I was surrfing around and found a web site that claimed ot be the site of a shortline railroad formed by railfans. not hard to belive. but here is the kicker, the name is the Katy Railroad. the photos look older and the line is supposedly accross kansas, oklahoma & texas but the highway map doe not show this railroad ( but they don’t show the Cimmeron Valley line either ) I thought it wierd that I had never heard of this line but I did not know abouth several Oklahoma shortlines either. What do you think ? here is the website

The Reading & Northern was founded and still is owned by a railfan. It started out as a 7 mile line and is now a few hundred miles!

The short line appears to have co-opted the logo and name of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas, a fallen flag, I think, and the site is whimsical, including the acquisition of a C&O (sort of) and a B&O (sort of). If you go to the Index of Magazines and run a Keyword search using “MKT,” as the search term you’ll wind up with a list of 142 articles about the MKT both as models and as a real railroad. Guess it was before your time.

Alright ,4884 Big Boy , it’s alright to be focused on a certain railroad , but you don’t know about the Katy, man that is sorrey . the Katy in my opinion was one of the best along with the Rock Island, Boston & Main, Santa Fe, and the Union Pacific. the Katy merged with the UP. the Katy ran in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, & Missourie.

Most certainly a hoax–the Bonham & Oklahoma wouldn’t have given up without a fight!! The borg Katy will not assimilate the the mighty B&O! As president and CEO of the North Texas Central, I will fight this all the way to the bank…ruptcy court!! NTCR will not be pushed around unless the price is right! We’ve had an eye on that McKinney line for quite some time!

Hey man I was just asking a question. No need to get angry. Who says I don’t know about the Katy? I’ve read a lot on the Missouri Kansas and Texas and it was a cool little RR. OHHHHH, sorry, I was thinking of the Missouri Pacific (MP) that merged with UP (along with WP) in 1982. SORRY for the mix up.

I wasn’t getting mad , it’s just that from living in Oklahoma you here alot about the Katy.
