Been there, done that. Amarillo for four years. Nice thing though, your 103’s tend to come with breezes. Here, it just SITS, LOL! Although I think it’s a little more humid down there in Austin, isn’t it? Anyway, it doesn’t matter much where you are, IMO, heat STINKS!
When I was stationed at Bergstrom it wasn’t so bad. At least I didn’t need gloves to pick up my tools.[:-^]
At Edwards, I finagled my way onto the night shift. By the time I headed for the barn I needed a field jacket.[swg]
Never was formally stationed at Nellis (but I have Raptors flying over my roof right now.) During July and August, the only time it’s 101 in the layout space is about 2 AM.[(-D]
For general information, a yawl is a two masted, fore and aft rigged craft with the mizzen mast stepped aft of the rudder post. When I was living in Tennessee, I never could figure out why people thought I was a sailboat.[:D]
Speaking of AC: Ever since BG&E jacked up their rates 70% last year [and destroyed my mrr budget[:(!]], we only turn it on when we absolutely must - like when it hits around mid-90’s.
To paraphrase Jack London, The coldest winter I ever saw was a summer day in San Francisco! Spent 55 years in the Bay Area and saw incredible variation in weather, often in the same week. But we get accustomed to “generally mild” and forget about the extremes. jc5729 John Colley, Port Townsend, WA
Well normal weatherwise… I won’t speak for anything else related to my state. Anyway… I meant you could count on cold winters and fairly hot summers. We don’t even have what could be considered “fall” and “spring” anymore it seems.
We’re in Bloomfield, NJ, today. Cold and rainy but not at all unexpected. Nothing can compare to winter in Oswego NY. The lake freezes over, then the wind picks up. The wind and tidal forces loosen up the ice. Before you kow it, ice crashes to shore tossing chunks a hundred feet in the air. Thats January. On Labor Day weekend, we had sleet on the ground but the day before we were out in the lake swimming. Weather there changes faster than a politicians position on any real issue.
After retiring from my job I decided to drive a cab in San Francisco, which I did for 5 years. And when ever I started to mention the above Mark Twain quote to my passengers, it was amazing to me how many people have heard it.
Yup, our summers are usually pretty cool but not these past couple of days and summer isn’t even here yet!
I know this post was off topic but I appreciate all the replies, it’s been fun.[:)]
Speaking of heat and San Fran, I just spent an enjoyable week there on business. Being the dedicated modeller here is my motel room up on Nob Hill, snapped Monday evening.
I got quite a bit of prep work done on a BEST trains switch tower that I am building.
104 by the temperature gauge out by the pool. Supposed to cool to 102 tomorrow and be in the high 80’s again by Tuesday. Needless to say, I’ve been out soaking, LOL! Fans are going like crazy in the garage, knocked Fred out of the ash-pit car. Oh well, at least the track’s not warping[:-^]
Wow - the highest temps we’ve had are in the 70’s, but most of the time it’s been 60’s or cooler. Today it’s 53 and rainy, but I’m not complaining. I can live without summer heat and electric bills.
