Its FINALLY Here! Its Sept 1st Man! WooHooooo!

Ok, so what is all the excitement about you say? Has this guy been sniffin the happy glue again? Nope, its the 1st day of September, not pay day, not vaction, not a holiday… but the end of August which means the end of summer and means, that around the corner…

NO MORE 100 Degree DAYS IN THE GARAGE! Yes, as you can tell, I am very happy about this.

I can relax and enjoy it myslef out there rather than thinking I am on a survival test of wills… “Oh man, just 5 more minutes… Honey? Can you get me another towel? Oh [censored] I cant see, I got sweat in my eye again!”

Yup, cool times means long days in the garage playing trains. I cant wait!

All I Can say Is I Agree With you John, No more Leaning Over the Track while being sweatty And getting Electricuted! Just want to run the trains and not play Frankenstine. Cool Weather on the way!

WhooooHoooo,

Carl…

I agree, Around it has cooled off the past week and I have been doing a lot of work on the layout and with all the sanding and such I am glad I can open the door and get some frash air. I am lucky I guess, I have a room AC that is good, but I feel like I am cooped up Enjoying the weather. Mike

I prefer the cooler weather in general. Summer is good for the beach but I never make it there anymore anyway. My apartment is always humid though, so I still deal with that while working on my layout.

OK,

Isn’t the “Diesel Tsunami” supposed to be available this month?

Waaaahoo! Although for me it is purely that I am that much closer to getting my mammoth garden put to bed for the year (another five weeks on the east coast of Vancouver Island), my online teaching has finished until after Christmas, and choral singing commences on Tuesday (Mozart’s Coronation Mass).

I think I will be able to re-start work on my layout at long last.

I’m happy for you, Big John.

Now, lemme see the dance…

Sorry, Antonio, but you lost me. Am I missing something here?[%-)]

YES!!! I agree. I love the Fall season in New England. Temps are in the 70’s, 50’s at night for great sleeping, Very low humidity, the grass has really slowed in growth so no more mowing, the garen is just about finished ( one good frost and it IS gone )…yes, the Fall season means much more time available for MRR’g.

beep You answered incorrectly.

The correct answer was C. not D.

A. Monkeys should rule the world.

B. Trains should rule the world.

C. September is bad because kids have to go to school.

D. September is time to play with trains.

(D. is right for adults that live in hot areas, I live in Seattle, And I call 75 degrees hot.)

I got an e-mail from a man on eBay, whos item did not sell (no bids) I offered to buy it from him for the starting price, and he said, quote “No thanks. I do not take offers. It is only the beginning of Model Railroad Season, and I will be able to sell it if I relist it” MRR Season? “Be verrrry, verrrry quiet! I’m hunting Athearns!”

Also, Sept. 1 means that in 4 days I have to go into Juvinile Detention (High School, for us Oxfordians!)

Phil

So, John…Was the avatar picture in your profile taken at the SAME time last year? Or, was that just a subtle mambo move in mid-summer because your sandals are beginning to melt to the pavement? [:)]

Tom

Ah Yes… September! That wonderful time of the year. Starting in just a few days, I will get back to my routine of hearing brakes squeal around 7:30 AM, look out the window and notice a big Yellow thing down the street, and go back to bed and sleep another hour… Ah… September, the most wonderful time of year for a retired teacher. YES!!! [}:)][:D]

The only down side is that now I have to get done all the stuff that I have been putting off doing (like working on the wood pile so I can stay warm in the Winter) since last Spring. [:(]

Ya I’d hate to have a model RR in my garage, when it was 100F out it must have been 10-20 degrees hotter in there.

This year aside (due to a move in June), summer has usually been my busiest model times. I’m pretty much an indoor guy, and like to paint/glue etc. when I can open the windows for fresh air. My busy time at work is usually January-April so I try to get as much done May-Dec as I can so I can just operate (play with trains) during the busy time.

This year I have some time off in November I hope to use to get the basics in of the new layout, but it might be interesting if we can’t swing a new furnace / air conditioner until next year, since we didn’t realize til after moving in that the basement has no heat or AC registers, so I’m guessing it will be a little cool in November in a Minnesota basement?? [:)]

Doing that, too. I started doing it at the end of my daily run. I am sweaty anyway, and nicely warmed up, so I grab some gloves, a maul and an axe, an have at about six big chunks of fir. Gotta keep toasty this winter!

Yea whell September 1st means I have to go to School.[V]

wjstix: You bought a house without looking in the basement for a furnace and no hot air registers ? ? How was the house supposed to be heated, I would suppose it can get pretty cold in Minn. in January, so it might be a little nippy at 40 below.

I love fall but we have to go to school![censored] lol And my mom is having a operation so my month might stink. (people most lilely no what I mean) Whens October coming? Tim

Sorry to say this but Yeah kids back in school, no more having to put up with my nephews what ya doing phrase. He’s 11 yrs old and I wanted to tye him to my HO tracks and letaq dash 8 run him over at times. But its funny today is my first day without the little butt and I sorta miss the ok so whats that your doing on the layout uncle lol.

Van Isle has an EAST side? Just kidding, geez, don’t get your shirttail in a knot. Have a beer, eh? Is the Budd RDC still running up to Nanaimo? I’d like to ride it before they shut it down. Have fished out of Ucluelet, and last month in Sooke, I got 2 nice 7 lb. Sockeye, brother Wayne (down from Ft. Mac, AB) caught a 30+ lb. Spring. Are they still running steam trains around the mill at Pt. Alberni? jc5729

Big John,

I can appreciate your enthusiasm! I’m only sorry I can’t share it.

It may be September, but the weather weenie is still predicting daytime highs (usually reached before noon) with numbers in the century series (102 at the moment, after earlier reaching 103 outside and 115 in the garage.) Overnight lows (reached for about seven minutes just before sunrise) are still going low-mid 80’s.

The long range prediction is for a mere 95 on Tuesday. I’ll believe it after it happens - if it happens.

I really want to get into some heavy benchwork assembly - but not if the steel burns my hands.

Chuck (impatiently waiting)
