Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner - April 2015

Evening all. Just stopping in for a few seconds.

Long day, but nothing bad happened at work. So I ordered an airbrush starter pack from micro mark on Wednesday. It shipped the same day and WS supposed to be here today. It never showed up. The FedEx driver pulled up right in front of my house, (my house number is very visible), and wrote in the delivery status “unable to find street/address”, while in front of my house. Yeah…

Anyway, called FedEx to fix it-surpised how nice customer service was. The one who received my call was extremely nice, easy to understand, and prompt about it. The call was maybe 5 minutes, and solved to deliver tomorrow. After dealing with Comcast customer " service", it was refreshing to talk to a real human being who cared. Well done FedEx.

Anyway, work session at the model railroad club calls tonight and work tomorrow.

Evening guys.

A nice night out. Just playing a little strat o matic baseball while watching the ball game. I got my stuff from the hobby shop. Its some scenery items and a couple freight car kits which I will build tomorrow. I work at 5am tomorrow so tomorrow night will be spnet building the kits. Just looking at the backlog of weathering I have to get on. At the moment its 87 cars that need to be weathered. I take my time doing it so it can take a couple weeks to get one done.

Well back to the ballgame, talk to you fellas tommorrow some time

Evening Diners,

My mom lefted for Virginia today to visit daughter Jackie. But their was a small problem with the car rental place that my sister did. She paid for the car but couldn’t drive it. Apparently she paid with a debt not a credit card.

My dad’s going up to Phoenix tomorrow for work. So grocery shopping will probably be done on Sunday.

Don’t call the house when you’re pick up cigarettes when the real reason is that you going to the casino. It’s a waste of a phone call when you know where he’s going to be at. That payday was yesterday and you already went there two days ago. And again I don’t get paid.

Train News: I bought/ordered an Atlas NYC early bird double door boxcar two weeks ago on eBay. Don’t worry it has a tracking system on it. My problem is that it left the facility a 9 days ago and don’t know where it’s at. All it reads is left Chicago and traveled 20 miles to Forest Park and left again early next morning.

I talked about it with my brother who works at the post office. He said, “I can’t help you. It probably got misplaced or traveling somewhere else depending on how much shipping he put on the box.”

I would like to call them and tell him to find it by scanning every box! I don’t feel like buying another boxcar. Next month I’m going to get a diesel and two boxcars (NYC) if there still available. 1957 is not done yet, but I do have two flatcars.

I found something interesting today. I compared my NYC 50’ flatcar with a modern 50’ CR boxcar and their two different lengths. Both models are from Atlas. The boxcar had an extra ruler meter.

Now, be nice, it’s MOH’s Birthin’ day today! I won’t say what I got for MOH as far as presents…its a secret!

Mornin’ folks!

Zoe, I’ll have a bowl of organic Heritage Flakes Cereal and a pot of Marrakesh Express Coffee for my R&GV RR mug please.

Sun is out nice and bright this morning here in the Finger Lakes. Current temperature is 61°F with a high of 70° later this afternoon. Should be another good day for making electricity… I have a few errands to run very soon, and then I shall be cleaning house and working on the next project needed for the Keuka Creek area on the layout.

Hippo Birdie to those celebrating birthdays today!

Catch you all later!

The coffee pot just announced that my morning beverage is ready. Hazelnut Creme, in honor of the weekend. (Actually, it’s just in honor of replenishing my supply yesterday at the grocery store.)

That seem to happen to me every time the shipper uses 2-day express mail from USPS. It takes a week. I actually contacted the post office about one that dropped off the postal radar just like yours did. The package eventually arrived, and then, maybe a week after that, I got a response to my inquiry.

I had one train order that was shipped by UPS, but they used USPS for the final delivery. So there’s my package (according to UPS tracking, which is better) at the same distribution facility as always, but instead of putting it on the truck and delivering it, they put it on the same truck, drive right by my house, and bring it to the post office, who then delivers it a day later. Ah, progress. Sherman, set the Wayback Machine for the Transition Era, please, before we had so much of this progress.

It’s a beautiful sunshiny day. Bike ride for sure.

Good Morning all!

Thought I would stop by and have a cup…

Anyway, while drinking my coffee this morning I started reminiscing about Saturdays of years pass and going to the LHS to look over the new releases and talk to the group of the usual suspects that found their way there every Saturday morning. After a hour or two of train and model chit chat I would head to my favorite trackside spot to railfan.

I don’t know of a better way to relax after a week of work.Of course that was after I lost my railroad job and I got my life back.

Have a good day everybody and thanks for listening.

Good Evening!

Just a short visit, as I am not a good company today.

My health issues keep on worrying me. Add to that, that to this date two years ago my Dad died, and you will understand why I am a miserable sod today. I hope I will be excused.

Ulrich,

If it will make You feel any better…My Dad died at 61yrs. old…I have very similar health issue’s He had and I will be 73 yrs. old this year. I thought about that too when I was younger. Quite possible that I had them taken care of/controlled sooner than He had done.

Spend more time taking care of today…instead of worrying about tomorrow…is My belief.

Take Care! Cheer up! [:D]

Frank

Today I got out on my bicycle for the first time this year. I did 15 miles at a good clip and felt pretty good. Yeah, the hills still hurt, but I felt like I could go forever on the flats.

My own Dad died at 56. Like the rest of his large family, the smokers never reached 70 while the others got close to 90. The lesson was not lost on me. With retirement, I’ve been able to pick up my exercise program. Over the last two weeks I’ve had 5 days of skiing, 4 nights of hockey and now 15 miles on the bike. I can honestly say that I’m feeling younger ever day.

OK, got the truck bolsters drilled and tapped for 2-56 screws, and I put a coat of gray primer on the tank for the MOW water car. I’ve soaped the frame to get rid of the years of dust. Now, I’m thinking I should add some brake lines, since it’s a tanker and that sort of thing is visible. It’s going to need some couplers and draft gear boxes, too, but I’ll have to mount the trucks and wheels first to get the level right. I took a first cut at making the decals, too, with a “stencil” font. I printed them on regular paper to see how the size fits before going with the decal paper.

Ulrich: Doldrums or not, it is good to see you in the diner today.

Good Satuday afternoon, Diners! 66f and gorgeous sunshine. Yesterday was even better! Took the bike out with some buddies, first ride of the year. Alas, rain, snow and colder next 2 days. I hope they are wrong.

Had some guys over for an ops session couple weeks ago. Everything went well! Ran some open turnouts, but that was it! Not bad for 4 guests that are NOT model RR’s.

Here’s a run -by for Garry:

Thanks, Ray. Don’t know why it didn’t work. Did the same as I’ve always done. Oh, well.

Terry in NW Wisconsin

Good evening.

Terry … I watched the video. It looks great !

Todd … In case you are looking in. It’s time for the Toddland report. … Also, you may recall we talked about the bait shop pizza here. The place has been closed for several months, and the property is owned by the highway department. Bulldozers are pnly about a 1/2 mile up the road and getting closer. Soon it will be history.

Mr. B … Speaking of smoking, when I was a kid my “friends” urged me to smoke as they did. I took one puff, and that was all for me. The flavor was awful. I did not understand why anyone would like such a terrible flavor in their mouth. I never tried it again. …

Happy Model Railroading, everybody.

Evening Diners,

Don’t worry smoking isn’t for everybody Garry and I don’t do it neither. Hey Terry I saw the video and it was very good. I forgot to wish Happy Birthday to Frank yesterday. Everyone else who’s having MOH Ulrich, Galaxy, JohnBoy, and everyone else who needs help.

It’s been a boring day today. I caught up watching Hell’s Kitchen and Season 5 of Royal Pains today.

I’ll call the post office on Monday since I can’t call them tomorrow, it’s their day off.
