Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner is a meeting place for all who wish to join. We talk on-topic, but also off-topic here, but always within the framework of the forum policy. Talk about your ongoing or future model railroading projects, show us your latest acquisitions or simply share your day. If you need to let off some steam, you can do it here, but beware - Cousin Vinnie, the proprietor, is keeping a close watch on the language and is unforgiving when it comes to violations of the house rule.
The finest foods and beverages are being served here by the staff - that´s the twins Chloe and Zoe, and Janie and Flo. There is a new menu, which now includes Chinese dishes (for you, Todd!) and JSTL - that´s Jeffrey´s special Tabasco lemonade.
This is not a very good time of year for me with all of the friends and family that are gone from this Earth [:'(]
It`s been even worse this holiday season with the loss of Sammie…this is a pic that my mom took the first day we started to move into the new house…mom put her on my bed so she could rest and not get in the way …a lot of times Sammie would have a look on her face as if she were smirking at you…
Not sure if Im going to bother to stay up for the new year crap.....its just another day to me anymore.
Been putzing around since Thanksgiving weekend with building a new modelbench…just realized that I have not done anything with model building since the last week of July when I started to pack up all the stuff.
Well, well, well… I was busy typing and tyhey moved the diner on me! [color=red]Ulrich[/color], thanks for making the move for us, and your rememberance of Jeffrey Scott “Running Bear” Wimberly. I think he is pleased! I do miss him…[sigh]
Evenin’ folks!
Nothing for me right now Janie. I’m just about out the door to go to my son’s house for New Years Eve. Supper will be Horses Dovers and snacks washed down with a glass of Finger Lakes Wine… At Midnight I will imbibe in about two fingers worth of bubbly and then head home. No, no I will not be close to being over the line to drive! Those days have been over for a few decades. It will amount to one small glass of wine and then a taste of the bubbly stuff at midnight.
Got quite a bit of stuff done today. Did the rest of the wash, cleared off the inch of white stuff on the panels that had accumulated overnight. The sun was out and the rest cleared off very quickly. Then got some year end finances done, and put a switch stand on the layout behind the fill with the bridge. The Stand was assembled last night and got painted and installed today.
Solar panels did their thing well today and I ended the year 4.7 kWh better than last year! Not a WOW! moment, but I am at least seeing some consistancy in output over time. It also means that I saved close to $550 on electric this year which after all incentives puts the payback period for the Solar Panels and equipment a couple months more than 13 years total. Right on schedule from what was estimated when I purchased the system. I am considering adding a few more panels to the system.

Just a selfish moment here for me… I wanted to be in on the new Diner in the single digits of posting, and also to welcome those who come after to "Jeffrey’s Trackside Diner. Also to Toast it’s namesake with a glass of JSTL, (if I can get it down–for two reasons). Jeffrey, you will always be in our thoughts as we enter the Diner and you will always cross our minds when discussing a point as to what would Jeff have to say about this. You will always be missed…
I was the Guy who gave him the handle of “The Spray Can Rembrandt” many years ago, it seems.
Thank you Ulrich for doing such a fine job of seeing the re-furbishing and moving of the Diner. BTW where are we for the month of January ???

So sad to hear of Jeffrey’s passing! I was unaware until this moment. He always treated my well and for that I am thanksful and glad that he was my friend!
Ulrich … Thanks for starting the first thread for Jeff’s Trackside Diner.
Jeff was a friend to everbody in the MR Forum and the Diner in particular.
We can fondly remember Jeff’s positive attitude and his sense of humor.
YGW … Thanks for commenting in one of final posts in December Diner, but to clear it up. Our youngest two adult children were born on December 31st two years apart. Not one year apart.
A quiet evening for my wife and I, just likely watch a little telie and then have a few snacks. We used to go out for lavish dinners that started about 10 p.m. but I just don’t have the constitution or desire to do that anymore.
Jerry, nice to see you in here. I can relate with the DPM hotel as I put one of those together last winter. It took me a couple of weeks to get all the window frames painted.
Hey Flo, please fetch a big cup of coffee with boocoo cream. This is my first post on the diner, not that it matters. I never met Mr. Wembley, but what little I knew of him it would seem fitting that the diner be renamed after him. Now older and wiser, I don’t go in much for the celebration do N ew Years, but I hope everyone will be safe and sound.
First visit to the diner for me! I hear this place is like cheers, so I thought I’d swing in for a few.
Well, tonight I’m hard at work here in Kansas City, but hope to be home about an hour before the ball drops on our year. Was thinking that I’d throw the coverage up on the TV and chip away at my layout. Its been about 14 months so far since I started my 15x12 and I’m slowly getting things done. I’m at about the halfway point in the track process which has been a lot of fun.
I’m not much for going out on the town drinking (and I am on call) but for those of you who do, be safe and have fun!!! Happy New Year to all.
Well well well… Hello Railfans one and all! Let me first make the compliment on the new decor - thanks to our talented friend Ulrich. Well done, tasteful, and well said. I like it!
Flo? I spose the drink of the evening is champagne. There are many things we should raise our glasses too. To wit:
Jeffrey Wimberly, the new namesake of the diner. I raise my glass and toast his friendship, gentility, service, railfanmanship, and honor his lasting memory.
To those among us, friends, family, loved ones who share and make part of, our daily lives.
To the brotherhood of railfans, for which without this forum, we would all be strangers. I am thankful for such a place as “Jeffrey’s Trackside Diner”, and the folks who patronize it.
To the Greatest Hobby in the World. For which has given me decades of enjoyment, and a passion to live for.
To the new year (still 4hrs away for me). Heres wishing its a dog gone sight better than the last.
To those in poor health. For your struggles in life which seem harder as of late. May you all enjoy one more year amongst us in good health.
To the landlords who provide us this space to reverent on topics good and bad. Heres to another year of continued success in bringing the hobby to the world.

Someone suggested I “open” the dinner again, once it reaches the East Coast of USA.Ulrich has a 6 hour advantage on us at being on that side of the pond…he experiences 2015 long before we do, but long after Australia and NZ and other parts of the world.
I will certainly post a NY’ers NY’s greeting, though it seems it is well open already! I am not the only one on this coast!
It’s been awhile since I’ve been here. I am so pleased to see the diner renamed in honor of Jeff Wimberly. A very fitting dedication.
Last week was the first I heard of his passing and was quite saddened. What hit me more than anything was knowing he was just slightly more than a year older than me. I never met him, but wish that I could have. He seemed like someone who I would have enjoyed an afternoon of train ‘pow wow’ with, then just go and run trains. My impression was that, not only was he very knowledgable and positive, but also someone with a somewhat dry type of humor. I imagine him sitting at the computer keyboard writing a thread response with a devious grin. Anyway…that’s merely my impression. From my side of things…he will be missed.
This night is a quiet, home based holiday as it’s been for a good number of years. A little light indulgence at home with the dog and cat poking around, I’ll watch movies and tinker on the layout. Living here in the northern Nevada casino land puts all sorts of irresponsible…crazies out on the road. On a night like tonight, going out on the highway is much like playing Russian roulette with a loaded automatic instead of 1 round in a six shot revolver. (Strange but appropriate metaphor)
For me New Year is just another year and a reminder of I’ll be another year older.
So to those into the New Year thing…Happy New Year.
I’m not normally a participant here. Doc says stay out of such places. I do want to say I think it’s quite fitting to rename it after Jeffrey and a suitable honor to his memory.[C=:-)]
Good Evening, Chloe - and Zoe too (maybe expecting a crowd tonight)? Well, I will have hot chocolate (with those little marshmallows, please) in a L&A mug, in honor of Jeffrey. Thank you, and a toast to Jeffrey (and others who may have left us this year) and to the New Year ahead of us (or some in other parts of the world who have started on us already).
May we recall our friends (here, gone now, or still to meet in the years ahead), and celebrate the hobby that brings us together (as Doug said much better than I did).
