It's official - I finally get an Atlas!

The negotiations were sticky and almost debilitating, but the other “guy” blinked and I have the following item on its way to me.

[:P] I have had a yearning, slowly coming to a boil (not the sore kind, the water kind) for this diesel, and mainly for an Atlas that you guys keep raving about. I figured, too, that when the Y6b hits the rails on Christmas Day, it will feel out of place unless another company loco is sharing the yard tracks.

Did you take a look…it’s black as coal! [:D]

Thanks for sharing my enthusiasm.

Crandell,

A good freind of mine in my club has one of those, in fact exact road and all. It’s amazing. I was floored by the sounds and man, can it pull. You should be very, very happy with it. Good choice!

Do you remember the SD45 deal with my wife? Well I took it back and ordered a 8-40CW from Atlas as well. And yes, it is the Gold Series! It should be here Monday… I know how you feel!

Well, John, I am sure you know we all feel you are a very lucky fellow to have such an understanding woman cheering you on. She is open minded, keen on you, and interested in making you happy. If that meant returning a gift to get something better, so much the better…is the way she looks at it. I hope the two of you have many blessed years together. Maybe you can post a pic or two of the new diesel strutting its stuff when it comes?

I had also read about this particular model’s pulling power. The guy who does my decoder work has one in CN livery, and I can see that it must have been a very large engine. He said it could peel the paint off the wall. I am also quite taken with its colour and simple shape. It must have been a fairly imposing beast in its time. My steamers will grumble and complain, but they’ll shuffle over a bit to make room. [:)]

Wow - if Crandell can break down and buy an Atlas diesel then maybe pigs CAN fly. I have a few of those babies in CN and CP (non-DCC though)… they are whisper quiet and look great. Good for you. Enjoy!

Cheers.

Yes, she is very understanding. All though, I have to admit, her reading this board for those days has really helped her understand the issues I was haveing. But in the end, she just wanted me happy with what ever I got and to make sure I got something! Man, I hope it is here Monday…

Ill show you mine if you me yours? [:-^]

I really like those Trainmasters, I have a CN version and 1 CP. I would like to add another CP sometime in the future. I found it strange that CN only ever had 1 of them. The detail on them are just incredible eh.

It oughta be…since N&W was notorious for pulling it. [:)] Hey, Crandell, I’m happy for you! What years were those highhoods built and used?

Tom

Congrats. I’m happy for you. I know you don’t get an engine just like that everyday and think before doing it. So I’m happy that you got it.

Magnus

First off Congrats!

That Black paint is so not to offend the coal mines that supplied most of the revenue. Coal.

Enjoy it! I gott tell ya, it wont be your last!

Good for you Crandell. I have a Wabash version of it and really like it. Enjoy the model!

Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes. This morning, at the breakfast table (ahem), the other guy said, “I thought you weren’t going to get any more locomotives.”

Fair observation since she is perfectly correct.

“Well, I have had to retire the IHC Mike because it has been repaired once and the valve gear still doesn’t work properly. The deal was I could only get a new loco on replacement, so this will be the replacement.”

Sideways look from the other “guy”. That meant, “okay, for this time.”

Whew.

Tom, 1953, according the blurb on these engines that Atlas provides, was the year they were introduced with the most powerful version. If you go on fallenflags and find N&W diesels page, you will see four or five on the scrap line looking mighty used and fore lorn. There are no good colour photos of them in use on that site.

-Crandell

Congrats on the Atlas. I know I love my GP-38. I just wish I had a venue for it.

Crandell,

I was won-der-in’ if the other “guy” was who I thought it might be. [:)]

Since you’ve got the Trix Mike now, I’d retire it, too. Crandell, give us the blow-by-blow when the new locomotive arrives. (I mean, you know…how it runs. [swg])

Tom

Will do, Tom. BTW, the Tsunami comes out of the IHC and goes into the Trix. I have decided that I don’t care for the early Loksound. I don’t like the non-playable whistle, don’t like its hissing and popping, faint thought it is, when it sits idle on the powered tracks, and the decoder loses its momentum and intertia settings all the time. Baah! I figure the Trix deserves better… and I won’t look back.

You must be about ready for some WPF stuff of your own…? Are you beavering away on something?

I just had a bit of a fright. My installer buddy sent me an email saying that the site says they are sold out. I quickly checked, and he is correct that the road number has “SOLD OUT” in blue letters immediately after the listing. I sent an email to discountrails.com and said I’d accept a different road number if I had goofed and ordered one that is not available…although I was pretty sure there was no blue print after the listing that I saw when I placed the order.

I got a reply shortly that said I got the last one. Does it get any better?
