Jeffrey's Trackside Diner, July 2017 - All are welcome, All Aboard!

Its been a busy week for us. On Tuesday we bought a new car. Didn’t plan on it, it was suppose to be a just looking around kind of thing. I’ve had the same 3 make & model cars since 2007. Really liked everything about them, but found out on my last trip to the dealer for an oil change that the redesigned 2017 that model had been made wider & longer. Enough so that it would no longer fit in my garage. So I thought I would just look around to see what my options might be. Long story short, ran into a good salesman & a nice dealership. The result is a new Buick Encore. Haven’t had it a week, but really like it so far. One problem I would like to get resolved is I easily paired my IPhone, but 2 days later, it dropped off the system & won’t pair now. Inconvenient, but not a real biggie in the overall scheme of things.

Railfanning got off to a bad start yesterday. A thunderstorm opened up just as we got to our spot, & wouldn’t you know it, the 1st train had one of Norfolk Southern’s DC to AC conversion units in the lead. One I hadn’t seen before either, so no picture. Shortly thereafter, the rain stopped & the rest of the day was nice. Overall, we saw 12 trains in 4 hours. ! coke train, 7 intermodal & 4 mixed freights. An intermodal had The “Pennsylvania” heritage unit & the only foreign power was 1 BNSF.

I got my notice from PhotoBucket early in the week, & like Garry, I suspected that they had been hacked. They have got to be kidding, $400.00? This from a site that didn’t even work properly 85% of the time for me. So you can all relax, I won’t be posting anymore photos of my railfanning.

Going out to my nephews for a cookout today. We haven’t seen them for awhile, so it will be nice to catch up with them & all their activities. This will be our 4th of July Celebration, as the wife & I stay home most holidays now. Too old to fight the crowds, long lines & traffic. Hope you all have a great

Hot here, too. I hope to get a bike ride in. The doctor is playing with my blood pressure medications and they seem to be making me very tired.

I tried Photobucket and gave up. These user-hostile sites won’t last long.

Good Sunday morning from the beautiful West Coast.[8D]

I have the best part of a keg of Moosehead beer leftover from the big “150” ceremony. So belly on up boys!

Ulrich, your niece is beautiful, my son walked into the office and went Hubba as he walked by and wanted to know who that was. Does she want to meet a future Prime Minister of Canada?.[(-D]

YGW, My wife bought the Costco size of Fabreeze for all things Hockey related, we’re way ahead on that front.

The old Mazda MPV Hockeymobile had suffered a complete coolant leak and was not worth fixing as the corrosion under the van in the piping to the rear heater was extensive. If we had fixed it, it would have just failed somewhere else. I think living its life out on that island off the coast with all that salt air and salt water probably helped speed things up in that department. We got it so cheap it doesn’t owe us a thing. I had just filled the gas tank and I can’t seem to get a siphon hose down to get the gas out. I can use it on the John Deere. I will give the one year old battery to my neighbour as he needs one for his Dodge Caravan and I think he is struggling financially right now.

Well, we weren’t coming home without at least one car on Saturday, car buying is a lot more time consuming than one thinks, especially if needing one in a hurry. We had decided it was going to be a Subaru Impressa or a Mazda 3 (used). We almost bought a 2016 Ford Escape Titanium but a quick call to the Father-law found that this model had serious engine issues and they stopped making that engine so that was off the table. We came home with a 2016 Mazda 3 full load with 34000KM. Backup camera, navigation and everything else one really doesn’t need. The son will use it for the next two months for movie work as he is all over the place doing that. He goes to Ottawa in September and shortly after that the daughter will get her drivers license and she can take over. The

Silly me. All of this time I thought Jeffrey’s Trackside Diner was a popular model that everyone had on their layout except for me. [dinner]

Brent - he would have to get passed me first, I am her godfather! But he´s right, Solveig is a pretty young woman with a charming character as well. She is very good natured and still somehow a sweet little girl.

It stopped raining late in the afternoon and now the sky has cleared up a little, so we can enjoy a few moments of sunshine before sunset.

[#welcome] to Jeffrey´s Diner, Lone Wolf! Have a glass of your favorite poison on me!

I think the missing icons are because of the browser you are using. Your probation ends after a set number of posts. I think it’s about five but I don’t recall. They just want to make sure you are a real person and are not here to just post spam.

[(-D] I know how you feel Ulrich! I am the same way about my Daughter. Besides she would probably hate being the wife of a Canadian Prime Minister anyway.[(-D][oX)][(-D]

My son speaks english, french and spanish fluently. Just think how many languages their kids would speak.[(-D]

Only one more language to add to that list - German. Solveig is fluent in English as well, but languages are not her thing. She´ll be going to college/university this fall, starting her bachelor´s studies in criminology and psychology.

Between the two of us, I am sure she will finish her studies, but will prefer becoming a loving wife and mother over a career. She is not at all a modern woman, whatever that means.

Actually, I think the two of us should get together and negotiate the terms and conditions [swg]

Ulrich, The kid is taking “Public affairs and policy management” and will be getting a law degree in Constitutional and/or business law. He wants to actually run the country, not just be a temporary figurehead as a politician for a short tenure. He has also considered international criminal law as he thought a career with CSIS (Canada’s spy agency) might be interesting (not as a spy). A very good friend of ours was the senior civil servant in charge of CSIS (Deputy Minister) for years and they have talked extensively about him leaning in that direction. So they are both interested in dealing with the rotten apples of the world.[(-D]

I’ll have my people talk to your people and we can get these negotiations started.[(-D]

Hey diners,

Popped in to say hi.

Today’s weather is 106 beating 104. Monsoon season starts tomorrow with 40% of rain. I’ll see if it’s going to change or not.

I received that the Atlas GP9TT NYC has left and now I’m waiting for the (c&o chessie system) caboose.

LW&SF. … it is good to see you in the Diner. Feel free to continuing posting here.

Brent and Ulrich. … it is good to hear about the young people in your families who apparently have good futures.

Angel. … that is very hot.

Steven. … You did a good job of answering my last question. I hope you don’t mind if I asked another. Has Kalmbach considered limiting how long it retains old threads in the forum. I suspect most views are with threads of maybe less than two weeks old. I doubt many threads over 5 years old are viewed anymore. To save digital storage costs, have you considered removing threads over a certain age?

Brent,

Funny that you write this! Last time I talked to her I told her instead of aiming at dealing with the rotten apples in this country, she should learn how to grow good apples, make the best apple sauce of the world and raise 6 kids - that would be a more “fruitful” life!

I could “hear” her blush over the phone!

2.40am here and I can´t get the sleep I need - that sucks!

Afternoon Folks!

Flo, what free [B] from Brent? Never had Moose Head, now Stag [+o(] I have had! Never again I will add!

Work Was Strange Today. It was dead, not a person in till 3:20 PM. Tina and Mike where very much stand offish and wanted to be left a lone. Let them roam the store for a few minutes then started asking them questions from about 25 feet away from them. Got there intrest and they came closer and started talking with me. I go there intrest and seemed some what surprised at my knowledge about sleep and mattress!

While it took all most a hour I did get the bussiness. Had 2 more customers, 1 while I was with Mike and Tina. and lost them. Could not find out from them what they where really looking for. Was it price or comfort level?

Another lady came in with about 40 minutes from closing. Told me No, she be back Monday after she talks with her husband. Finally I got the deal after being told No 3 times.

Got her done and out the door about 10 mintues from closing but I got out of the Fire Trap / Store on time! [:D]

Ulrich Was not asking about what you model but the Video Clips you post. Far as gauge, that I understand.

BBQ is done [dinner] and my wife is NUTS! [^o)]

Later, Ken

Sorry, Ken, I must have misread your remark!

One of my problems is that I have a keen interest in anything that moves on rails, which does not help me focus properly. Fortunately, my budget is so tight, I can´t afford to feed all the different aspects.

Good Evening,

A fairly nice day with a temp of about 70F. We are supposed to get a week of sun and around 80F all week. Sure hope so as this summer has been quite cool so far.

Nice to be in the Rockies. I went on the train ( CN) from Winnipeg to Vancouver and return in 1960. I was 12 at the time so it was high adventure for me. I would love to do it again but I don’t think my wife is very keen.

Today we barbequed the salmon that we were supposed to do yesterday for Canada Day. It was just too cool and wet so we postponed. The salmon turned out great except that I ate too much.

I’ve been running trains sporodically, not more than 15 minutes at a time but at least some wheels are turning.

It never ceases to amaze me the info you can get on the internet. I had always thought the '58 Meteor my Dad owned had the 352 ci. engine but I have now found out that Ford never offered that engine in Meteors until 1960. Dad’s car had the 361 c.i. engine that was used in the Edsel. It was slightly more powerful than the 352. He sold that car 6 months before I turned 16 and bought a new Galaxie 500 that had a detuned 352. What a slug it was compared to that Meteor. Now I bet that is info you have been waiting all day to hear.

Tom, that new car sounds nice.

Well it is soon time for our Sunday night TV marathon of shows on PBS.

CN Charlie

Chamomile tea, please.

***Brent and Ulrich, I’ll second what Garry said. The young folk in your respective families are off to a good start. That said, Ulrich, growing apples isn’t so easy, at least not here in north Georgia. Every year I am battling with Japanese Beetles, crows, and squirrels. I will have zero peaches, nectarines, and other fruit this year because of a late frost. [sigh] But I will never give up trying, even if my average apple ends up costing me $50.00 each to produce.[(-D]

Nothing to report on model train-wise. Occasionally catch some nice CSX trains running through the local town of Fairmount. I always enjoy seeing them and usually pull over to watch them pass by.

That’s it from the ol’ farm. Hope everyone is doing well.

Cheers! [C):-)] Rob

Judy and I Went to Taylor falls about a month ago. Memorial Day weekend during the time I had a thread modeling waterfalls.

Go figure there was no waterfalls at Taylor Falls.

A year earlier we went to Thunder Bay Canada. Yup you got it there was no bay.

I never understood why cities or towns falsely name themselves misleading you to something that’s not there.

At any rate I have never been on the River at Taylor Falls. It was very beautiful I would like to share some pictures with ya all.

Happy 4th. Take care.

Right you are Lone Wolf, I switched browsers and there the icons were. Thanks for helping me out. Add helpful to the reasons I’m liking this forum.

Randy

Good Morning!

I finally went back to sleep at 3.45am this morning and just got up, woken by a ray of sunlight. Yep, the sun´s out this morning, but should I believe the weather guessers, only until around noon, as there is more of the wet&windy stuff rolling in from the North Sea.

Rob,

the area north of us, just along the Elbe River, is the biggest fruit growing region in Germany, mainly apples and pears - similar to Washington´´s Yakima Valley. Is a tough job to grow apples and market them at a profit, but apparently the people there did quite well in the past, feeding Hamburg with fresh apples. Just look at their proud farm houses!

.jpg)

Each year, there is a big apple blossom festival with hundreds of thousand folks swamping the place! Petra and I went there once a long time ago, but returned home after failing to find a place to park the car!

Have a great day!

Henry:

My wife makes a mean strawberry rhubarb pie. She also makes a rhubarb custard pie which is devine.

Unfortunately we got rid of our rhubarb patch many years ago so we haven’t had much since then. Now however, we have a reliable supply from a source that we never, ever imagined - our son! The house he bought last year came with a rhubarb patch, and he is lovingly tending to the crop (so Dianne will make pies for him of course). He has even planted tomatoes and jalapeno peppers! We never imagined him as a gardener.
