that there’s no notification method visible on the site – the old “Messages” link would change color when there was something in the inbox – means I have to check manually – which I remember to do about once a month. [:(]

One of the easiest ways to find out problem’s with compatability with this site, on the right side of the top of the screen in the green box, where it says Welcome/Your Name, below that is Up-Date Your Account, click on that and Your info will show up on left, at the right top will be Having trouble logging on? Right below that, You will see cookies enabled? click on that and it will take You to a browser compatability test and tell where your system is or is not compatable and some fixes. You should have all green circles for all function’s to work properly.

As far as PM’s go…link them to Your E-mail notifiation and You always will know about when You have one, it still will be on the MRR messages. Works for me.

I’m not having any problems. The box in which I am typing this is surmounted by toolbars with all the standard buttons.

It’s a little annoying that I can’t resize the screen, and sometimes things get inserted at the beginning of the box, instead of where my cursor is,but that’s it.

is it possible that you’re somehow using the mobile site?

I am often shifting from one device to another depending what time of day it is. Currently its an Android phone but the mobile access on it is ridiculously basic. Pretty much text only…no font or size or pic options. Like Twitter with no word limits. If I switch to the “full site” pretty much nothing works other than simply read functions. Seams sometimes like the entire internet is being restructured around the stupid Ipads and to hell with everything else.

Typos thanks to the stupid basic aspect adding words it thinks I need. And I cannot edit anything from the phone application.

To better accommodate mobile users? If you consider horrible formatting issues on iPhones as “better accommodatting” us iPhone users, then yes you could say that. My problem is that any long link or some photos makes the post just go off the right side of my screen. Sometimes, I only see the left third of the post and/or picture. I can get around post that aren’t to bad by clicking on the reply button, but on the ones with really bad formatting issues, the reply button is off my screen. Same thing when I edit, I can’t post long links (I have to shorten them), and pictures. Then I can’t see half of what I am typing.
