Welcome to Jarrell’s Show Me Something, the thread where a request for a photo is made and anyone that fulfills that request is in line to make the next request. Please restrict photos to models and not prototypes, unless you are showing the exact prototype of the model you are showing off. Enjoy!
20 odd years ago when I decided to return to the hobby one of these was the first car I bought. I brought it home and it sat on the mantle for quite a while on a piece of flex track. Down the road I wondered how many #s of the car Atlas had made and found out it was six. I started my journey to hunt down every number of the issue and was surprised when I found the last one at a train show.
Please show me something that you had to hunt down to get.
Overland only imported 50 each of the Truman or Reagan-era models. On the rare occasions they would come up for sale they would sell out immediately or I would otherwise get outbid. Finally, about ten years ago I ‘tracked’ one down at a fairly reasonable price!
Churchill and Clementine along with Eleanor, FDR are soaking up the scenery on their way to Hyde Park!
Way too much time, energy, and money was spend obtaining this darn thing! I will post some pics of the whole train one day. It got to the point where I had given up the hunt and thought I was going to have to peice and paint something together, now I have a bunch of random observation cars
More than 24. The month of January on MRR’s 2026 calendar has a great shot of a narrow gauge train crossing the desert. Please show me a narrow gauge locomotive alone or hauling cars. Extra points for a desert scene.
Regards, Peter
Ok I’m totally cheating with this one! This custom restored Marx #999 2-4-2 is supposed to represent a State Railways of Thailand meter gauge bamboo and cane burner! Most American railfans would consider meter gauge to be narrow gauge.
There was some sand used for ground cover and the layout was deserted at the time…but we’ll continue with Peter’s original request for narrow gauge in the desert.
Well here it is, but in this case searching for it meant finding it at a price I could afford.
Full disclosure, this isn’t mine but I sure wish this guy’s lawn was!
It took close to ten years waiting for the price to drop due to lack of demand and sets coming on the market due to owner downsizing from $1,100 for the first one I saw to the $325 I DID pay for the complete series. Worth the wait! I’m all set for the Semi-Quincentennial!
Here’s mine to start off: a LEGO model of St Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern 635, which is a real world 1880’s vintage loco from my local railroad museum!
Real world picture for comparison purposes. (I don’t do stickers on my locos, so sadly the letters on the tender were a no-go.) I decided to post this because of another thread about a STLIM&S Mastodon being made by @palallin is making in another scale!
And my wife graciously decided to marry someone who has converted part of his apartment living room into a “train room.” Hopefully this encourages people to not let their living situation be an excuse!
Can’t wait to actually have some memorabilia hanging up again!
