JEFFREYS TRACKSIDE DINER-MARCH 2015!

Ha! When I showed up at work wearing my strange arm support, my office mate asked how I was going to type like that. Since he was strictly a 2-finger typist himself, I held up my good left hand with all 5 fingers outstretched and said, “Two and a half times faster than you.”

Anyway, good luck with it. To be honest, I couldn’t wait to get into the OR so my shoulder could get back to normal. The last thing I remember before waking up in the recovery room was a pretty nurse putting a mask over my face and saying, “Pick a sunny beach!”

Bear - Try turning the power off to your unit for a few minutes and then turn the power bck on. Sometimes it will reset itself and fire up.

Todd - hmmm that black eye doesnt look so good here is a steak to throw on it. Next time duck !!

Uncle Bob - March did sneak in I didnt realize it was March also

Up831 - Do you like the work ?

Rob - That is a tough spot to be in. Shoulder and ankle ? Ouch.

Ulrich - we sure have missed you.

Sleeting here and freezing rain ! Yuck. Took a nap and then decided to check the forum. Hope all have a great week end what is left of it. May check in later.

Galaxy … Thanks for moving the diner… Your surgery: I think you said it was in early March.Maybe this week. Hope it goes well… I have an old PM thread from last year when we talked about Jeff. I’ll post another message to it, and see if it gets to you.

Frank … I saw your truck in WPF… The company name was Galaxy. … I’ve heard that name before. … Thanks for commenting about steel mill.

Ulrich … Best wishes to you. Will you soon be making a spectacle of yourself?

Todd … Good seeing you. When I do ribs in the broiler I put a small amout of water in the bottom of the broiler pan to keep the meat moist and tender. It is better than boiling first.

Happy Model Railroading, everybody.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, just a hot chocolate for me right now.

Got up early enough to get to church today. I don’t think I mentioned that my DIL’s Father who lives in the Southwest had a major heart attack and ended up getting a quadruple bypass. DIL flew out there to be with him for a few days. She was supposed to get back early this morning. My son dropped the girls off at Sunday School and just as I was sitting down to breakfast there is a knock on the door… I open it and my son walks in. First thing he tells me is that his wife is not happy… Her flight was cancelled due to sn*w out there. She is in New Mexico I think. Hopefully she will get in sometime late tonight. So I only got one cup of Marrakesh Express this morning cause I was nice enough to share the pot with my son while I ate breakfast.

Tonight the family is taking my littlest Granddaughter out to dinner. She picked kentucy Fried Chicken, so that is what I will have for supper. Not where I would have picked to go, but, it is her Birthday (on Thursday)! I was planning that we would celebrate her birthday next weekend so I haven’t even got a card for her yet…

Glad to hear Ulrich will be getting his new spectacles soon! Galaxy, prayers for your upcoming surgery! Hope all goes well and you have a quick recovery!

Rob, I don’t get up on the roof when I remove the sn*w… I use a roof rake that I can reach most of the panels from the deck on my house. I don’t climb around on roofs anymore! I occasionally get Benign Positional Vertigo and up on a roof is really not a good place to be when I get one!

Starting work on a new part of the layout. The fun here is trying to figure out how to get out of the corner I painted myself into, so to speak.&

Bowl of oatmeal with one last coffee, this time in a Heisler mug, please.

Looks like resistance soldering is the way to go for track using DCC. I’ve never tried this. Even though I will be using Kato (HO) Unitrack, the more I have read about it, the more inclined I am to solder x-number of sections together with power leads to each section. Still more I need to learn about this, so any suggestions will be appreciated as always.

Time to take more hay out for the horses and do evening critter rounds.

Cheers! [C):-)] Rob

Good afternoon Diners,

Flo, I’ll have my usual abnormally large cup of coffee with copious amounts of cream, please.

Not much happening here today. The weatherman said we were to get snow all day. The sun is shining right now. Just helping MOH tidy up around the house because we both have to work all week, and that’s a good thing.

YGW: I like the work well enough and it is enjoyable. It isn’t actual design, but like I said, it is related. It is nice to be back in commercial again. But, as a result of everything, I find I miss kitchen and bath. Either way, I love what I do!

Galaxy: I truly hope you can take advantage of the potential romantic possibilities as a result of your surgeries. I hope that’s ok to say and not have to talk to Vinnie and the boys downtown, ya know? (Feigned Don Carlione voice). Anyway, I wish the twain of you well.

Ulrich: Really good to see you posting again.

i hope you all are OK, safe, and warm. Spring is 3 weeks away.

LOL, yeah, and a high of 21 for Friday!

The space heater is doing its best, but it’s not meant to heat a split level by itself. The wife is convinced the furnace is providing heat, so she’s keeping between me and the circuit breaker box so I can’t shut it off. She also refuses to have the HVAC guy come out, even though her mom has had pipes burst the last two winters. The last air temperature I saw inside was 51, and it’s 45 in the train room. [banghead] George Carlin was right!!!

Good Afternoon,

A sunny day here in the Great White North. We are at -6C today which is a heat wave for us.

Galaxy, hope the surgery goes well.

Rob, if you recall I have Kato Unitrack for my HO layout that I laid in 2007. I didn’t solder any rail joiners and have a feeder about every 10 feet. I have never experienced a power drop. One of the big advantages of Unitrack is the rail joiner as they are far more secure than the typical Atlas type. In fact if you tried to solder one I think the plastic would melt. If you use Kato’s power feeders, you should not have any problems. At least I haven’t in the past 7 years. The Atlas track and turnouts in the service yard are another matter. I have been tempted to rip up that yard and replace the track but it is a lot of work.

Well tonight is a big PBS night with the season finale of Downton Abbey plus a couple of other shows we like so I will be parked from about 6:30.

CN Charlie

Evenin’ folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me please.

The family went out to Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner tonight as that was where Granddaughter #2 wanted to go for her Birthday Dinner. She will be 6 this coming Thursday. I dunno, I seem to remember that at least the chicken used to be good at KFC… I wasn’t impressed tonight. Was very over cooked and tasteless and the chicken was the best part of the meal… My son had some sort of coupon that he used so the price was pretty cheap. Went back over to his house for cake and Ice Cream after dinner. That was good!

Driving was not good out there tonight. We got a mixture of sn*w and freezing rain. I decided to drive into Waterloo and take the main road home rather than the shorter back road over to Geneva that my son lives on. Good choice I think. Even the main road was treacherous on the way home. I arrived safe and more or less sound and headed down to the train rooms and got a bit more done. This is an area I am somewhat planning as I go. Have an idea of what I want to do, but need to make a lot of decisions on how to get there.

Uncle Bob, You might remind her the cost of repairing the damage that burst pipes would cause in the house and that insurance doesn’t cover negligence! I would say if your furnace and the space heater together are only keeping your house up to 51°F there is a definate problem. Oh, and don’t run the space heater without someone being up to watch it. Major fire hazard! Read about them all the time in the newspaper. Hope you are well insured. I would inform her that either the space heater has to turned off for the night or she ne

I think were getting the rain that was forcast, just a little later. It rained good Sat. night and was dry while driving and walking for church. And now its raining pretty good and has been for a hour.

I see I got the top so order the most expensive thing on the menue and the guy behind you has to pay for it. At least thats how it currently works.

I pm’d todd, cederstrand, and Heartland division!

Yep, GARry, It got to me! I have always saved old PMs especially ones with address or the like

I am RESTLESS tonight!

[8-|]

GOOD MONDAY MORNING!## MARCH 2,2015!## For those who need them:## HEALING ENERGIES## POSITIVE THOUGHTS

Still RESteless, i will explain later when not so restles…

[8-|]

Good morning Diners… Coffee and a doughnut, please.

Galaxy and I found out I could post in an old PM thread, and it gets delivered. I still can’t send a new PM, and evidently new PM’s don’t get to me.

I can’t figure out why my settings don’t allow new PM threads.

Today, I am planning on working on the layout. I will take a break from working on taxes.

I pm’d you Garry…

Thanks to all who donate/wish to donate!

If we can’t help our friends, who can we help???

ANywho someties when a certian sleep aid/anti depressent it makes me all nervous and jerky litertally !

That was the probelmn last night why I was so restless…its like I have too much energy to disprese and can’t focus on any one thing, literally my hands go rapid shaking…the Doc says when that happens to lay off it a few days…still a bit Restelss…

Well, I have to try to attempt some chores…

[8-|]

Hmmm, do healing energies work for Uncle Bob’s furnace? Nope. If it’s an oil burner and it kicks off after 15 seconds after trying to start, chances are there’s a problem with the fuel feed or the igniter. It’s not going to fix itself, but it’s probably a small part. We have a service contract with our oil company, so stuff like that is covered. Even if you don’t, it’s not a do-it-yourself repair. Make the call. It’s cheaper than frozen pipes or pneumonia.

Oh, Monday. The “bah” factor is gone now that I’m retired. With my wife out of town, I don’t watch any live TV at all, so I lose track of days.

Mornin’ everyone!

Zoe, I’ll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup and a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee please.

Galaxy, hope you get feeling more normal soon. I have still got some pain in my right shoujlder. I think it would go away if I could actually get to sleep lying on my left side… Once I do fall asleep, I generally don’t change positions until Blackie hops up on the bed and comes over to play with my CPAP.

My son should be calling me soon. He promised that he would come over and help me move the 100 gal. aquarium into the dining room. No way I could move that by myself. Once that is done I can start to move and clean a bit in there. Still waiting to hear back from the Contractor to get an estimate. If I haven’t heard in a couple more days I will email him again. His business is very busy and he gets tied up with things so I will give him a bit of room on the time issue. Once he does set a date for the work, he will be here with his crew right on time!

I am going to try to get done with all the paper side of the tax stuff today. Get all the file folders sorted out and then get the stuff stored down cellar. Filed all my tax returns a week ago. Will get a bit back from the Federal and will owe both NYS and WI a few bucks. Anyway once that is all done, I can remove and store one of the leafs from the dinig room table which will give me more room in the dinigroom/office to oput all the living room stuff. Found out the electronic recycling place in town is closed until further notice. The original local company got bought out by a large recycling company (big improvement they said) based in the UK. That company just suddenly stopped paying salaries (nobody knows why) and then renigged ojn the rent for the building. So the city finally out a lock on the door and the closed signs up.

Italian Roast coffee in a Barnwell & Searchlight Railway mug, please.

***CN Charlie, did you use insulated UniJoiners between those 10’ sections? What type of Unitrack switches did you use? I’ve planned on using manual #6 switches. On the old layouts, I never bothered with the turnout control switches and always ended up just doing them by hand. Figured I’ll save some money this time around and just go with manual from the start.[:)]

***Ray, my cats leave the cpap alone, but Millie Kitty still wants to settle on my chest and massage my beard.[(-D] Sad part is, even the weight of a cat on my chest sometimes makes it hard to breathe. Glad your son is going to give you a hand.

The heat pump guy still can’t make it out here. Looks like Weds now. So, I’ll continue with the two space heaters for this side of the house. Glad not to be battling the temps Uncle_Bob is dealing with. Yikes!

Have watched some really interesting vids of trains rolling over very bad tracks. I doubt model trains could pull off some of what the full scale trains do.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Cheers! [C):-)] Rob

Garry - Oh thats right that season is approaching fast. I am dreading this year I think I may end up having to pay.

Rob - Isnt that amazing how bad some track is. I have seen video that I would bet donuts to dollars that the train would derail if it ran cross some of those noodled tracks. But it doesnt. Just wobbles and twist and runs on through !!!

Galaxy - Hop your shoulder gives some relief today. Taking any pain meds

Uncle bob - Here is a quick wy to settle the discussion. Take a thermoter and stick it in the either the supply or return vent and read it after an hour or so. The reading should be with in 5 degrees of the temp. setting. If it is lower than that there is a problem.

Lots of frozen rain and sleet out my yesterday. Went out to start the truck this morning and just standing in my driveway I was sliding down hill ! The wethermen are calling for more tomorrow after noon. I think I will head home early and try to beat the tangled messes of wrecks and back ups.

Welp down to one more BBall game for the girls season ( yhea !!) which has been about two and half months long and then onto some more RR modeling and me time. Except of course the honey do list which I have to catch up on. [:(]

Good Afternoon,

A balmy -6C and sunny here today.

Rob, I use DCC so no insulated rail joiners were used on the layout except for the engine service yard so I can cut the power to the whole yard. I have powered #6, manual #4 and powered #4 turnouts. Note that the powered and unpowered #4s are not the same at all. The construction is different. You can add power control to the manual turnouts by purchasing a seperate unit. Any other questions, you only have to ask as I would be happy to help if I can.
