Today while i was out and about i came across a few Spectrum K-4 Pacifics at a hobby shop for 110 bucks (HO scale of course.) Is that a decent price? I dont particularly need one, but wouldnt mind having one for display…but im not sure what the normal price for these is.
…yes, and with the advantage of being able to take it directly back if it doesn’t pan out for some reason. The store will refund your money if it is one off and can’t be fixed, or they’ll go to work on your behalf with Bachmann. If you order, it takes longer and you have shipping both ways. I know nothing about trainworld’s return policy, but I would guess they’ll back up what they sell.
Over the past few months I picked up 2 (in separate deals) on eBay, for about $40 each, including shipping. I didn’t need them either, but couldn’t beat the price.
Luckily, both are in excellent condition and run very well. Both were listed as new and, from the descriptions, the sellers had little knowledge of the hobby.
Unfortunatley for me, one is a “modernized” version that is too recent for my era. And I really don’t need 2 on my road. This one will probably go back on eBay this weekend, probably starting the bidding at around $30.
If you want to wait a few days, do a search on Saturday or Sunday (under Bachmann, less than $40) and take a look.
Thanks guys. Pennsy’s engines have grown on me (i blame the Pennsy Power book i got from ebay) and wouldnt mind having a few. 110 bucks for a nice steamer isnt much nowadays compared to a lot of locos, so for a display piece its just right.
or i may just wait hehe…(i posted before i saw the last post!)
About a year ago, I picked up a Spectrum K-4, post War version, with sound and DCC for $199.00 at my LHS. I would ask them if they would take $95.00 for a DC only version, it can’t hurt to try.
