Thanks so much Ulrich, I really enjoyed that, it seemed almost like a small holiday itself.
Can you now tell me about what looks like a steering wheel in the cab… Am I right thinking it has to do with the braking ? and I never heard them blow a horn or a whistle, so whats with that ?
Johnboy out…Sure glad you are back, didn’t seem the same without you. My regards to Petra.
Thank goodness I don´t have to drive to work today (or any day) - it´s so foggy you cannot see your own hand held right in front of your eyes! I wonder where all that moisture comes from - it has been quite dry the last week. OTOH, we never had such a beautiful November 1st like yesterday was in decades!
No plans for the day other then the usual beginning of the month banking issues, but that will have to wait until the fog clears. I don´t do banking via the Internet. I still the risk of having my account corrupted is too high and for the few things I have to actually do is going to the bank once or twice a month not a big thing.
Johnboy - the big wheel you saw in the cab of that railcar was not a brake wheel, but the rheostat controlling the speed. The brake is the handle close to the window on the right. In Switzerland, trains whistle only when approaching unprotected grade crossings and there are hardly any along that line.
Our friend Galaxy did not come into the diner yesterday - I hope things are OK with him!
Todd I had a feeling you understand the battle I am going through. I wish I could afford the Electroinc Cigarettes. Guess I should check on the cost again.
Ulrich Great to see you back at the dinner. Glad you stop smoking and hope it sticks. May as you to help with a new layout. The old one needs to come down so I can get the Road Runner in side.
Yard Wars With the extra morning daylight I was able to work on it some more yesterday for a hour and a half. Finaly can see the pool slide again.
YGW Will you be home at 4:00 PM? All I have is your home number.
Brunhilda, I’ll have a cup of Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.
Ulrich: It is so great to have you back. I hope everything is OK for you.
YGW: Got your e-mail. Will print out and review. Hopefully, I’ll have an idea or two for you. When did you want this project implemented?
This last weekend, MOH and I went to a wedding at a place a few miles west of Alton, IL. The drive along the Mississippi River right along there is just gorgeous. This is just a bit up stream from where Lewis and Clark launched their expedition.
I was gonna get in here for breakfast this morning, and kept finding things I needed to get done before I stopped by…
Janie, just a decaf for me right now. Thanks…
Been a great day here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS today. High of 60°F with nice bright sunshine all day. Tonight it will get down to 43°F they say. I chopped down and bagged all the asperagus stalks, weeds, Russian Sage, and Oregano in the old raised bed right by the house today. The Blacktop company guy called early this morning to tell me they couldn’t do it tomorrow and rescheduled for next Monday… I’ve been batting 1000 all summer with small jobs! The plumber was supposed to be here over 3 months ago, and the painter promised me he would get to the porch concrete and ceiling before now. I left an email for another company to get in touch with me about the plumbing. It would be nice if I could get it done before the end of the week so the paver doesn’t have to get water down cellar from my washing machine hook up…[:(!]
I also got more rivets installed on the bridge… I can only work at it for a half hour at at time before my nerves are completely shot… I’m taking a break from it right now as a matter of fact. Been working on the NMRA Fall Meet in Hammondsport a few weeks from now. Waiting to here back from the editor to see if he can get a newsletter done this week…
Frank, That is great, All that for our Furry Monk.
Br. Elias, Are we all invited to your home coming ?
All the rest of the Gang here, If you didn’t get a chance yet, be sure to check out my Tribute to Andy in his death notice post. It is a true story I found and I thought a great story because of Andy’s love for the ATSF and also because of his work on the Washita & Santa Fe Railroad project of MR. several years back. I think you might enjoy it.
Nearly 10 hours since Johnboys post and no one has yet shown up?
Good Afternoon!
Janie, I´ll be staying here at the RC to wait and see who will drop by today! Yes, coffee is just fine, but add a slice of that apple crumble pie Vinnie just made. Top it with vanilla ice cream and a generous table spoon full of rum raisins, please.
While waiting for an order of switches (the SPDT and DPDT kind, not turnouts) to arrive from China, so I can continue on the wiring, I doodled with a new scenery idea, being more in line with the prototype location at Stalden-Neubrück. This location is actually not on the Rhaetian Railway, but on the Matterhorn Gotthardbahn on the final leg of the Glacier Express route to Zermatt. You won´t find any of the motive power I have on that line - a vital gadget is missing on the locos, the cog wheel. Had I known this earlier, I would have gone for locos of that railway. Well, maybe one fine day - if I have a chance to save up some money I don´t spend for coffin nails … (no offense meant, Ken).
So here is the new idea:
The prototype has a road right behind the little chapel - it´s the main road leading up the valley to Zermatt.
Speaking of waiting for a delivery from China - I have ordered two packs of switches, each containing 10 switches of either type, for a price which is below the shipping charges occuring for a delivery from a German source. I just don´t understand how that can be!
LION - got any news on the release date? I bet the horsepiddle is running out of wildebeest biltong by now.
We’re busy house cleaning because out-of-town guets are arriving tomorrow night. It is Reggie and his wife. Reggie is a guy I grew up with in Illionis. We’ve been best friends for our entire lives. He is also a train nut. I named Reggie’s Junk Yard on my layout after him because he has accumulated vast amounts of stuff in his lifetime. They live in the country in northern Illinois, and he has huge out buildings just to store his stuff. Included is lots and lots of trains.
Zoe, I’ll have a bowl of Vanilla Almond Granola and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee to start the day…
Sun is busy shining outside here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS. Not a cloud to be seen out there. I will transplant a couple small plants from the area that will get paved over (hopefully) next Monday. That is something I have been going to do all Summer and never got to it. Actaully they will do better now that they are basically dorment for the season. Gives them more time to adjust and recover. Also plan to con tinue riveting the bridge… Oh, and I shall go over to one of the schools here in Geneva and cast my vote as is my right and responsibility!
Ulrich, love the design and so good to have you back aboard my friend! Look forward to seeing it copmplete and trains running…
Best get myself moving… Have already dealt with a pile of emails this morning. many about the upcoming Fall Meet for the Division.
just a beautiful day out today, 20c and too think there could be son right around the corner. I was off work for the last couple days but go back tomorrow. Just haven’t been in the train mood yet, usually I get the bug in the fall but so far nothing yet. I have been playing a lot of my table top sports games lately and have my game table set up in the train room. I received my latest mr in the mail today. Was a nice write up by Neil about andys passing. I’m going to also miss Jim hedigers contributions but the new column that Steve othe is doing sounds like it will be good too.
Thanks CN, Charlie and Garry, I don’t know how you remembered but that was a very nice gesture.
We celebrated a little Sunday evening with my Son and Grandson and DIL. They had a lovely supper that my Wife made and I watched them eat it. I also blended some of it so that it would go down my tube. So I didn’t go without. Ha Ha.
Actually today is my big event. I woke up this morning to being 75 years old. Although I don’t think it, sometimes I feel it. But all in all, I consider myself very fortunate to have lived through 3/4 of a century. I have had many friends and co-workers that never made it this far. And other than this darn Cancer that was in my throat, I have been very healthy. My Father suffered with heart aliments from 51 to his passing at 72. My Grandfathers only made it as far as ( one at 48 and one at 52). I hope I take after the women on my side as they lived into their 90s. But I only want to with decent health.
Been looking on line today for some grade crossing signal drivers and some block detection equipment. Can’t make up my mind as to how to go on this. Any suggestions ?
We are supposed to have 2 to 4 inches of snow by morning, I’m hoping the weather guessers are wrong again but usually they only are when predicting good weather. I do have everything done around here. Made the last rake of the leaves yesterday, put the little car away for the winter, got the winter tires on the Wife’s HHR and on my truck. Got the timer for the block heater for the truck hooked up as only the HHR fits in the garage.
Going to do some more work on the retaining wall that I mentioned earlier, things happened and I didn’t get back to it like I thought I would. I hope this area starts to look a little better by Christmas. But, then I have a Thomas the Train set up to get ready for my Grandson for that day as well, and I am still working part time about 25 hours a week.
