you can get some great looking items for your layout. I went to Walmart the other night and looked at the christmas section (yeah I know chrismas already), and saw some things I can use and maybe some of you for you layouts. They had a 3 pack of pine tress for about $5.00. They also had some grass mat’s that looked great for $3.00. Even had some headges for sale to. I don’t really need the trees covered in snow or the trees that light up. You might wanna look next time any of ya’ll are in the christmas section.

When I first read the title, something else entirely different jumped front and center in my mind:
This is the season when outfits that normally have little connection with model railroading offer gaudily-painted versions of very plebian rolling stock at ridiculously overinflated prices, usually through glossy direct-mail fliers.

Chuck, the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the title to this topic was . . . . . . . . . .
Oh, no! You don’t mean my sister is going to give me another Toys ‘R’ Us car, or another Vlassic Pickle car, or another sixty foot tall semaphore?
Those are the kind of train gifts I get if anything train related at all.
I saw some of those trees and hedges last year. They looked like they would work on an O gauge 3 rail, but they were kind of big for HO.
I’d like to get my hands on those backdrops they’re using for that display.

I did find a bunch of “display” Christmas trees when I opened up my old trains a few years back. They were a disturbingly unnatural shade of bright green. I found a can of “moss green” spray paint, and attacked the trees with that. They’re now quite acceptable.
The trees here are all $1 store & Home Depot Christmas decor stuff - they’re meant for the grandkids to enjoy (me too!)[:D]
