Welcome to Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner in its July 2017 location!
This is a place to gather, a place without an agenda or a topic. It’s free to all, to read, to join in, or just to enjoy some virtual food. Our gracious hosts ask only that we avoid certain hot-button topics like politics and religion that sometimes raise tempers.
You’ll get to know the friendly staff just by listening. It’s a place to share your day, your concerns, your joys and sorrows. Welcome aboard!
This month, the Diner has a new location NOB, that´s north of the border in Canada, celebrating the 150th anniversary! Following FRRYKid´s and Dave´s suggestion, the Diner will be onboard The Rocky Mountaineer trains. Rocky Mountaineer is a Canadian rail-tour company offering Western Canadian vacation packages that operates trains on four rail routes through British Columbia, Alberta, and the US state of Washington.
Enjoy the video!
The diner was renamed in honor of our dear departed dear friend, Jeffrey Wimberly. The RIP track is the place for us to pay our respect to our friends and forum members who are no longer with us.
I’ll have a Large plate of pancakes and top it off we better have some of that canadian maple syrup and blueberries[dinner] oh and a large cup of earl grey tea please.
Thankyou Ulrich
Bear tick of approval from me [Y] [:D]
W**k well it keeping me busy cleaning cars… its a job, I get money for the hobby I’m happy so YAY!
Yoga having a blast learning to become a Yoga teacher is going pretty well, learning a lot about human anatomy, the spiritual side of things and learning lots overall. Yoga practice have blast but has brough up emotions from the past I learning to deal with mine and that’s what meditation is for to heal and let go. By the way does anyone on here do yoga?.
Life The change of diet well not far short vegiterian I can still have lamb and fish, their are a couple of things I miss bacon is one of them ( I wonder if I can get bacon flavoured tofu hmm[^o)] If their is let me know please) along anything from the bakery can’t have anything with wheat in it damn it. There’s a bit of a list of can and can’t haves but I’m still fine tuning it. Overall I’m feeling a lot better for it.
Railroad Front Need to buy more freght cars and get the other qaurtering jig. I’ve got a worthwhile regional train show to go to only a couple of hours drive from my place, with my railroad buddy. A day out full of railroad fun I hope and to catch up with some other railroad buddies.
Hard to believe that we are already half a year into this one! Time passes by much quicker, once you have reached a certain age. At least I feel that way.
Sounds like a splendid idea, but leave out the tea and make it coffee for me, Janie dear!
I have set up a new photo hosting account at Imgur, which is similar to PB, but much faster. I will go through my old picture files and selectively upload some of them to the new site. I won´t update the links in my old posts and threads, though - too much effort!
I just enjoyed a generous slice of the rhubarb cake Petra bought this morning. Yummy!
I prefer home-made pies and cakes, but they are just too muchto eat for the two of us.
It´s really an awful day - just cold and wet. Feels like November and not July! I am battling my depression with watching steam videos on Youtube. Having said that, here is a nice one:
The Hills Are Alive - With The Sound Of Steam!
The “Waldviertel” (Forest Region) is located northwest of Vienna - a sparsely populated, rural region bordering the Czech Republic. Highlight of that region is a network of 50 miles of a 2 1/2 ft. gauge narrow gauge line, which saw regular steam service until 1986! The line has been revamped and turned into a modern day rail carrier, still on narrow tracks. Some of the steam locos used back then have been restored to their full glory and now see service on many a tourist train during the season!
A big congratulations to Canada for its 150th birthday ! ! ! !
Ulrich … Thanks for moving the Diner. Shelley and I rode the Rocky Mountaineer in 2002, and I have many 35 mm photos of the trip which I could scan. We road the train from Vancouver to Calgary. We paid for the premium seats, and it was a fabulous experience.
I have not looked in my Photo Bucket account in several days, and I am hesitating to do that based on all of the talk about it in the MR Forum. I wonder if it is hacked. Since people are getting messages asking for money to use their account, I wonder if it is a form of a ransome virus or whatever.
I’ll wait until I have time to look at alternative photo hosting sites. Meanwhile, no photos from me.
Good morning, all. I’ll have a plate of waffles with maple syrup and of course, a side order of CANADIAN bacon.
During pledge drives, our PBS station will show one of the offerings from the Trains Around North America series and the Rocky Mountaineer was one of those featured in the latest episode. Looked like quite an experience. Haven’t looked into the price but every once in a while, one has to say, “Hey, I’m worth it” and shell out the big bucks.
I’m going to be going the other direction this fall as part of a foliage tour. The highlight will be taking the train from Montreal to Halifax. It’s an overnight train but it’s about a 20 hour trip so there should be plenty to see in the daylight. Tourist railroads on the agenda are as follows:
PB has chaged their terms of service and have blocked “3rd party” hosting( linking your photos to other sites) without having a certain paid account type with them. ($400 a year) So I have given them the heave ho and moved on to imgur.
I remember my graduation 12 years ago and I also wore gray. Our colors were blue and gray. Ulrich you are a proud person, just remember that when you feel down in the dumps.
Isn’t the Rocky Mountaineer the only passenger train now that powers the F40PH?
I think I deleted my PB account. Every time I clicked it, it sent me back top to the top of the page. When I went back today before deleting my profile my picture albums were all blank page and it says I still had pictures in it but it doesn’t show it.
Going to be another warm day here in norther California 103-105F. Pool and airconditioning for most folks. They say at least it’s a dry heat, I say it’s still hot!
Bear - I’m not worried about the Lion’s menu, I don’t have to out run the Lion, I just have to be faster than the rest of you in the Diner.[:D]
YGW - I’m using a BLI SW7 to switch my sawmill complex.
All - I’ve read the “how to post a photo” information but I do not see a insert button like Mr. Otte suggests.
Step 5: Insert your picture. Click the “Insert/edit image” button above the message window. It looks like a picture of a mountain and the sun. Click it and paste the image URL you copied into the “Source” box in the window that comes up. Then click OK. Repeat and add text as necessary. Then post as usual.
I’m wondering if it is because I’m not free to post without moderator approval. This will be my 3rd post and it usually takes a few hours before it will post.
Welcome to the forum and the diner. Don’t know if it’s a newbie thing but what you are looking for is in the red circle,
Got a solid state Samsung hard drive to make my desktop faster. It came with migration software so I could clone the hard disk. The software would not detect the new disk and Samsung support led me to a page that didn’t exist. Found out a lot of people are having the same problem. Currently using another program to clone the drive and it’s taking 3 hours. I won’t even tell you about the holliday traffic jams between home and the computer store in DC.
Watching Dale Jr at Daytona. In the world of entertainment and sports, I guess only bull fighters, the Walendas and race car drivers have to go to perform where their relatives have died. I hope he wins. He has not had a good year and this is his last before he retires.
Ulrich we have rhubarb pie, which around me is also made with strawberries. Hot and humid today. Thunderstorms came through at 4 and made it even more humid.
Flo, the new folks at the dinner, Jan, Bent, the wayward son Ed (If he shows up) and I will a [B] please.
Work [+o(] That pretty much covers that subject! Yea I have had worst days but this one did mot bring a smile to my face.
Photo Dump For the heck I click on my account and the wheel went around, and around and a round. Good riddance!!! As you old timer know I use to love posting photos. Last year or so not so much.
Ulrich Good to see you posting more and coming back out of your shell. Do you happen to like American Steam? Guess it is like me and European Cars. Yea there great cars for what they where bulit for but not what I grew up with. I take 1969 Hemi Dodge Daytona over any Porsche, Benz’s, BMW, Lamborghini or Ferrari! Why? Because I grew up wanting one and understand them!
Trains are running great so it is a pretty good day!
I did not recieve any emails from PhotoBucket, but they are blocking my photos.
I would like to call them a very nasty name.
I just sent them a question. I said I have been using their service for many years, and I asked why they are making a change.
How much good will it do me ?
I have less and less time to mess around with computers, and I do not wish to take the time to move hundreds of photos out of photo bucket. I will not be paying their ransome either.
I dislike IT people who take a working system and screw it up. The phrase “user friendly” is a thing fo the past.
Thank you Henry for showing me what the icons should look like. I have about 4 less icons to choose from than you. I’ll assume it’s due to my status as a new member.
Does anyone know if it is a time period or number of posts before I can respond without approval?
Thank you for accepting my suggestion. Canada has had an interesting history over the years. (Jeopardy had a whole category dedicated to Canada 150 on Friday’s episode, so that had a lot to do with it. And that reminded me about Canada Day. I had forgotten.)
Not much on the hobby front. However, I am studying purchasing a new car that may fit a specific need but I have to ask some friends if it would be plausible.
The weather is starting to heat up. Triple digits for the foreseeable future. Not looking forward to it.
It´s Sunday - time for my weekly “big” breakfast, consisting this time of a stack of pancakes, maple syrup, sausages, a tall glass of OJ and lots of coffee, please.
Another grey and wet day and even a little cooler than yesterday! We are nearing one digit temperature figures (in degrees Celsius) in July! There is no improvemnet forecasted for the next two weeks!
Horror!
Ken - I do like American steam engines and the narrow gauge ones I love, but I simply cannot afford them, both in terms of price and space requirement for a layout to run them on! Over recent years, prices have climbed a lot, while at the same time, the Euro has dropped by 30%, putting the beautiful Blackstone HOn3 creations on a shelf way beyond my reach.
Work on my little layout will be halted for the time being. We need to save up more money to fill our “getaway” fund, as the political situation is deteriorating ever more in this country. Spare me the details, as they don´t belong here - only that much, life has become a challenge to stay afloat!
Unfortunately, the amount we can put away each month is hardly visible. In the end, we will have to start selling whatever holds a certain commercial value. I am afraid that my trains will be the first things to go, followed by the car.
I’ll have a sausage, potato, and egg scramble, black coffee and OJ.
I agree completely. I worked in IT until my retirement and there was a familiar saying. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. When I first began posting photos using PB it was very intuitive. Last year I broke my digital camera and so didn’t post any photos. I recently got a new one and when I went to create links with PB, I found it very confusing. I had to read through the entire thread at the top of this forum to figure out how to do it. Then due to all the ads as well as my slow satellite internet connection, it was taking forever to bring up the pictures. PB will not be missed. I have switched to railimages.com and there was a bit of a learning curve with that but now I’ve got the hang of it and will be posting more photos to WPF and other threads. Adios Photobucket.
Gidday Chloe, as I’ve been busy dealing with my soon to be ex-Photobucket account, I’ve forgotten my manners. So, if herrinchoker comes in please give him a large slug from the bottle of 15 year old single malt I was recently given by a satisfied customer. It will be a lot smoother than his local firewater. [swg] Thanks for those great photos, and though I’ve seen most of those truisms before, a timely reminder doesn’t hurt because they’ve been well proven over the years.
It’s now past my bedtime, currently 40F out, and raining heavily so I’ll wish you all, whichever is appropriate, a good Independence, or Canada Day.
