SIL - Update. She is making strides in improving. So much so that she has been able to take her kids at times on her own. The dirt bags who did this to her have had the book thrown at them. From arson, attempted murder and five or six other charges. I also found out that she had taken one of the dirt bags in because he was homeless. He repaid her kindness with trying to burn her alive and beating the crud out of her. [:(!] I would hate to be him when he stands before God and give an account of his miserable life. It is gonna be a very bad day for that person. He had better ask for forgiveness before he leaves this place, because if he doesnt the fire he will be facing will be nothing compared to the eternal fire for which there is no escape.
I guess it is lunch time, Chloe, I would appreciate you lining up 4 Perogies with mushroom sause, a small bowl of sauerkruat, and some corned beef on the side. Follow that with a Dr. Pepper, Oh wait. make that a RBF, as it is now spring.
Ulrich, I sure hope it is only heartburn or something similar. You got to get healthy Guy.
Garry, So sorry to hear of the trials in Michigan and hope that your family there come through without lasting effects. But I know they will remember. A young Lady who grew up next door to us and was like a daughter to us was murdered in her home a year ago, the fortunate thing about that night was that her son was staying overnight with his Grandmother next door…
YGW. So glad for your positive update on your SIL and her boys. I do hope the book will be thrown at those perpitraitors very hard and for a very long time.
My prayers for all in need in varying ways.
Hope to get down to the LM&E. this afternoon for awhile… So much to do and not enough time. I guess I should retire… That will be the fifth time. Do you think it will stick this time if I do ??? [^o)]
I just finished with jury service; two days trying a 3rd degree felony; a local young knucklehead was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle. Very incriminating evidence with a dash cam and officer testimony. Guilty; got to skip the punishment phase of the trial when the offender pled guilty to an additional offense of a like nature.
Steve Feliz Navidad…no wait Bueńos ańos! That sounds better.
Ulrich best of luck my friend, you didn’t give us much to go on. I guess you are not in labor. Since we share dubious tickers, I hope it is not that. Maybe you are having a kidney stone. I don’t think I’ve ever wished a kidney stone on anyone, but it’s the best house in a bad neighborhood.
I got some buildings from Walthers today. 1/3 of the top of the box was split open at the tape and the bottom was held only by the reinforcing strings within the tape that was otherwise split. It was one of these FedEX to USPS deals and I tried to pick it up at the post office yesterday, but they only had one guy behind the counter for the 10 people in line. The customers must have been Ebay sellers, most had boxes of envelopes or small packages. No damage or missing parts.
Evening Flo, are you getting off soon? Anyhoo get me a decaf and a cinabon roll if you are still working.
So I cleaned all my track - 3 mainlines 1 branch - yes they are in a loop so it was easy - apart from inhaling the 91% cleaning alcohol on the cleaning pads. But that track really “gleams” now.
So I sit down and run the engines to see how they react and everything went “hunky dory”. So then I think what should I do next?
Add some more realistic features to my basic layout or add some more buildings or bridges etc to my layout.
Ideas are welcome.
I am looking for a short term project - not a major one - don’t know how long my time here (in Mississippi) will last. I might live a lot longer - but have no room to keep my layout. The wife wants to move to Florida - to a trailer in a 55+ plus park, Then we are done.
Wed 92 Thur. 73 Fri. 40% chance of rain thur., Fri., and Sat. We can always use the rain.
Somewhere around 1990 Lionel, MTH, Bachman Williams, and Atlas begain overseas manufacturing and started making some true 1:48 scale and scale detailed trains.
I suppose the more fussy among you would find inaccuracys in them but their much better than the toy trains before. Also Command Control, these trains are expensive, more than I want to pay.
I have a few scale engines, actually postwar F-3’s and GP’s were pretty close to scale size.
The correct 1:48 engines are huge compared to my older stuff, my older stuff really is a oddball scale, the track is probably 5’ wide or wider.
I now stick to what we call traditional size, it looks better on my small layout.
With 3 rail you have to be willing to overlook too small pilot wheels and a gap between the trailing truck and the cab bottum on steam, swinging pilots on diesels, (I had a hard time with this) and a gap between the pilots and the chassis.
Thought I’d just pop my head and say HI! … HI! been a while since I’ve been here, unfortunately my current work and lifestyle allow very little time to do any modelling. In fact late last year I sold my N scale layout and most of my rolling stock as it was doing nothing but gather dust. I held onto some favourites, but I don’t see any time in the near future to have time to start on a new layout. I did keep what was originally going to be an extension to my old layout which was 2x4’ and also have enough track and switches to make a nice little loop and an industry. If circumstances change I have a plan in mind, so I can at least ‘run a train’. Don’t worry the desire still flickers inside, it’s just not practical at the moment. I do still enjoy reading the odd MR, and I should probably try get a moment more often to drop by. take care all!
I am back from an overnight stay at the ER. The pain was and still is terrific, but at least I know what it is. I must have caught some kind of a vicious bug that has settled into my joints, causing an infection. Hardest hit are my shoulders and my hips. Elbows are affected as well, only my wrists and fingers seem to be OK. I am on strong pain meds and antibiotics, which hopefully kick in in a couple of days.
Dennis - 3 rail layout? How cool is that! One of my secret loves. Mind to post pictures of your layout (please)?
Ulrich … Glad you are being treated, and wish you a speedy recovery.
James … Great to see you again ! I can relate to your situation because there have been times in my life when I was too busy for any hobbies. I’ve always had model trains, but they were in storage during those times. Please visit the Diner anytime .
V8 Vega… A lot of those 3-rail trains look beautiful, but I know what you mean about some of the new ones being very expensive.
Chris … You asked for ideas. What kinds of trains do you have?. What era and location ? … Meanwhile, look for ideas in Model Railroader and their publications.
Henry … Sounds like the package handlers were playing rough with your package. Glad the contents survived.
Tin Can … It is unfortunate people become trouble makers and violate the laws. I’m sure the jury did the right thing in the situation you described.
JohnBoy … Thanks for commenting … That is a very sad story about the lady being killed.
YGW … Thanks for the prayer and I’m glad SIL is recovering. Prayers for her must be helping.
Howdy Brother Elias! Oh, there are some other folks here as well this afternoon… ah Evening… Hmmmmm… Ahem, my watch says it is morning…
For the past couple months every morning when I check the Weather Channel Page it tells me it is still the day before… So right now the main page for Geneva, NY says it is 6:25pm yesterday here in town, but over in Waterloo right next door it is 10:25am the next day… Go figure. The hourly forecast says it is now 35°F outside but the main page says it is 27°F…??? I guess I will just add it to the list of things I just don’t understand.
Monday when I went grocery shopping at Tops Market, I picked up a gallon of distilled water (actually I picked up 2 gallons of distilled water, but that is irrevelent). The Store manager was standing right next to me in the aisle so I used the opportunity to ask a question of him. Again this is one of those many things in the world that I don’t understand, so… “Why is there a use by date on distilled water?” He looks at me and says, “huh?” So I say it again! He scratches his head and I show him the gallon jug. I ask, so, does it go bad or something? I mean this is distilled H2O, pure water! Two atoms of Hydrogen and one atom of Oxygen. Been around as long as the planet has been here! Water was around before the dinosaurs were here. So why is there a use by date on Distilled Water??? He didn’t know either!
Oh, Garry, meant to say yesterday that you and your family are in my prayers during this unsettling and disturbing time!!!
Best get moving as I need to get my shower and then head over to the Fieldhouse and get some exersize… Later!
That was a tough game of hockey last night. I played very well, but my team kind of collapsed in the last half hour (we play 1 1/2 hours) so we lost by a couple of goals. We had a poor turnout, too, and with only 2 subs on the bench everyone got quite a workout. But, I feel pretty good this morning. Still, I have no idea how I could get up at 6 and go to work every Wednesday morning before I retired. Retired from work before retiring from hockey had been a goal of mine for a long time.
Ulrich, I like to think positive, so I say “diagnosis is the first step on the road to recovery.” Even better, they don’t have to cut you open to fix it. Cheers. I’ll take a walk outside today and split the aerobic benefits with you. How’s that?
I could go for a bacon, egg, cheese sandwich. With a big iced coffee on the side.
Garry, I’ll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. I’m sorry and saddened to hear of the situation they’re in.
I had the last two days off and got engrossed in getting ahead on various model building projects. I’m down to the finishing line for an NACX milk tank flat car, and Borden’s butterdish milk tank car. Both by F&C. I’ve a second milk tank car I’ve not started yet. I’ll get on that before to long. The kits are not particularly difficult, just considerably more time consuming than styrene kits. That’s okay by me, as I love the greater satisfaction from these kits.
For more freight car project fun, I love Pennsy REA X29s and I’ve been building up a fleet of the Red Caboose models. I’ve built up three factory painted models so far. I have one more that needs decals, and three more factory painted kits to assemble. Two kits that I’ve painted and just need to finish adding parts, than decals. Finally, three unpainted kits to build, paint, and letter. For paint I’m using an approx mix of Polly-Scale SAL orange, and Zinc Chromate Primer tweeked to try and match the factory painted Red Caboose kits. Not perfectly matched, but I don’t care. Lite to moderate weathering on all the cars will help later on. Some will have dreadnaught ends and Youngstown doors, but most will have the plate ends and creco doors. Some models will have horizontal brakewheels.
Hello!!! From cannot figure whether spring is here or the return of winter part 22…
I am going to have a nice weekend of nothing doing. The band is firing on all cylinders and the set list has 15 great tracks on it. Still trying to figure out the tour details though. [:-^]
My health is still a bit of a up/down affair but a LOT better than it has been.
[angel] to those still suffering from different health issues and such.
A constrution company hit a 10" gas line while digging. I was about a mile away when it went off, sure woke me up! This is what I saw as I was going into a Walgreen’s. I did not take the photo, I was just a little behinde the person that took it. One worker has burns on 70% of his body. After being taken to a local hosptial he was flown to a St Louis Burn Hospital that has a Burn Center.
Alvie and Krump … Thanks for your thoughts and prayers regarding our situtation.
Ken … That’s exciting. I hope the worker can recover okay for those burns.
Barry (Blownout cylinder) … Good to see you. I hope your health has much more “ups” than “downs” .
Chris … There is a PRR modelers association which might have ideas you could use. If you Google Pennsylvania Railroad Models, you might find some images with ideas too.
Mr. B … I don’t play hockey. My skating is awful. Everytime I fall down, even the ice makes a few cracks.
Reinhardt … We have a white cat similar to the one in your avatar.
