Hey all. Today has been productive. I got some projects advanced further along in prep for the Railroad Prototype Modelers meet in Youngwood PA this month.
I was able to finish an ex Rock Island hopper(Check the Weekend Photo Fun 2/28-3/2). I put on a second layer of paint on a GP11 for Allegheny Valley Railroad.
It was also a “Victory lunch” for my model railroad club, celebrating a VERY successful train sale and show back in January. It is very cold here and thankful I filled up my gas tank last night
Gidday Diners, from a sunny down under, currently 68°F, forecast to rise to 78°F this afternoon.
Thanks for moving the Diner, Batman.
With all the mentions of bacon and eggs by York1John, and Water Level Mike, I decided that if you can’t beat them, then join them, so fired up the BBQ, and cooked up Sunday brunch.

Oh well, back to finish up the resulting paperwork generated by a busy week.
Cheers, the Bear.
Here’s a Diner in Winchester, Virginia. Not quite trackside, but up the road from a CSX track. This Diner has been closed/under renovation/just sitting there for probably 30+ years. You can check it out on Wikipedia.
Hey everyone, drink some coffee for me if you indulge. Is the RIP section only for people on the forums? I’ve been absent of late. My father passed unexpectedly on the 27th. He wasn’t on the forums but took me to many train events as a kid, was just wondering if maybe someone would be willing to say a prayer for his wife? Thank you for reading this.
Thank you, right now it’s all still new. I came here because my love of trains brought me to this great community. You fine folks are proving I made a great choice. Lots of great memories to be shared, I’ll start a thread when I can find pictures.
Gidday Psyerpunk, sorry to read about your Dad, and while the RIP track is specifically for passed Forum members, that doesn’t mean that his wife and you aren’t in my thoughts and best wishes.
Good morning Diners. A large coffee on the go please, Brunhilda.
Dawn is a little under the weather and is staying in bed, so I am playing nursemaid.
Psyferpunk Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
Diners My earliest recollections of dining on a train were in the early 1950s. When visiting family in Northumberland we usually travelled by bus. This time, for reasons still unknown to me we travelled by train. Not the ordinary service train, but ‘The North Briton’ Pullman.
Travelling to Newcastle we did not have ‘The Dining Experience’. I did not know what it was anyway; I just enjoyed the journey.
After a week visiting family we caught the ‘North Briton’ back to Leeds. This time we did have lunch on the train. I cannot remember what I ate, but oh the opulence.
Good morning, everyone. Just coffee today. We’re headed out the door to church and I can get my church donut!
Psyferpunk, I’m very sorry to hear about you father. I hope his wife will find comfort in the support of your family. We’ll pray for your family during the difficult time.
There’s not much happening on the plains except talking about the weather. It’s nice to have spring-like temps, but not the forecast is snow over the next several days.
Diners along the railroads tracks – if you’re a ATSF fan, you’ve got to mention Fred Harveys. They were really the first restaurant chain the U.S. Here’s some of the Harvey Girls. I hope posting the picture here doesn’t make Chloe, Flo, and Brunhilda jealous:
I was actually shocked it turned out so well, being taken with a phone camera.
Ill probably retake it with my digital camera and submit it for the 2026 nmra calendar
Good luck this week David, we will be thinking of you. Also good morning Diners just coffee for me please, A lot to do today try and check in this evening.
Good Morning Diners. Janie, just an ice water please.
Psyferpunk, I’m sorry to hear about your father. Thinking of you. May the memories of your dad draw a smile instead of a tear soon.
Got my rail yard ballast project done and the rolling stock moved back in. Forgot to take a picture to share though. Maybe I’ll remember when I get the rest of the tracks in the area done (main line, service tracks, etc).
Seeing how there are five of them, I thought you were going to say they are our diner staff. Minus the cook of course.
Happy Sunday to all. I’m excited, tomorrow I hear what my bonus will be. Every year I pick some project to spend some of my bonus on, and this year it’ll be my first order of flextrack and roadbed to start my layout.
