I bought the last season of Warehouse 13 today. If anyone remembers it, it was on the sci-fi channel 2 years ago.
It’s been very windy today around one or two in the evening. They believe it’s going to rain.[*-)] I’ll find out sometime after I wake up later in the day (8:00a.m.)
I took the liberty of moving the Diner to the new location for the month - just down the track a little from where it had been in January.
It´s just incredible how fast January passed by - it seems to ghave been much faster than in past years! The good side of it is that we have gained about 1 1/2 hrs. of daylight since Christmas [Y]
I spent a nice afternoon at my new train friend´s place. He helped me doing the repairs on my broken down loco (the one in my avatar, which had developed gearbox problems). It was a much bigger job than both of us had anticipated, but after 3 hrs. of blood, sweat and tears plus a number of choice words I am not allowed to post here, we got it up and running again. It now purrs like a kitten, compared to the howling noise of a jet plane taking of it made when I got it.
Sven (that´s my train friend´s name) is 20 years younger than I am and his eyes are better than mine and his hands less shaky. He is building a huge layout, which would cover all of our apartment - some 800 sqft.! Too big for my taste!
Ulrich … Thanks for moving the Diner. I have moved the Chapel Car to be with the Diner for those who need a sanctury or a place of refuge. … I’m hoping all of the bad luck is being used up, and good luck will prevail.
Also, Ulrich … I’m glad you have a friend helping you repair your locomotive. Say “Hello” to Sven from North America. We think he is a good guy.
Henry … I hope the boxcar project you mentiond is going well.
Everybody: … What are your plans for model railroading in February?
I have several projects awaiting me. There is a location on my main line where I will make some corrections to the track where occassional derailments occur. Some steam locomotives and some passenger cars are very sesnitive to curves and changes in grade. I’ll have to pull up track, and make changes to the plywood base. I will need a day or two to make the corrections. This is on the new section of the layout, and I must do this before continuing with scenery.
Thought I’d stop by and say Hi to all. Watching the rest of the blizard snow melt today in Northern Virginia before my trip to the South China Sea tomorrow. Hope all in the North East got through the blizard safe and sound. Time to run the late morning commuter train.
He certainly is. It´s great to know him. When it comes to model railroading we are birds of a feather…
Folks, I blew it! I got “the look” from Petra. I have been trying to keep household peace by not doing any major w*rk on my layout which is messy, but I failed. Today I overdid it by cutting the Masonite boards for the fascia. You know how much dust is involved in that!
Petra had just hung up the laundry on the drying rack. Shame on me [:-^]
Hard to believe that Jan. is gone for the year, and now for you Engineers that have a Firewoman in your Cab (wife or Girlfriend), keep in mind that in two weeks it is Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget or you might be booted out of your Cab.
Well, I had a gremlin show up last week on the LM&E. and where everything had been running smooooth, all of a sudden (with no changes having been made) when I went to run a train on the 2nd Main another loco on the Branchline would start to run as well and vice versa. I spent the evening on Friday and most of Saturday checking everything, block controls, the Controlmasters, the throttles, all the track and turnouts and could not find a source of the problem. The only thing that I couldn’t see was where the feeder was soldered onto the Barnchline as that joint was buried under the concrete slab I poured under the Elevated Station. So I took the chance and cut off that feeder under the benchwork where it went up to the track and extended it to an area that is more in the open. And guess what? Everything works the way it is supposed to. Seems that somehow, and I can’t think why, a leak had occured in the slab between the two lines. ???. So now I am back to being a happy camper but will always be thinking about how that could have occured.
Back at work today and tomorrow. It is cloudy and gray here, about -8 C. and very little wind which makes it rather pleasant out. Still above our average for this time of the year and we virtually have no snow. It is indeed a very strange year. C.N. Charlie, Seamonster and Blind Bruce in Winnipeg have had more winter than we have had and we are only 363 miles apart on the praries. I do believe it is some lake affect they get being just south of two large lakes.
I guess I should get back to work for awhile, but will check in later.
Hope you all have a great week with lots of healing for those doing so an
Zoe, I’ll have a pot of Seneca Lake Dark Roast Coffee and a couple Sour Cream Glazed Donuts to dunk in it, please and thank you Ma’am.
Ulrich, thanks for moving the diner for us. I think you forgot to lock the doors on the last one though… Somebody was in there wonderin’ where everyone is…
Yesterday January closed out at just over 100 kWh of electric from the solar panels on my roof. Down just a few from last year, but down about 25 from two years ago. Last year I made no electric the last week of January as there was about a foot of snow on the roof! I have already made more this February morning than I did in the entire month of February last year, so that is a plus!
Today is going ot be a busy one around these parts as I need to go to Canandaigua to feed my sister’s kitties (clean the litter box, drop off more litter and kittie treats, sit an read something while the PiP charges) and then head to Rochester to drop off the petition to the Asst’ Super of the division so he can try to get more people signed…
Need to call for more CPAP Supplies from the wholesaler it comes from. Would also dearly like to be able to find some time tonight to work on the Girder Bridge project…
Greatings to a new month. It is hard to believe January flew by so fast. Yesterday I took my walk in a flannel shirt, today it was back to the winter coat.
Our own little corner of the world has a raging controvery going on about a retired police officer and his trained German shepard Ajax. He offered to buy the dog but apparently state law treats the dog as municipal property and it has to go to bid. The issue has gone viral on social media and it has drawn national news attention. I guess a crowd funding effort has pledged over $50,000 to buy the dog which is way crazy. It will be interesting to see the final resolution. The city has already held a press conference to air their side of the issue. Lots of black eyes already.
Managed to glue down all my stained ties this afternoon. Cleaned out the gunk in my staining vessel so I can mix up another batch of stain and do up another package of ties.
Thanks to Uhlrich for moving the diner again this month.
Well, January’s gone, welcome to February. Nice to hear from so many folks. It was spring-like warm here in Maine today - into the 60’s. I personelly prefer it to be 'seasonally cool".
I sent the recalcitrant sound decoder off to the experts. It will be interesting to see how badly itis fried, if that is the case. In the meantime I am going to try to build from scratch a model of a Signal Station for my railroad (others call them 'tower’s). this will be something new for me, we will see if this is something that I can be succssful for future projects.
Happy Feb One to all…Supper’s ready, I am done for now…
3 prisoners escaped from the jail here, they had nothing to loose, they were murders. So the big news story here for a week. They have been captured now.
The LA Times had big long articles of all the details of how they got out and what they did while out and how they were captured. Interesting story.
Evening. I didn’t even think of it being Feb 1st, even though I knew it was.
Well, we are done with the trailer, end of Jan.
Garry: Thanks for the concern expressed in last month’s diner. I placed an emergency call to Mental Health this morning as soon as they opened to get in to see my counselor. She isn’t available until Thursday for me, and that is after services on Wed evening {whihc we will attend the whole time}.
The services for Christian are wed evening, there will be calling hours prior to a service at 7pm,followed by a dinner after.
I have a morning appt wiht my pulmonologist to find out more about the shadow on my Xray. We willsee hwat happens, Keep your fingers crossed it is JUST a shadow on hte Xray!!! ANd not a pulmonary nodule, cancerous or not.
The blurb on the back says “Sunlit Steam on the Hill” Canadian Pacific Railway’s handsome, powerful #5928 heads the two-engine (sic) “Dominion” up Kicking Horse Pass at Partridge, BC, towards the summit near Lake Louise, Alberta in 1940.
It’s a print of a painting. Glad you liked it. YGW:
…when I’ve finished the plans for the support structure. I’ve most if not all the lumber, and of course the doors have been scored. They’ll be framed so that the pieces of door can be fixed together, and legs attached. There has to be a platform near the floor on which to stand the sets of drawers presently taking up a fair bit of the space the layout will occupy. So, not tomorrow, but quite possibly this month… Henry: </
Over all today was pretty uneventful. Work was OK at the very best. I was looking at what I made last year comparied to this year, about a 20% drop in income.
Train Room Front. [banghead] Good news is the trains are running well! But the Control Tower Chair Is Jacked Up! OK, it is my offices chair. I have to get 80% of my weight on the right side or something slips and I am leaning at a 10% grade to the left. I have a good idea what the problem is. A self tapping screw should do it, but at last I have none that I can find.
Ulrich, shame, shame, shame on you! [(-D] Fresh laundry and saw dust do not get a long!
Looking at our weather, Punxsutawney Phil would certainly claim the end of Winter. It´s a wet & windy day, with the daytime high expected tp exceed 10°C!
Folks, I am really in for something nasty. I just did very little on the layout this morning, with only a tiny bit of dust involved, but Petra was short of losing her temper! I made arrangements to do the cutting of the remaining fascia boards at a friend´s place - my attempt at restoring the household peace.
