I am considering purchasing a J from trainworld. There is an extraordinary price on it this month. First what is your expierence with ordering from trainworld. Has teh super sale stuff you ordered in stock ? Back ordered? Or offered as a substitute ?
I have two orders in with them, and ordered some passenger cars from them a few months ago. They came quickly, in good order, and I wouldn’t hesitate to order from them again. Note that between trainworld and modeltrainstuff (AKA M.B. Klein), those two do a huge amount of internet sales business. It is their bread and butter, so they aim to be quick, accurate, and reliable.
Are you talking about a Bachmann Spectrum J or BLI’s?
It’s been a while, but I had no problems with my order from Trainworld. Would have no problem ordering again. Matter of fact, have been thinking of placing an order. Just waiting to see how much money I have left after the Springfield Train Show next Saturday.
Those engines are available as cheaply as you find them just 'bout everywhere because they had some issues. They have what I feel is an overly complicated drawbar system between the locomotive and the tender. In the one example that I purchased three years ago, it could not be encouraged to run smoothly at low speeds. When I made it to exceed 30 scale mph, it ran quite well.
I have a feeling, based on reading threads about this one Spectrum locomotives across several forums, that their owners experienced too many problems with them as a production run. Also, there were two runs of them so far, I think, although I could stand to be corrected. I don’t know which of the two was the most problematic.
With that caveat stated, Bachmann has an excellent warranty. Keep your record of purchase, and if you have to ask for relief for some reason, they’ll want proof of purchase. From there, they may offer you one they know runs, or they may repair the one you return to them.
I have heard that some of the really, really low priced products are re-furnished warranty items from the manufacturer. It seems logical to me, especially if they are high volume dealers.
I will keep that in mind if I decide to move forward with teh purchase. In addition I always turn in the warranty cards , saved my neck a few times when I had issues with equipment or as importantly when there was a recall on an item.
