Jeffrey's Trackside Diner For November 2025

Good morning from the edge of the Pacific Rim where it is 0c and clear.

Had the big bash at my son’s new place last night. Big screens had hockey goin so all was well with the universe. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

My son is president of a large organization (a volunteer position) associated with Hockey Canada and they had their first big tourney of the year yesterday. I went for a few hours and it was so good to see everyone and chat while sitting around drinking coffee and watching the kids going at it on the ice. We never had a shortage of corporate funding for minor hockey and with my son now getting more influential in the corporate world he is able to twist a few arms and the results showed throughout the day as to the quality of the event. The food and give-aways were quite something. Lots of pairs of airline tickets to anywhere in the world and other good size prizes.

David, just keep on posting about your travels and other things, I enjoy hearing about them. I have over the years got many PMs from people saying I was bragging when I talked about my travels.

I never got married until I was 40 and that was on purpose. One of the reasons was because after watching my parents having to carefully budget while I was growing up, I wanted to be financially set for life before I had to worry about the cost of having kids, a home and all the rest of it, that was my choice. The other reason was, I wanted to travel a lot which I did, all over the world. I learned to fly, scuba dive, hang glide, sail and experienced a long list of other things. It was a conscious decision to work my butt off for twenty years right out of high school before settling down. I retired at fifty-two, my daughter was 7, my son was 10. It is really easy to get ahead in life if you want to put the work in, doing it without having to be responsible for others is just that much easier. People make choices in life, 99% of them tag along with the herd. Rant over.

Dog just brought us a dead rat from the back 40 and placed it outside the back door for us. Sunday dinner it is!!! MMMMM DOGGY!

Time for a quick 8km, another choice I am free to make.

All the best to all.

Love the classic lines of those ships! Much better looking than the “hotel on a hull” boxy cruise palaces that dominate the industry these days.

Hi Everyone,
We just had our first big snow storm for the season. Some places got 10-11 inches of snow. It’s a little early to get this much, but there it is.
I tried making nachos for the first time yesterday. They turned out pretty tasty if I do say so myself.

Dig in everyone.

Well, okay. But does that mean that cars, tractors, bowling and golf will also be welcome?

Just asking.

It’s the Diner. Why not?

Was just asking. But if you let one tentacle of the octopus into the door pretty soon the octopus occupies all the diner stools.

Perhaps that’s what the flag is useful for.

Good evening diners. A smoked old-fashioned for me, as well as a serving of spinach-artichoke dip. Feeling classy and quite cold.

I’d love to work on installing DCC into a locomotive (need the window open for ventilation while I solder), but winter is coming. It is 20F, feels like 10, and the weathermen are expecting us to receive 3-4 inches of snow. Fun!

I just got back home from a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with the missus. We had the chance to see both sides of the family, many of whom we had not seen since the wedding back in May. It was great getting to catch up! Now to wrap myself in a blanket and hopefully have something warm for dinner to fight off the cold. See you all in December!

The December Diner is now open for business and egg nog is on the house for the month, with or without rum.

Please join us there.

EGAADS!! NOT GOLF!!!
