Italy

Does anyone know where/if there is a hobby shop in Naples or Rome? My wife is going to visit our daughter in march, and I can’t go. I’m hoping she can find me a Rivorossi heisler or some other cool model from there. Any ideas?

Hi,

I do not speak Italian, but this is what I came up with http://rivarossi.hornbyinternational.com/stockists/?page=1&root_rid=11&second_level_rid=76&third_level_rid= .

Got this from the hornby site http://www.hornbyinternational.com/

Hope it helps.

Frank

Thanks for the good info, Andre. Im sure that I can expect something good from over there!

If you purchase the “new” Hornby/Rivarossi, you’re going to get a Chinese manufactured product which you could probably get cheaper here in the U.S.

You don’t need to speak Italian. I have an Italian ex-wife. Speak English very loudly and wave your hands a lot!![:-^]

I doubt, that you will be able to save money by buying in Italy. European price level is much higher than in the US. In addition all sales are subject to Italian IVA, that is a sales tax of 20%. As a non-EU resident, you may be able to reclaim this upon leaving the EU, but it is a clumsy process, that will add a few hours to your departure.

Cacole is quite correct in this outlook. I was in northern Italy a few years back and although I was staying with locals, and even with their assistance, found hobby shops that carried model trains extremely few, even in the largest cities. On visiting a couple of these with the idea of bringing home some examples of local trains, I found most models were of German, or Swiss, prototypes and prices were much higher than I could have bought the same item for back here in the States!

Incidentally, I’ve had much better luck with prices and local selection of equipment on trips to Japan and Australia. [;)]

Well guys I think I’ll rethink what I want for across the pond! My wife would get me anything I want, but maybe I’ll just go with an old coin. The Heisler I have came from Trainworld, but I have’nt seen it in there add for a long time. Any ideas on where I might find one?
