Finally, I’ve got nothing on my plate for the next three and a half days which will give me a great opportunity to get back into the MR hobby for the first time since last spring. First on the agenda is to get the train room straightened up which I typcially left in a mess last April. Then it’s just a question of what project to tackle first. I have several to choose from. I might still try to get one or two rounds of flog in, weather permitting, but for the most part, I’ll be getting reacquainted with the train room and also catch up on some of the latest new products. It’s amazing how quickly you can get out of touch with what is going on in the hobby in less than six months. One thing that really has me intrigued are the Dreyfuss and Empire State Hudsons being offered by MTH. One of the projects I had in the works was to see if I could retrofit Rivarossi shells of these two locos onto my BLI Hudsons of which I have three. I’ve just about given up on BLI coming through with their Dreyfuss Hudson which they have been promising for years. If I can’t do the retrofit, MTH looks like they might get some business from me. It would be my first MTH purchase.
A little OT, I finally saw a movie tonight on TCM that I have wanted to see for years, Key Largo. Edward G. Robinson, Bogie and Becall. It doesn’t get any better than that. To my surprise, there was a small role in it for Jay Silverheels (Tonto). Life is good.
Welcome to getting back into it. I’m still waiting for the temperature to go down to at least liveable out in my California Basement (garage) so that I can get out there and do some scenery work that I had to put off because of one TERRIFIC hot summer out here. The doggone plaster was drying out before I could put it in place.
So I know the feeling.
BTW: KEY LARGO is so good that IMO it needs a special place in the hallowed halls of Classic Movie Nirvana. You’re right–it DOESN’T get much better than that. Well, maybe Bogie and Baby in their first movie together–TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT. “You know how to whistle, don’t you? Just put your lips together and blow.” WHEW!
I hope you are right but I’ve seen this movie before. When did they first announce this loco as Coming Soon? About three years ago? The fact that it is the only item on the list that doesn’t have a clickable link doesn’t give me a lot of confidence it is even in the works yet. I’ll believe it when I see it and if I don’t see it soon, MTH might have a new customer.
Well I checked one off my list of movies I have missed but want to see and now you’ve given me another one to add to it. But, thanks anyway. I’ll keep an eye out for it.
I have to agree with your tagline, you can’t have too many articulateds. My previous railroad was a freelanced UP so naturally I had a Big Boy and a couple Challengers. So far my current freelanced east coast railroad only has one 2-6-6-2 on the roster but I’m trying to think up reasons to add more. The roundhouse is getting pretty filled up and there’s only room for a few more and the Dreyfuss and Empire State Hudsons are the first priority, Unless I can sucessfully retrofit my BLIs with the Rivarossi shells, any additions to the roster beyond that will probably mean subtracting something else.
