I have added 40-50 more pix to my gallery, and I’ve captioned almost all of them (I think).
Also, I am using my actual name now.
If any of you folks do look at them and notice any seeming caption errors, please let me know what they are. The captions are very general (I didn’t attempt to note the locomotive types, for example, which would be impossible for me anyway), but they do list the location as best I could discern from my records; and the date, or at least the month, or at least the season! A few shots have no dates, but some of that data will eventually be tracked down. (Like I’ll find a shot of a guy who was with me on a certain day, then see if that shot is dated. Snore. Or however I can.)
The captioning was as big a grind as I expected. Like about six twelve-hour days. A lot of detective work, and a lot of secretarial work. Really glad that’s over.
Dean, (Aka L.O.) I find your posts, travels, career, and photos are great and I get vicarious pleasure reading, and seeing and visualizing what you captured. Thank you.
It may sound nuts, but I think the ones I liked the best were the ones of the surviving coal towers. Built to last, they’ve always struck me as “American Pyramids.” You know the saying? “Man fears time, time fears the Pyramids!”
Thanks so much, Wayne and Paul. I enjoy sharing the pix with other rail buffs. I’m going to try to interest a book publisher in the work, and the comments I’ve gotten here are quite encouraging. I very much appreciate the kind words.
