I was taking some time to sort through my photos and label the type of locomotives when I ran across this.

Ok, what is it, I thought it might be a tunnel motor SD 40-2? The number is clearly 2841, it seems to be missing form all the UP rosters I have checked. Why in the world is it not listed on Union Pacific’s loco roster?http://www.uprr.com/aboutup/locorost2005.pdf
Its a SD45T-2.
From the looks, its been renumbered. Also may be enroute to a leaser.
It was an SD45T-2, it is now an SD40T-2. By coincidence I saw 2833, 2846, and 2850 yesterday. I saw the last two again today.
Thanks, so what is the difference between a SD45-2T and a SD40-2T? I would assume it is just had its 20 cylinder engine replaced with a 16.
Many of the locomotives in that series were turned back to their lessors after only a few years in the UP fleet, look for it as a CEFX loco now (CIT Financial).
Not to be the fricken rivet counter here but UP actually called them “SD40-2T’s” for some reason or another after they grabbed the 20 cyl. out and slapped the 16 cyl. in.
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=238935 Looks like it’s still on the roster as of 11/5/05…
