is Union Pacific's locomotive #6582 LOST, STOLEN

I did a double-take this afternoon upon seeing Union Pacific’s # 6582 locomotive operating in my little town in British Columbia [:0]- it was the 3rd engine on a large freight train, trailing 2 CP engines. I think I saw it last month also, but so far I’ve not had the camera with me[:(]… next time.
-my guess is that UP sold it to CP recently and that is why it’s running 3rd (waiting a paintjob?), however somebody else may know the real story…

  • if it’s lost? - we’ve got it now[:)]
  • if it’s stolen? - we’ve got it now[:D]
  • if it’s sold? - we’ve got it now[8D]
  • if we’ve got it now? [^][^][^](thank you, nice unit, what’s the history behind it???[?]

Stolen locomotive, lol now that’s a thought!

Most likely run through power, a leased unit or a loaner to make up for the use of run through power. Dave Husman wrote a very good description of this in a thread in the Trains forum. He might be able to elaborate some more here.

Loco 6582 is a GE AC4400CW. It is more than likely run through power as CP and UP run pota***rains jointly from canada to north america. The 2 CP locos where more than likely AC4400cws as well. UP and CP only run AC locos together.By the way i am an aussie who models UP & CP rail. The information i have given you has been in trains magazine. happy modelling p campbell

Other day I seen a coal train come through town with the AC44 UP in the lead and another in the back pushing, but the second unit was a ? CP loco. Maybe they traded, wonder who got the draft pick??? FRED

Or the engine to be named later…

no info on this train. but yesterday morning i was sitting in economics and a UP train comes through. 6 SD40s i believe. i couldn’t count the cars at all but it was about 3-5 minutes long. (train going past my school) it was all UP locomotives and probably 50-60 cars. i saw CSX, Montana Rail Link, UP, Golden West, and i think there were some CN or something. i couldn’t tell. the paint was faded so bad. it was pretty sweet though seeing 6 locomotives.

Last time I checked a map, Canada was in North America. When did it move?[:D][:o)]

I take it you ment to say the trains ran from Canada to the US.[:)]

Lost? Stolen? Now that’s good.

No its on a run through train to the CP. Happens all the time. Its trailing because it happens to be third. When the train comes back it could possibly be the leader.

I’ve seen a UP diesel on a CP freight before several years ago in Regian, Sask. I noticed you’re from BC. Whe I went to BC a couple years ago I saw a UP and SP unit sitting together in the Cranbrook yards. I have read that there is a UP connection to the US at the border with the CP line that runs throught Cranbrook.

The UP connection is at Eastport (ID)/Kingsgate(BC).

6582 was built in APR 97 more than likely at GEs ERIE PA plant. Also watch out for EMD90/43 MACs&CEFX 90/43 MACs on these trains. The trains run to bonners ferry from eastport then onto sandpoint &Hinkle,OREGON.
