Ok not really. I’m trying to fix up a United 2 truck Climax and I notice that the driveshaft to one of the trucks is missing the black sleve and yoke on that end. Anyone know where I could order one or is this gonna be a DIY job.
Rick–
I’m just taking a wild guess, mind you, but I’m wondering if that sleeve and yoke could be possibly replicated or replaced by one of the NWSL Universal ball and socket sets. I know they’re made in just about every size you can imagine. If your LHS handles the NWSL sets, you might take the loco in and eyeball some of them. I know I’ve been able to replace connections on some of my older brass locos with them very well.
Just a thought.

I’ll check out the drive when I get home to see what the output and input shafts are. I know the Diveshaft is square.
OK so I checked. The side of the driveshaft that is still attached is the one coming from the ‘gearbox’ in the middle. It is on a round shaft with a set screw. I could remove that no problem but the end at the truck appears to be part of the worm gear the truck and not enough material to get in there.
Rick–
Any chance of a larger photo without the red highlight so I can take another look?
Tom
Sure can. That was a pic I swiped from ebay. I do have square brass tubing that fits inside the open one

In pic 5901, you can see the set screw that removes the yoke from the output shaft but there is not one on the input to the truck. It seems to be that it is a one piece unit that combines the worm gear of the truck. (If someone has had one of the trucks apart and know that it isn’t email me). I do have some square brass tube that slides inside the shaft on the other side does but then it comes to the universal and the ‘round cage’ around it. I don’t think getting a dogbone into the truck U joint would give enough mobility in the joint and would lead to binding. I’m open to suggestions

Ric–
I’m completely buffaloed by this one, just looking at the photos. It seems you have two entirely different types of universal drives due to the offset placement of the main gear. Is there a LHS close to you that is fairly full-service? If so, I’d take the loco in and show them the problem. What’s throwing me is that screw coming out of the end of the gearshaft–it looks as if it should connect to the insert in the universal, but if it does, I’m like you–how much binding would it cause.
Boy, I’ve never seen anything quite like that. Like I said, I’m stymied. I hope that maybe someone else is following this thread that might have some ideas. I really wish you luck!

Thank Tom. Appreciate the help
If you have access to a full service RC car shop, you might be able to find a metal dogbone in their parts inventory. There are lots of different sizes of aftermarket dogbones used to connect the various components of RC cars.
