I thought I would get a jump on posting the new diner thread and my reason for doing so is because it is already 2025 in New Zealand where our favourite Bear resides so why not.
Seeing as how we had not had any theme or destinations suggested I think we should go with a “times they are changing” thread, and we can post then and now photos and other things related to the passage of time on the railroad. Be it old model train stuff or prototype, let’s talk about the then and now.
Nice to be able to have the forum and diner back in business to start the new year.
Thanks, Brent. Excellent topic. Should be interesting. Let’s see if we can get a few more former patrons to come out of the woodwork. Root beers all around. Put 'em on Snoopy’s tab, girls.
Brent, thnx for stepping up. In the next few days I will see if I can figure out how to post pics. I’ll then have a few then and nows. And hopefully a few Corvette pics that I said I would post months ago.
Wow, that was pretty simple. So for what it’s worth, this is my tribute to my Dad and his Dad. My Grandfather started a company in the 20’s in South Boston making protective grill work for schools, government buildings, companies doing sensitive work for the government. Even a lot of work in Fenway Park! After his passing my Dad, my Uncle and my Aunt continued the business. Probably doesn’t mean much to you all, I get that, but to me it brings back a flood of memories of the location and family. To be able to see it here is moving to me. And to be able to do this on my birthday is just icing on the cake (no pun, I think). Thnx for listening.
Yes, I’d like to see that classic beauty. And you reminded me to go down and turn that Stang over. The worse thing for machinery is to sit and do nothing. Guess that’s the same thing with older guys too. Gotta keep those coggs turning!
A picture of NBR Class D30 number 9499 ‘Wandering Willie’, a regular on the Border Counties Railway, seen near Chipchase Castle in 1925. She is heading north to Hawick on a three carriage train.
These days take away the train and track the scene is no different.
TF, I missed this earlier post. Is the Filet, lobster, et al for a “Diner” meal or your personal today? If the ladder ship any leftovers to me Sir! And thnx for the H.B. wish, much appreciated.
Tophias your car is beautiful. The styling of that generation of Corvettes has always been my favorite. The vertical orientation of the rear window was so much better than the bubble top that came later. I know a lot of people don’t like the aggressive flares on the front fenders above the steer tires, but I think they add a menacing bit of elegance, but certainly not understated.
Thnx guys, I remember when the C3’s came out in ‘68 (I was a junior in high school) there was a huge amount of buzz about the styling. Performance peaked in ‘70 and by ‘73 engines had been de tuned and engineered to run on unleaded gas. But the 454 still put out 395 ft. Lbs. of torque. We are both aging gracefully, but she has more original parts that I do!
The Vettes hold a lot of heritage. They have always been a well dressed muscle machine in my book. My friend had a 63 split window, the rarest Vette, as only made one year.
They were unliked at the time, as the fact of limited visability out the back. Who needs exceptional visibility out the back? Does one need to see where he’s already been ripping up the street?
We’re almost through our food. We’ve been sippy, sippy all day and have eated the shrimp, the crab legs, and now moving to the Fillets and Lobster. Taste buds are happy here!
Happy New Year!!! Its been a LONG TIME since i posted to the trackside diner. Here are two photos of my coffee table layout that i like to operate during the holidays. Its N scale and it is Hawaii during the fifties. Enjoy! Aloha!
