Jeffrey's Track Side Diner - August, 2019

They are coal fired with real, but small lumps of coal!

[:(] friday [:(]

.

Normally I would be excited about Friday, but I have to work all weekend, and I am out of town.

.

Next weekend won’t be any better.

Good morning …

Ricky … Thanks for sharing your “catfish” photo.

JR… Congrats on being an almost grandpa. … Nice to see the race car.

Kevin … Good of you to take time from your full schedule to visit the Diner.

Ulrich … That is an impressive video of the 15" railway.

Everybody … Have a nice day.

Hey all. I have an interview today, so hopefully I’ll be employed again soon.

Pulling for you, Jimmy!

In Britain, there is a handful of railway modellers building models of the 15" gauge lines. These models are usually British O scale (1/43.5), runnng on 9mm track, using N scale mechanisms. It´s quite a challenge and you just can´t take a shell of an HO scale loco und put a N scale mechanism underneath it. You have to pay careful attention to detail, as some of the fittings need to be oversized.

Ken, you have my sympathies on losing Sparkie. You did your best for him, and I’m sure he appreciated it up to the end.

Let’s all drown our sorrows in some coffee and donuts.

Also, good luck to Jimmy on the job interview!

Jimmy … Best wishes for your interview.

Steve O … Thanks for the donuts. Yummy. … How are your cats doing these days? Any recent photos ?

Ulrich … Interesting photos of models of the 15" trains.

Steven - those donuts come in time for dessert! We just had supper and I´d be happy to take one of your donuts to top it off!

Btw, the blue loco in the video on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Rlwy. may look rather un-British to you - and you are right. The loco was built in 1929 in Munich/Germany by Krauss-Maffei and is a sister engine to those you see in Vienna, Stuttgart and Dresden. It was acquired by the R&E in 2016.

Lion.

My Son’s third Son is due in two weeks.

Judy and I will be traveling to Mandan North Dakota when He is born to welcome my third Grandson into the world. I will give you a heads up.

Bloody Prime Rib on me at the Roadhouse is soon[dinner]

I’m so looking forward to seeing You and checking out all your beautiful work on your Subway Layout as well… Visiting my Monk friend Lion in your Monastery is on the top of my list of things to do while I’m your home state of North Dakota[Y]

Track Fiddler

Condolances Ken. I hope I up do date on all those who have lost someone one.

Tongue reduction. Never heard of that, sounds like something out of Treasure Island.

Br Elias I had to go to wiki to understand the terms you used. Be careful of those nuns, I’ve heard stories they pack a mean ruler.

MR in a slump. I did decal a loco, need to put some gloss/matte on it.

I bought a Spring Mills B&O caboose at Timonium in the spring I thought about buying 2 for $60 each. They are NLA and the two on sale on ebay are $160 and $200

We can fix this Lion. I have an awesome set of tools and I want to see that box car door straight again[:)]

.

This is aggravating me. I hate not being the principle in charge of a project. It seems like I spent 4-5 hours each day yesterday and today waiting for other people to make the obvious decisions.

.

This has given me ample time to visit the diner.

.

More of the same tomorrow.

.

Thank goodness next week I will be presenting in the training room.

Good Evening All,

Thanks for the coffee and donuts Steve. Much appreciated especially the virtual ones. Fewer calories.

Left w…k early and took a nap this afternoon. I feel much better now. Spent time on the layout tonight painting foam on the risers and finishing ditches. Getting a little done each evening is better than trying to blitz stuff.

Kevin - i feel your fustration. One of the things that really turned me off with modern pro racing is the sheer amount of time wasted waiting for the engineering staff to make a decision and put out a job list so the mechs can get to it. I was brought up in different times when we (the mechanics) actually had input as to what was needed. Watching the team stand around until 10 or 11 at night and then be given a 4 hour job list just wound me right up. The engineers then would head off to the hotel while the crew worked. Of course said crew was back on the job at 7am the next morning no matter how late they worked the night before. I also firmly believe this is how many mistakes happen as people get fatigued.

With the modern prototypes we run now, we frequently employ an engineer but have been careful to get one that is a team player. Ok. Rant over[soapbox]. Anyway better luck next week Kevin.

Another long day coming tomorrow so we’ll see you then. Ciao, J.R.

Kevin … As once expleined to me. … “It takes an unusaul mind to make a detailed analysis of the obvious.”

Good Morning!

Weekend! Normally, folks love weekends - time to relax, time for the family and time to take care of the house and the yard! Well, I don´t like weekends, but for a different reason. Weekends are the noisiest time in the place where I live. Kids visiting their fathers, little feet stomping up and down the stairs all the time, yelling, screaming all day long. No respect for the elderly, no consideration for their need of peace and quiet! Yes, I am turning into a grumpy old man! Time to get out here, but I am afraid there will be a further delay. I don´t thing we will be out here much before Summer 2020.

Kevin - I am with you on not being in control of things and having to wait for some nitwit to decide. I have waisted half of my life in waiting for people who must have had mechanical brains not well-lubed!

Railway jobs in Britain - here is a late 1950s educational film by British Transport Films aimed at recruiting young people for British Rail.

Later in the day, we shall be paying a visit to the"other" toy train in the south of England!

Back again!

The Saturday chores are done - dusting the furniture, vacuuming the floors, feeding the washing machine and, finally, the weekend grocery run!

Time to relax! What better way there is to relax with a couple of train videos? Join me in a tour to the “other” toy train, the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Rlwy.

First, a little bit of background, told in a late 1970s video.

Part Two shows some interesting footage of war time deployment and well-known celebrities paying a visit to the line.

Last, but not least, a few recent shots taken during the May Gala Event.

Enjoy!

May we have a special place on the RIP track for Sparkie?

Good morning. Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and black coffee. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Forget dessert. Just more coffee.

Won’t get much accomplished today. Have to drive to the city (1½ hours away) to babysit for the youngest two grandchildren.

I imagine it will include riding tricycles, getting Happy Meals at McDonalds, watching a Disney princess movie, reading 4,200 books at bedtime, and falling asleep on the couch. It’s great!

Good morning …

Ulrich … You talked about doing house cleaning. Reading that made me realize you must be feeling good again. Your recent hart surgery must have been successful. If so, I am very happy for you. … Thanks for the videos.

Mr. B … Yeah. Ken talk about his beloved Sparkie enough so Sparkie was like a mascot here in the Diner.

John / York 1 … Enjoy your visit with grandkids.

Afternoon Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a [B] please.

Had a fair sizes post yesterday that disappeared today?

We are still grieving over Sparkie. Wife is lossing it, when it was 3:30 PM today she lost it. [:'(] 3:30 PM was feeding time for Sparkie. I am holding up better today except for when Sue losing it.

Far as Sparkie on the RIP listing? I would not mind but is it really appropriate?

Mulch Tip At Lowes if there is a bag of mulch that has a rip in it ask them to bag it in a Recovery Bag. Besides putting in the bag you get it for half price. Same trick works for damaged foam that I used on the layout.

Time to play in the mulch.

Later none smoking Ken
