I have a feeling that if NS wanted to make a regular program of painting units in heritage livery, the company would put out a press release to that effect.
We can hope that perhaps a rumor has preceded an official announcement. Don’t know that I’ll hold my breath, though.
Would be kinda neat, though. CSX, are you listening?
If you note the date on the hobbyist website, it was ten months ago. There’s been no announcements and no sightings. In today’s economic environment, it probably won’t happen, just some speculation.
Oh, I personally thought that N&W engine was just awful. What’s up with the yellow on the Wabash engine, makes you think the hobbyist was guessing from old b&w pictures.
about a year ago the powers to be did say that they would consider painting a few engines, nothing more has been said .
I’d love to see some painted in N&W blue and gold and Wabash.
How about a sd45 repainted into erie lackawanna? i think NS still has a few of them from conrail still in service.
Wabash is ugly but the others look great!
To date all NS has done is attempt to destroy every reference to merged or taken over railroads. They have been the equivalent of the Borg, “reistance is futile. You will be assimilated”. They have done everything they can to not recognise Conrail and pretty much prevent everything concerning the railroads that made it up. They are pretty contentious about anything related to the PRR and have already told the anyone involved the PRR K4 being rebuilt at Steamtown will never be allowed on their tracks. Don’t hold your breath on this one.
Must be why I’m still riding around on blue Conrail units almost ten years after the fact. Don’t really think they’ve done any differently than any of the rest and UP’s heritage units was to protect their tradmarks, was it not? I will say that UP seems to be the only large carrier that acknowledges any sort of heritage, with both heritage units and the steam program.
I’ve always found it ironic that the successor company to Norfolk and Western more or less swallowed up the heart of the PRR.
