I've Done It Now!

Yes, Yes, Yes! I couldn’t control myself and one new GG1 Semi-Scale Locomotive is heading my way via Williams. I have always loved that GG1 unit! The back cover of CTT got me! Shoot, I don’t even have an oval of track up; shoot, I only have 0 to 15 volts of power from a 100 watt Marx supply available… but do I care? Well a little but I am just going to keep smiling today! They are gorgeous, Jim. I’d like one, but only because of how iconic they are. I have no other reason for justifying getting one.

Jim

Jim,

I have a very nice copy of a painting of a GGI hanging on my office wall. It was made in 1967 . I got it at a NYC museum in Elkhart Indiana; kept it for a year and finally had it framed. I have had a lot of nice comments about it. That unit was a beauty for sure. One thing I found out about it and it made me smile was that they used Askarel filled transformers in them to step the 11,000 volts incoming to a lower voltage to power the drive motors. Askarel has PCB’s and is banned from manufacturer now. The PCB’s allowed for a smaller, in fact maybe the smallest, transformer to be made so even if some place decided to power up some cat with 11,000 volts we don’t have the means to ever get a GG1 running again…
So I’ll enjoy my picture and my model locomotive… as far as justifying either, well call it a quest to hang around the edge of greatness!

You must run…Don’t walk… to your nearest train store and buy lots of track and a large transformer… Do not delay… Save yourself [:D]

And that’s the best way to start your weekend! Congratulations on it.[:D]

Jim,

You’ll be happy with your Williams purchase. They are the best when it comes to conventional locomotives. [tup]
