Happy Thanksgiving to all those around the world celebrating today.
It is a Sunny day on the West Coast and 14c.
Actually, Thanksgiving is celebrated by many countries around the world and was done so long before 1621. I would think the pilgrims that came from Holland to “the new world” just brought the celebration with them and did not invent it when the boat hit Plymouth rock.
Years ago I had an interest in early explorers (before 1621) and according to their logs, ships Captains would try and make landfall and go ashore to celebrate Thanksgiving if able to do so. Also, the Pilgrims were pretty much wearing rags and living off of mostly seafood at the time. Saying life was hard is probably an understatement at best, (I would not have survived)[:(] Big hats and shiny buckles were an invention of Walt Disney if I remember my childhood right.[(-D] Not sure when turkey became the official fare of the day.
I had mentioned that we bought a new Kingsize mattress at an auction dirt cheap a couple of weeks back. Well, this week we got a brand new $4200.00 lazyboy power recliner loveseat for $300.00. We had gone to Lazyboy to buy a new one and decided to check the auction house first. They had tons of Lazyboy stuff from an out of business retailer. Someone got a huge $8500.00 sectional for $1200.00, still had all the plastic on it. We will need a new fridge soon as ours is getting on at 22 years. Those are plentiful at auctions it seems. I guess a lot of furniture stores are about as successful as restaurants.
Never smoked and didn’t ever drink until I was in my thirties. Started to have some decent money by then and started eating in some pretty good restaurants. Wine just made the meal so much better. That being said I think I have only had two drinks in the last three months. That’s about the norm these days.
Every person I have personally known that has died from cancer was a smoker. I have and do know nonsmokers w
Flo, The Great Ed, Jan, Gary, Brent, Ulrich, Angelob, UP 831, Galaxy and I will have some cold turkey please.
Rough start today, felt like I had a hang over. Checked my Blood Surgar and it was only 54? Had half a glass of Grape Soda and started feeling better around 9:30.
Thanks GivingMeal Prep. Got the onions, celery, deviled eggs done last night when I got home. Sue was feeling better today and made the stuffing. I was in charge of the truckey so it was not to well done. I bought a truckey roster few years back and it sure cooks quick! This year we had a small bird, only 11 pounds and it was done in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Should have turned it off after 2 hours, bone was starting to show on the drum sticks but meat was still moist.
Made my self some sausage stuffing with medium sausage and it is good. Made three bowels of straight stuffing for the family. Daughter made some green bean casserole and as usual it was good.
Over all it was a good Thanks Giving and I did enjoy it this year.
Hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving! I had a good day except for the tedium of being around my sister who, of course, disliked everything I said and made it known to all… But that is normal for her. She can’t figure out why she has no friends left either.
The big meal was big and very tasty. I ate more than have in quite some time and am still full from the meal. I had a small repast this evening after I got home though to take my meds.
I haven’t taken my evening blood sugar yet, but it shouldn’t be too bad.
I spent a few minutes down cellar in the train room and have the freight Car I won at the raffle at the convention together. Ended up putting a pair of Kaydee Vulcan Trucks on the car. It is way too modern for my layout, but I will probably run it anyway. Nice little shake the box Accurail Kit. I will not run the crappy Accurail trucks or couplers on any of my rolling stock…
Tomorrow I get to go back over to my son’s house and have a repeat performance of the Thanksgiving Dinner again (Leftovers) sans my irritating sister… Now that should be fun!
Good Thanksgiving wishes to all. Son and DIL came for dinner. Daughter and SIL went to his family in Indiana.
All was perfect. Celebrated son’s promotion at a huge world wide organic food didtributor, and DIL’s promotion, she is a special education teacher, dealing with kids from the “hood”.
We are going to be low key here at home this Christmas, just simple decorations, as no family stuff here, we had that last year.
My sweet wifey says she thinks it would be great to have an N scale train running around our table top tree. [:D] [:P] [8D] [bow] My On3 train I wanted to set up won’t fit. Soooooooo, I get to go shopping! [(-D]
Missus Pullman and I had two nice visits with family today and two great meals! Very thankful!
Garry, I can answer YES to three of those conditions [:|] I saved my fairly clean Chinet plate for dessert; We keep soft drinks and bottled water in the un-heated “mud room” just off the main house; we live off a cul-de-sac on a long gravel drive [:D]
No Vienna sausage but we DO have Venetian blinds, does that count? (my dad did love his Armour Vienna sausage, though. Better than potted meat, I guess?)
I hope you are all doing well this evening. Thoughts of support and comfort for those who are not so well off.
Flo, Ed, Gary, Brent, Inch, Ulrich, Galaxy, Angelob, UP 831, Jan and I will have a glass of Boone’s Farm Strewberry Hill Wine please.
And You Folks Did not think I know wine! [(-D] To be honest, it is the only wine I have had that I liked, not that I have had much wine.
Beatuful Day Today! High was 68 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.
Brent I went to your U-Tube link and watched The Un-Stopable video. If I am remembering correctly it is in your living room? Boy, either you have a Great Wife or you are a heck of a conman! Either way [bow] What is the sizes of the layout and grade? Do you by chance still have a layout digram? Can each line be ran as a seprate line? What engines where you running and how many cars where in the diesle train? Have you added any more details? Would love a more current viedo.
Spatchedcocked turkey was a success. The gravy was not. I didn’t have enough liquids in the bottom of the pan and the drippings and sliced apples burned, so I could not use that. My gravy was lump free but not much different in color or texture form the mash potatoes.
Pumpkin cheesecake was outstanding.
Video on the news tonight from Australia. A blonde in a bare midrift top is walking across the tracks in a subway? station. Gets to the wall of the elevated platform and a couple guys pull her up and out a second or two before the incoming train pulls in.
About the time I started up the machine that makes painkiller medicine—among other things, it can also be used as a fuel in an internal combustion engine, embalming fluid, sterilize medical instruments, paint remover, a marinade for veggies, or an astringent for after shave. I make it in several flavors, and various strengths, and volatilizations.
Zoe, I’ll have a bowl of organic granola with skim milk, and a pot of Marrakeesh Express Dark Roast Organic, Fair Traded Coffee to start my day. Thank you Ma’am!
Oh my Gosh… Fergie!, that is you sitting back there. Nice to see you sir… I take it you are back on shore for now. Hope you are finding some time for the layout. Yes all “legal” beverages are served in the diner these days. Since it is virtual it doesn’t lead to brawls and such. Frankly I rarely touch the stuff, but do like a nice glass of Finger Lakes Wine once in a while. I only go for the best you know! Anyway, good to see you, and do tell us what you’ve been up to these days.
After a nice sunny day yesterday the sky is once again dark and grey outside. Not gpoing to break any records for solar energy this month… and year. We don’t need any more rain here in the Finger Lakes. I have never seen a pond out in back of my gouse between mky property and the neighbors in November before… I is a swamp out ther at the moment. Water has stopped seeping in the basement at least.
I am supposed to get together with my son today to get the lights working on my small trailer (which sits out at his house right now) so I can get it inspected after the 1st. of December. Then I have to get it registered again. Hopefully after inspection we will get it back parked in my driveway for the winter. I have a lot more driveway room than he does… That will ingratiate me to my DIL… LOL
I have just one more day of being 70 years old and want to make the best of it. Catch you all later!
Ah yes, Unstoppable, When the movie came out in the theatre I loaded up the truck with a bunch of kids and told them we were going to see a movie I wanted to see this time. With a little apprehension, they agreed, after all, they would be getting a big bag of popcorn and drink out of the deal. The whole lot of them thoroughly enjoyed it and looked at my trains a little differently afterward.
Ken, I think there were about forty cars behind those two Atlas Trainmasters. I think those Trainmasters could pull my house down the street if I hooked them up. I remember we had a lot of fun filming that. At the end when I finally hook on to the back of the train just like in the movie, I was really worried about string lining the long freight. I was flipping back and forth between the two trains like crazy on the controller. Captain Kirk would have been proud (Qapla) that’s success in Klingon.[(-D]
Here is the camera car, it is so top heavy and rocked back and forth it made my trackwork look terrible.
The layout is in what is suppose to be a Nanny or in-law suite. It is 15’ x 24’. Those two doors you see are bedrooms, one is my trainroom office, the other the guest bedroom. I moved our Grand Piano into the living room while my wife was away at a dog show. When she walked in the door she said: “I see you started on your layout” and smiled. She’s the best.
It has about 200’ of mainline with three to four dozen turnouts. No grade is over 2% and that long climb up the spline hill is probably about 40’ long and is not a steady or set grade the whole way. The climb through the Rockies isn’t a set grade the whole way so that climb on my layout probably varies between 1/2 to near 2%. Not sure but, I think that gives long trains a bit of a breather along the way.[(-D] I have also tried
Hi gang. I hope everyone had a nice thanks giving. I’m happy to report that we had a good one. However when we got home later that night we got a call from the sheriff’s department that there was a cop killer that was armed and on foot in the neighborhood. The police helicopters were flying around spot lighting the ground and there were over twenty cops on foot with dogs looking for the guy. They told us to stay inside and pull the shades. They had all of the roads out here blocked too. It was kind of scary for a while. We then got a call that the guy had been found in a hay field and arrested not far from us. I’m glad they caught the guy and am really sorry about the state trooper he killed who was married with three little kids…
I haven’t had a chance to run trains lately but may go out tomorrow and put a little time in.
