Good morning from the left side of America (the Canadian part) just above the 49th. It is cool today and that should slow down the snow melt. Parts of the Province are running up to a “hundred year flood” situation. The wife and I always check the altitude of any property we are looking at, we don’t want any part of that thankyou.
The national sledge hockey tourney was a big success last weekend. The kid ended up being the public address announcer for the games, announcing goals, penalties and awards presentations. He did a great job, the whole tourney was online so even when I wasn’t there we could watch. They had plenty of help this year which was good as I didn’t have it in me to do more than a day.
There were guys from the Olympics there on some of the teams, the caliber of play was top shelf. Lots of war vets that have lost legs, seeing how they cope and hearing their stories makes me wonder how some physically unscathed people can complain so much.
Got to get up at 0530hrs tomorrow and get the kid to Vancouver to write one of the exams he got deferred so he could do a movie.
Had tornados in Winnipeg when I was a wee lad but was too young to remember.
That guy in the video should have been running for cover, that’s for sure.
Ray, keep up the good work on getting back in shape, I am afraid I am going in the opposite direction as just moving is becoming more and more painful. I was told it would get this way but was hoping they were wrong. At least I still have the discipline to push myself away from the dinner table. That is hard as my wife is a tremendous cook. She comes by it honestly as her father was a big-time executive chef. I was in incredible condition up into my early forties so that may help in the long run.
Steven, congrats on graduation! That was a long time ago for me, 1976 to be exact. Real life took off big time after that and considering I had no idea where I was going, it turned out reall
Flo, the gang and I will have a [B] please and give Rick and Steven what they want.
Felt a tad better today. Did get the front yard cut and it was not as bad as the last time. Need to start working out again.
Ray Congrat on losing the weight. I lost 125 pounds my self but it was a diet. Soon as I hit the weight I wanted and stopped the diet it came back with a extra 25 pounds to boot. So no more diets for me! This time I changed my life style. Pretty sure the weight I have lost will not come back.
Steven Congratulation on the Graduation. On the T-1 first thing I would do is run the engine upside down and check the front drivers for wheel wabble. Is it a Pargon engine or Pargon II. Reason I ask is BLI has no parts for and will not work on a pargon engine.
BoyI am a Glunt For Pushiment! [:-^] I went to K-10 Model Trains and bought 2 more PRR Coaches! One is a Bachmann and it should not be much on a problem. Famous last words! [swg] One of the couplers pockets is dropping but I know the fix for it. Other one is name is Lake Merritt and it is made by the same company of my Centfaun. Bought more truck to fix the Centfaun than anything.
Ray: congratulations on your weight loss. Well done.
Steven: congratulations on granulating high school (Intentional spelling). Now that the world is closing in, I hope all your dreams come true.
Mr. B: Having grown up in tornado alley, I feel marginally qualified to speak. Growing up, when the weatherman on radio or TV said tornado “warning,” that meant that one was sighted on the ground headed your way. Nothing less! That was saying take cover immediately! When I moved up to Chicago, the weather people would throw around the word “warning” non chalantly like they throw around “wind chill.” That has since somewhat changed for the better, but still not the imperative that we had back home.
Oh well, my[2c].
Hello to everyone, and I hope everybody Is OK and safe.
Ken, wise decision! A total change of lifestyle is what I have done as well. Now over the last 4 months or so I have actually lost a little over 15 lbs. But that and the starting to walk and lift some weights (upper body) have helped mu arthrytis and spinal stenosis big time. Over the 20 years, I woud reach a plateau then gain some back, then lose more, and gain that back again… I did come down from 325 lbs. to around 185, and stayed right there for 5 or 6 years. then I would get excersizing and and get down to about 265, etc. I was at about 235 when I shaved off the beard and got serious about getting the weight off. 220 feels really good to be feeling better and getting, ah, should we say more casual interest from many ladies I know.
Thanks to several of you for the kind comments, BTW!
Have to get a couple more things done and then head to bed for the night. Tomorrow is walk at the fieldhouse day again, and then run several errands in the afternoon.
“In those days the best painkiller was ice; it wasn’t addictive and it was particularly effective if you poured some whiskey over it.” - George Burns
Kevin … thanks for your comment in my thread about LaGrange Hobby Center. . It looked like nobody was going to say anything, and I would have felt like nobody cared.
Ray. Congrats on the weight loss.
Ken … sounds like you too are losing weight. Kudos.
One powerful, massive force meets another powerful, massive force! Truly sobering as you say. Especially the sight of that tank car, sparks and all, heading right toward the cab!
I remember in the early 1980s a co-worker said his cousin was clearing some timber in western Pennsylvania and if I wanted any free firewood, come-and-get-it.
When I got to his site he had a working sawmill setup. The guys around said I should climb up that hill and take a look at what they were working on.
Once I got to the crest I could look across the valley and clearly see a path of mowed-down trees and timber that looked like a gargantuan back-hoe had scraped that valley and cut a trench about a mile long and maybe a hundred-yards wide.
Come to think of it, I recall posting this photo not long ago:
Later today is registration and then a tour of the high school, if I happen to see a few of my old video teachers I’ll grab a selfie! I’m hoping to meet up with my friend she’s from Louisiana too and graduating. After the tour all the seniors are going to be hanging out at the PCC activity center which has bowling, ice skating, a water park. (Now theres a conundrum a Christian college has a water park, but they are so conservative that they want guys and girls to wear T-shirts over their swimwear, even while in the water?! Don’t they know that Tees get very clingy when wet? Whatever!)
Tomorrow at 1:50 PM Central Time, Abeka begins the live stream of the ceremony, I’ll probably be one of the last to be called being that my last name is Zechnick [(-D] KIDDING it’s actually Ward like a hospital ward?! Here’s a link to it for anyone who wants to watch!
We leave in an hour for Branson, MO … Tomorrow night, we ride the dinner train. Altogether, there will be 4 couples (2 from KY, 1 from IL, and 1 from MO) … 4 model train nuts and their wives… …Should be fun.
I am back from a tiring, but successful day! Claus and I met at his place and we drove to the nearest DIY place to buy the plywood table top for my layout. Well, at least we tried. My local store didn´t have what I wanted, and the place close Claus´ home didn´t either. The next place we tried had it - and even considerably cheaper than the two we tried before. It took us all day to build the frame, round the corners of the table top, assemble the whole thing and give it a first coat of paint.
Now it´s at my place, ready to receive the second coat of paint on the surface, which I will do tomorrow, providing Petra lets me.
Good morning, it is a pleasant day on the West Coast. Warm and bright with a high OC.
Drove the kid into Vancouver at 0700hrs for his exam this morning. There was no rush hour traffic for some reason and thus we were an hour early. There was a McDonalds across the street so he went for breakfast and I went home. He is taking the bus back as far as he can get and I will pick him up.
Steven, I laughed at the bit about the kids having to cover up. Those people better never visit Tahiti, they will be in for a shock. I find it is the same people that get bent out of shape about scantily clad or topless women, have a fit if a woman chooses to wear a head or face covering. It is legal in British Columbia for women to go topless by the way.
Got four tickets for Deadpool2 tomorrow $81.00 for four at the IMAX. I want to see Solo as well and that will be it for movies at the theatre for a while. When the kids were younger I would load up the truck on a rainy Saturday and take them and a bunch of their friends to the movies. That would be an expensive afternoon but we had lots of fun.
Garry, hope you have a great trip and yes take pic’s.
Ed, I’ll pass on the Sundaes thanks, too many sit-ups in one of those. I had a sit-up competition with the kid when he got home. We always have competed in cycling or sit-ups or push-ups, it keeps me young.[:-^] He cleans my chronometer every time though.
I think I will look into seeing if there are upgrades for my NCE system. The thread on the DCC command systems has got me wondering. Mine is ten years old. The only thing I would like an upgrade for would be on the recall stacking. I like to run three trains sometimes and it only recalls one so it is a bit of a pain that way.
Been thinking of Hawaii a lot because of the volcanoes. The wife and I are thinking of getting a place there, maybe on Kaui, it is a quick trip to get there. Once both kids are in University there is no reason to win
Had orientation, saw my friend, she was with her sister, their family is not doing any of the school activities they’re hanging at the beach. I know for sure that I WILL NOT be going to PCC (abekas partner college) they are attempting to control every aspect of the weekend, but ahh well. A little side note on the swim wear thing, I just learned this earlier, the Waterpark is open to just girls for a few hours and then just guys for a few more hours! They’re a bit too over the top![(-D]
Unless you’ve got torrents of water sluicing into your basement, it might be doing that for the same reason mine did a few years back. The pump runs until the water drops below the trigger level, then it shuts off, and all the water in the pipe above the pump comes back down, fills up the sump, and triggers the pump again. Manually hold the trigger lever up a few extra seconds so the pump runs longer and actually empties the sump, giving it (and you) some respite.
