Jeffrey's Trackside Diner- April 2016

A wet Good Afternoon one and all.
Well, quite the 48 hours! I may have mentioned that we encouraged our daughter and BF to find alternate accommodation a while ago, now that all the grandchildren have left the nest – and this was accomplished – the last thing being the removal by them of the garden shed from behind the property last week. That gave a clear field of fire, so to speak, for a house clearing outfit to remove all the junk they and their friends had left. The realtor we had engaged gave us a lead on suitable firms, together with a cleaning company who followed the house clearers on March 31st. The listing was to take effect today April 2nd. Last evening at dinner time we had a call from the realtor – we had an offer! (As you may be aware, real estate listings are shared between companies 48 hours before going public. At least, that’s the Canadian m

DER - a real coffee in BC would be kinda cool - the Vanc → Alaksa cruise has been on my to-do for many years (don’t think that my wife can manage a cruise though). I get to the lower mainland occasionally, so … you’re buying [:D]

Sounds like a plan, but first we have to land that fish!

Evening Diners,

Probably next month or so we’ll bring it back up again. I know some people miss it.

Train News: I received my Conrail Flexi-Flo covered hoppers from the Trainworx warehouse in Colorado.

Well finished remodeling for the evening, Got all of the trim off and back up in the family room,Breakfast room, 1/2 the foyer and reinstalled the shoe mold, patched one drywall hole, cleaned the mess, put away all of the tools… I was smarter about todays work. I took three Ibuprofen BEFORE I started this morning. Not in near as much pain as I was last week at the end of the day. [8D]

Angel - That would be nice with a location

Der - Vancouver to Alaska ? That is a long boat ride ! Would it have to go around the horn or through the canal ?

Krump - That looks like an expensive repair for someones RR !

Lion - Funny picture with the passenger car on the rail !

Mr. B - How can you drink beer and be Diabetic ?

Ulrich - Glad you are hearing better news from the ole sawbones

Hello all - Ken, V8 , Garry, Galaxy, Howmus

Evenin’ folks!

Janie, a cup of a french Roast Organic Decaf would suit me well at the moment…

Well… I spent most of today helping out the R&GV RR Museum at the Greenburg Show in Rochester. Talked to a bunch of people and handed out some information to several people. The big reason I decided to drive all the way to Rochester though was that I was hoping to have a few of my NMRA members that haven’t signed the petition yet come over and sign. One did! One… That’s all. There were a couple more members with him that he was going to send over to the table, but they never showed. The guy that runs the booth has the petition at the moment in case anyone shows up to sign tomorrow…

It has been threatening rain most all day, and now it has rained and turned to Sn*w out there. 1" to 3" of the white stuff tonight and again tomorrow…

My kitties are feeling a bit better and are both eating again (and pooping again…) They didn’t eat anything for several days and hadn’t gone poop for about 4 or 5 days… They will get another dose of hairball meds tonight before bedtime. I was getting worried about them.

Good Evening to All.

Back from work and another week done. Getting ready for some bad weather in the next few hours.

YGW - sent you a PM.

Glad to relax with a good cup of mud.

Evening Dinners

Flo, [B] Please

Work Front Second $0.00 Saturday in a row? [banghead] To tell the truth I was glad Jerry was there, I had some one to talk with, it was that slooooow.

YGW It depends on how your body reacts to it and the long term A1C test. In my case I react badly to white bread, but not too potato’s.

By the way YGW. Did you happen to find any C&O decales in the box I sent you? Last time I saw them was when I brought home the box in the garage / train room. Did get your snail mail today. On the extra, did you see where I said they where a gift from me and hope you can use them?

Far as getting back to K-10 Model Trains, that might be a few week’s. With working on the backyard, Dr appoiments for my wife and I plus I need to stay the heck out of the places $ wise for a while. ( I am a Train Junkie)

Der I glad you sold your house, I think? For the last 6 years I have been fighting to keep mine so it seems a little odd to me.

Got to check on the [pi] Luckly I did earlier, wife was cooking it on the Cardboard that it came on? [dinner]

Ken

der did you put thar random error message in your post to confuse us who have trouble with computers?

I went to the drag races today for the 1st time in a long time, years. I used to go to this strip and then it closed down but it’s back. For awhile southern Calif. The birthplace of hot rodding had no drag strip, Pomona is for professionals only.

This is at the California Speedway a huge Nascar facility, they have a drag strip on the side.

68 miles one way and a hour and a half, thats from my driveway to parked.

This is my birthday present to me, it’s Monday

I couldn’t see t

Dennis ( V8-Vega)

Happy Birrthday to you Mate. [bday][C=:-)] So glad you had a good day and had some fun. Also glad to hear you had some good luck in getting your car repaired reasonably.

I had to work today and tomorrow, so I was reading all the latest news stories here before hitting the sack, which I will now do.

YGW> Vancouver is on the west coast of Canada, just a few miles north of Seattle . To Alaska is not the lenght of trip that you were thinking. No Cape Horn or Panama canal. Just the Inside Passage.

Ulrich, great news on the health front. But, still do as you are told by the Doc. and Petra. It is a slow go, but you can lose some weight if you set your mind to it.

Cuda Ken, Sorry about the slow Saturday at work. We know how hard you try for those Spiffs.

DerJohn, Congrats on the house sale, Where to now art thou going ?

Night all, sleep well, lots of dreams of shiney Rails.

Johnboy out…Later Gators

That depoends on what neighborhood you live in…

Should be fun either way.

Flo can my make my Grandfathers Mish Mash? Soft boiled eggs, bacon and cottage cheese, all mixed up in a bowl.

I thought I was here yesterday, but maybe not. Good news from doctors is a good thing Ulrich. And a sold house for Der, always a good feeling when you sell a house.

Soldered a couple feeders Friday and my old soldering skills had deserted me. I got one of those soldering stations that Randy recommended and some 60/40 electrical solder branded Bernzomatic. Boogered up a couple ties in the process. Yesterday my skills returned, plus I switched solder. The Bernzomatic to have a higher melting point than I expected.

It was rainy yesterday, then the temp started dropping. 35 mph winds last night and this morning and Spring has left us. It’s only 40 degrees and still blowing.

I’m a bad boy.

Seriously, my A1C was close to 10 (very bad) before I started my medication and exercise. Now it’s around 6. My doctor says he tries to get his “managed” patients in the 7 range, so he has told me a couple of times that I get a gold star, which I have yet to receive. I tell him that “we” have achieved this, because I think it’s a partnership between me and my doctor. He listens to me about how I feel, whereas so many doctors just read the numbers. I had great numbers on Metformin, too, but I felt terrible.

I’m 69 years old. I tell people I’d rather have 15 more years of steak and beer than 20 more years of brown rice and vitamin water. I generally take care of myself, but I’m not interested in a life of deprivation if I can help it.

Good Afternoon!

It´s past 5pm, so it´s “Happy Hour”! Zoe, pour the guys whatever poison they´d like to have and put all of it on my tab, if you please …

Make that a myu load of decaf for me, please.

I am suffering from a series of dizzy spells all day long, making me “fuzzy” and nervous. I will go and see my doc about it - he may have to change my medication. No MRRing today, as I have difficulties to see properly.

For whatever reason I seem to have access to MRVP and it´s a pity I can´t make use of this opportunity. Such is my luck [:'(]

[bday] - Dennis, I hope you are having a wonderful [<:o)]

Mornin’ everyone! yep, still morning here in the Finger Lakes Region for a few more minutes.

Zoe, I just need another pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee to help me wake up…

Today is changable… Sun, Snow, Clouds, Snow, Sun, Wind, Sun, Snow… The old saying about the Finger Lakes holds true today. If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute!

Not sure what the rest of the day will bring… Probably will go over to my son’s house and give Granddaughter #1 her guitar lesson and stay for dinner. Calling for 3 to 5" of fluffy white stuff today and tonight so the roads will not be good. My son now works over in Cayuga County and they have advised no unnessesary travel. Not sure if he is working today or not. Currently 25°F outside with a high of 32°F maybe later…

Have a good one and stay safe wherever you are!

edit Another tragic and totally preventable accident in Philadelphia. An Amtrak train ran into, what is being reported as an Amtrak backhoe on the tracks. The only pictures they are showing is a Loram Railvac unit, a pic of a tire which could be from the back hoe and a smashed loco windshield and a car with a hole punched through the window. Maybe it’s too windy to put the helicopter up.

How can they not tell the guy running the backhoe when the next train comes by? They just held a news conference which I caught on a live feed, and Amtrak said less than I have said. NTSB is on the way.

Sunday or not, that line of tracks is always busy. Ergo a train is ALWAYS to be expected there. Does not the MOW crew have its own watchers with radions out at all times.

Maybe the watcher whistled all off of the tracks, and the backhoe pivioted to comply and got cautht with his pants down, as it were.

TRACKS is dangerous place!

BTW AMTK reports no service WASH to NYP…

NJT reports normal service. Well, doh`, NJT does not go south of PHI

YGW:

Très drôle! In this case the « canal » is « The InsidePassage » firstly between the Mainland and Vancouver Island past Campbell River (an old stomping ground of ours) and then between the mainland and various other islands – see https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Inside+Passage/@54.8250805,-132.6657407,8z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x540da90c5a05e34d:0xd20ee4bdb6539686 and it there was ever a case for copy and paste, that puppy may be it ! [:o)]

Did I really need another locomotive? No. I was good and passed right by the Athearn SD-9 in Milwaukee colors, used, of course, for $50. Good thing, too, because 3 minutes later I found another one for $25. Did I need another project? No, but at that price I couldn’t pass it up.

Got a couple of vehicles (tow truck and milk delivery truck) and a Bragdon rock mold, too.

Hey folks

Johnboy - Bit embarrased. My knowledge of Canada geography is very limited and for some reason I thought Vancouver was on the east coast. OOOOPs Thanks.

DER - Sorry I thought you lived on the east coast of Canada. Is it pretty rural where you are ? Our Pastor spoke on if your really believe Jesus is coming back you would live your life differently. We also had Baptisms today. Two women and three men were Baptized. Really good Sunday !

Howmus - Is your granddaughter a natural with teh music lessons ?

Ulrich - Glad you are going to the doctor. That needs to be checked

Mr. B - LOL ! " I am a bad boy " reminded me of Abbot and Costello line

Henry - Did you get the predicted 66 mile an hour winds ? We recieved extremely strong sustained winds. In fact we lost power for several hours.

V8 Happy birthday [^] - that sound like a nice present to yourself

Ken - No decals. Yes thanks for the gifts. We were also discussing wheels for sale. I can wait for whenever you next get out there. No rush. “Train Junkie” comment made me laugh. Do you remember the old Jerry Reed song " Junk food junkie" ? Maybe he should redo the songs for guys like us “Train Junkies” ! [{(-_-)}]

Galaxy - How are you ?

Chessie yes I saw the PM. Will respond later. Looking forward to the meet.

Gotta run. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekends.
