IVb Superliners!

I don’t think this has been posted here yet, but Walthers plans to issue Superliners in the latest IVb paint scheme. And the best news…these new cars will have full interiors with the option to add lighting.

So place your advanced reservations now…these are bound to be very hot [:P]

Walthers IVb Superliners

Great! I can’t wait.

Now if they would release some more P40’s.

Now im really going to be broke :frowning:

Great news on the Superliners…

And with the expected delivery of October 2007, just in time for my birthday too!!

Excellent!!! Looking forward to those…

Any sugestions on what engine that would be suitable to pull them? DCC is a must or atleast an 8-pin plugg. Because those are nice and I would probably wan’t one or two for display and ocassionel running.

Grab one or two of the Walthers exclusive Athearn P42s in Phase V paint, they will look and run great, all mine do.

I have 2 of these, one from their original making which was included with the walthers superliner set, the number is 207, the other I have is the newer one, #28 which is very nice, it has direction headlighting with 2 mini bulbs in front, the details are very nice. If Athearn were to make more of these for walthers I hope that they have the bolted nose modifacation.

As for the superliners, wont the windows be to dark to see the interior, otherwise they sound very nice and I’ll have to get some

Lillen,

The Athearn/Walthers latest P42’s (roadnumbers 28 and 116) are DCC ready. I’m planning to get two and renumber them with the new Microscale set. I’m also looking into getting Loksound decoders for both units.

Here is a link for the DCC ready P42s: Athearn/Walthers P42

mj5890,

You might want to join the Amtrak modelers group on Yahoo. There was a recent discussion on simulating a “bolt-o-nose”. Here’s a link: Amtrak Modelers

As for the windows being too dark…well they are very tinted, but you can definitely see through the cars. This is especially noticeable with the large windows of the lounge. When you add lighting the emptiness inside is all the more noticeable. So I’m very excited about interiors. I already had plans to make my own interiors using commercial parts and scratch built parts. I even purchased a Superliner book on eBay that had floorplan diagrams of Superliner I’s in their original configurations. This book might still come in handy though for any backdating I may have to do to the Walthers interiors.

What does DCC ready mean on these ones? Is it a simple 8 pin plug and off I go? Or is it a 9-pin plug?

Thanks for your help guys,

Magnus

hi Joe here

Thank you Southwest Chief, the Yahoo groups is very interesting, but I wouldnt want to try to model the bolt-o-nose myself because I might ruin it. Also you are prabably right about the windows, on the model you would be able to see the interior if there was lighting instaled, like on the real superliners at night when the lights are on, not only do the superliners look cool but you can also see inside, not enough to see a face but enough to see an outline of a person.

As for Lillen, the DCC ready quick plug for the Walthers P42DC is a 9 OR 8 pin plug, to instal the decoder you just unplug the DCC jumper board and then plug in either a 9 pin or an 8 pin plug it, it also says in the instructions that if a 8 pin conector is to be used it will have to be soldered into the adaptor board.

Back to the original subject

I hope walthers still makes the superliner I in the phase IV scheme because I still need 1 coach and 1 sleeper to complet the CA zepher that I am modeling, as for the IVb I might buy a couple to mix with my IV superliners to model the transiton between the 2 phases and then if I like them I will probably model a whole train with them, probably the City Of New Orleans.

As SilverSpike said they wont be comeing out until october 2007, which by then Amtrak will have made some tinny little adjustmen to the paint scheme

Mine too! I recently sold off my Phase IV P42 and am currently looking at getting a Phase V instead, I like the current paint scheme a lot better. I also have an Atlas 8-32PHW in Pepsi Can. Long live Amtrak! Modern day Superliners will give me a bit more variety than my 3 Horizon coaches.

Anyone know the minumum radius of these beasts?

How long is each car?

Magnus

Not sure about the new ones Walthers is comeing out with, but the ones I have now are 85 feet and they work alright on my 22 inch radius curves.

I can’t wait for Walthers Superliner IVB cars and I am looking forward towards this years Walthers Exclusive AMD-103 locomotives. Now all we need is Phase IVB Amfleet and Horizon Cars, former Metroliner Cab Cars, Surfliner, and Amtrak California Cars.
