I am modeling the Gainesville Northwestern, which ran from Gainesville, GA, up to Helen, GA, ending a couple miles further in Robertstown, GA. A branch ran off to … oh, shoot, I can’t remember the name of the town now, but basically a few miles west to a copper mine and small town that no longer exists. It’s not far from Dahlonega, home of the First U.S. Gold Rush. Total length of both lines was probably in the 35-40 mile range. In real life they were both gone by the early 30’s. My line depicts them as they might have been in 1957 had Southern Railway had acquired them. Sounds like there might be something preventing the points from making full contact. Make sure there’s no ballast preventing full travel. Carefully remove any with a small screwdriver or something, be careful not to damage the track in the process. Use your fingers to make sure the points have full travel and free movement. If all that checks out, then check the switch machines for full travel as well. As you found out, they DON’T like glue. This is why modelers and RR’s alike use ballast sparingly around switches/turnouts.
