Jeffreys Track-side Diner - April 2020, this time in the town of Golden, British Columbia!

Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a [B] please Ed a Crown Royal and Dirk will take a dog treat.

Ed, no Goat’s! [:(!] Well, I am never come to visit now!

Just kidding Ed. (hum, I think there is a pun in there) If you are not afraid of catching the virus from me, I am free the month of May for now. [swg]

Ate way to much KFC last night and for some reason I felt like doing stuff today? Got the rear grass cut and the ankel did well. I even did some honey do’s done! She will just find more, so I am still screwed.

Got some Ken Do’s done. Bought 10 more solar garden lights from Aldi’s for $2.49 each. Last year they where $1.38 each but they look nices and all of the ones I bougt last year still work! Got 5 of them installed.

Train Front. I had not been running the Mighty PRR GG1 beacuse one of the pullman heavy weight trucks was screaming it head off! Found the offender and got it olied up!

Over all a good day, so later Ken and Dirk says “sit on the pourch Daddy Woof, Woof?”

I tried Karo syrup on pancakes once as a kid when I couldn’t find any maple syrup. No bueno! [+o(]

Good Evening,

Dave, look for Rogers Golden Syrup. It is made in B. C. Our local Safeway has Lyles sometimes. It is imported from the U. K.

Got the gassed up today. First time in at least a month . Paid 83cents a litre for 91 octane. Got the car washed too.

CN Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for the tip. We have a jug of clear corn syrup in the pantry but we haven’t used it for a while. What we do use (sparingly) is honey, and we have a source who is close to the family. One of our son Cole’s friends is an apiarist and she makes superb honey!

We also use maple syrup regularly, often as a glaze for pork or salmon. At one point last year we had three large jugs on hand thanks our own purchases and people who gave them to us as gifts. We seem to have managed to use almost all of it![dinner]

Dave

Ma (and wife) use it for making different confections/candies during the holidays, and barbecue recipes also call for it. It’s also used in a lot of Asian dishes.

For using on pancakes, etc., we use nothing but pure maple syrup, givin to us by many friends we have that do that sorta thing.

Mike.

PS. Forgot to “quote”. Talkin’ about Karo corn syrup.

Rogers or Lyles Golden is cane not corn syrup. Different taste.

CN Charlie

All this talk of syrups has given me an idea for a really unhealthy tasting party. It would be neat to gather all the different syrups together and sample each one to see what the differences are! Talk about a sugar high!![dinner][swg][(-D][(-D]

Good Monday Morning, last one in April. Still feels like February where I am, though. Brrrr.

Still enjoying the great scenery of British Columbia [;)]

Perfect! I have lots of firewood to split and stack, Ken! [:-^]

I hope everyone is doing well.

Cheers, Ed

Nice picture Ed ! It enlarges to a great view. Those CN Dash 8-40cm’s (“Barns”)are on the auction block, as the fleet of Gevo’s arrives.

You still see one occasionly, on local manifest trains. They are looking pretty ragged.

In your picture, they look like new! Most were built in 89-90.

Mike.

Good morning

A beautiful sunny day In Minnesota today and the birds are singing. If I was any better, there would have to be two of me[(-D]

Yesterday evening and throughout the night we got a decent amount of rain and I’m really glad. My allergies have been off the charts this year, hopefully this rain will bring it down.

They are lifting the restaurant and business closures with restrictions this morning. It will be interesting to see how this goes. I think most people are hoarding their money due to all the uncertainties.

I don’t know how the golden syrup thing has slipped by me all these years, never heard of it, never had it. I’ll have to pick up a small one but I would be surprised if I like it better.

Make it a great day y’all[swg]

TF

Good morning …

I’ll have coffee and a stack of pancakes with real maple syrup, please. (Speaking of syrups, real maple is the best.)

We are still hunkered down here. I am working on a passenger station for the layout. It will be on curved track, and so I need a curved platform for it.

I hope everybody has a good Monday !

Good Evening!

Petra and I start to show strong symptoms of cabin fever. Were are not in a fighting mood, just feeling somewhat stressed, depressed and indecisive, altthough some of the restrictions have been lifted. We are just glad to have each other, for people living all by themselves this time must be dreadful!

I hope this madness ends soon!

One thing about living rural, we can go out and walk through the forest for hours with the dogs without seeing another soul.

Now that gas is cheap - Album on Imgur

Only real maple syrup for me. We try to buy the local stuff.

But, it’s an occasional guilty pleasure now, with diabetes. I shouldn’t have it at all. I’m glad I was able to have it when I was younger, because my daughter developed a taste for really delicious pancakes she made herself.

Huh? My car will get about a decade to the gallon… LOL [(-D] Actually if I own it for a decade it will have used, uh… 0 gallons! [:P]

Another typical early Spring day here in the Finger Lakes region… Meaning it is 40°F and sprinkles. I have run the circuit in my neighborhood twice so far. Between times (i am in the house warming up and working on the next issue of the Lakeshores Division NMRA Corona Extra newsletter… Have it almost finished which is good as we want to publish by late tommorrow evening. It will be dated for Wednesday so I should be able to make it. Just looking for a filler for 1/3rd page, get it checked by the Superintendent and the webmaster, make any changes desired and then we publish…

Officially retired. Well I’ll still probably take little projects, but I can pick and choose now![:D]

Ray, congrats on the Tesla!! But, aren’t you still using a little dinosaur dung or coal to charge the beast?

Garry, Hope all is well with you and yours! SWMBO wants to take the Mountaineer trip this year!! Thank you for the great pics! Credit to you for the easy convincing!!

Cowboy Rob!!! Great to see you back in the Diner!!

Ulrich, wishing you and Petra better luck!! Hope it all works out.

SteveO, Thanks for the sheriffin’!!

Those I forgot, Hope all is great!!!

Terry

Terry you won’t be sorry you took the trip. Their website doesn’t say anything about coronavirus, but I’ll be they will be scrambling for passengers. The guy seated behind us coughed the whole trip but we did not get sick.

This was part of the bus ride, before getting on the train.

That is beautiful!!

Its a toss-up between that and the Empire Builder to Oregon/california to see kids.

Choices, choices!!

Terry

Nope! I have 18 solar panels on my roof and the rest of the electric I buy is put on the grid by a 100% green ESCO, 99% Wind and 1% solar… Basically all my millage except on a long trip is from the electric charging station here at my house.

I today ran (yep, that is like only ran) 3 times around the neighborhood both uphill and downhill, for my 5 miles. For whatever reason I am very tired tonight… Not sleeping as good as I like, I guess.

Take care and stay safe!

Good Evening All,

Just passing through. I’ll have one of those beers please. Just one.

Finished up the good enough fubie backround building and placed it. Now I have to figure out what to do with the space in front of it. I have some previously built stuff like the gravel co. etc from Walthers but I also wanted to try to represent Sperry Rail (a Danbury Company up to last year). We shall see. Here is the building anyway.

Garry I used a Walthers kit for my curved platform. I did leave off the platform part to better suit what I wanted but I cut the roof parts in half then angle cut the ends to suit the radius (Three foot radius +/- a bit. final sanded and glued it all up.

I have since fixed the stone edging to fit better but the platform included the station foundation and the sidewalk surrounding it. I still need to take some of the shine off the shingles but I’ll get there.

Time to sign off. Tomorrow is another day.
