I recently bought an unpainted, unlettered N scale Spectrum 2-6-6-2 Mallet that makes more noise than any other loco I own. I’ve tried oiling it and running it for long periods of time in hopes of breaking it in and loosening it up in hopes of quieting it down. My plan is to make it into a Rio Grande, but before I do I guess I’m going to have to stock up on ear plugs…
Does anyone else have one like this ?.
Tracklayer
I also have one (the second one, sent the first one back to Bachmann) but it is silent because it will not run on Atlas Code 55 track when the wheels are gaged correctly for the code 55 track the connecting rods hit on the valve gear and then stops (same problem as the first one).
I again contacted Bachmann and have not heard back on what they will do for the second one that still will not operate on Code 55 track.
The loco is a very nice looking unit and for the price should operate correctly.
Both of the units that I received had the wheels so far out of gage that they would not run on a straight section of code 55 let alone go through turn-outs or crossings. The wheel width and flange is about the only part of the wheels that is within NMRA specs on the ones that I received.
I have the ho and it runs like a watch
