Good very wet and windy afternoon from the soggy West coast.
The wife and I just got back from a 7.6km romp through the forest in the torrential rain and 70km winds with our four mutts. They are now sleeping it off in the kitchen family room with the dehumidifier on.
I had not been out with my buddy for almost three weeks as I had major fatigue and just could not stay awake. Yesterday we got back at it and went for 8km. Made pretty good time considering I have hardly moved for three weeks.
He was so happy to have his daily romp again that he climbed up in my lap at happy hour. Eighty pounds crushing a 65-year-old geezer. Is that a grey hair?

I wasn’t feeling great so looked for something on the tube to watch and saw a limited series called “Devil in Ohio”. Great I thought, maybe I’ll see Ed.[(-D]
So I am watching and in the second episode, I realize that this thing was filmed all around where I live more or less. I then remember that a couple of years ago I had stopped to watch a shoot for a while when I was out with the dog, they were shooting in the forest where we walk. I knew it was that show because the woman playing the Doctor came a chatted with me on two of the days I went by and the girl was there as well on the second day. They came over to pat the dog and we talked for quite a while. I thought they were part of the crew, not the actors.[(-D] I had kept thinking while watching the first episode the woman looked familiar and then I remembered. Can’t remember her name and didn’t recognize her as a famous person, but I don’t watch much TV.
They were filming her and the girl walking and/or running through the forest. In the show, they come out of the forest into a settlement that is actually 20km from that forest. The wonders of movie making.
Rick, if I ever got to ride in a fighter, straight up from the runway to the service ceiling is the one thin
A bit of Anzio trivia I can’t verify:
Who was the first American off the landing craft at the invasion of Anzio?
James Arness, known later as Marshall Dillon on Gunsmoke. They didn’t know how deep the water was, so they sent the biggest guy they had.
Hi guys,
been awhile since I have been in. I have been doing some layout work off and on during the summer and painting some WWII miniatures. I start a new job tomorrow so am kind of nervous ( new people, new job ) the pay is great and hours are great too Monday to Friday 6-2:30. I hope it goes okay. I will pop in and let you guys know tomorrow night.
jeremy
Good luck with the job, Jeremy! I hope it goes well.
Don’t be a stranger – check back more often to let us know how it’s going.
I just got the first layer of polyurethane on the workbench top. I stained and weathered it yesterday. It turned out exactly like I wanted.
I will share pictures in WPF next week.

Hi Ed,
I have never been to Italy either, but I’m willing to move the Diner too. You did it last month, and I haven’t done it for a couple of months, but I will leave it up to you.
Salute!! Chin chin!!
Dave
Are these for gaming,or just display? What scale/game?
-Kevin
I’d be glad to have you do the honor, Dave. I was just offering to be a second-string backup if no one else was available for the task.
Thanks and best wishes — Ed
Hi Ed,
I will gladly move the Diner. Italy, here we come!! Should be some interesting additions to the menu!
Cheers!!
Dave

Perhaps I’m biased Brent, but you can’t really go past the sound of the “Huey Whop”!!
To be perfectly honest Dave, fixed wing aircraft structural repair is my forte. Coming up with the appropriate repair scheme, fabricating, if necessary, and then installing the repair parts, and seeing the aircraft fly again, gives me the greatest satisfaction.
A company I worked for carried out the refurbishment programme for the RNZAF Hueys, and I was seconded to that particular section for a while. Later on, I was engaged to carry out a structural repair on a civilianised Huey, and things developed from there. I have more than enough experience on 6 different types of helicopters to satisfy the maintenance licence requirements, but have never really been that enthused to sit the exams. I guess I’m not “wired” properly to maintain them full time, I just enjoy dabbling.
Good morning rail friends

Judy and I did a cookie kit last night.

Kinda silly but was a fun time nonetheless[(-D]

Last year stuffed peppers for dinner and ditto again tonight as they were horrifyingly tasty[:-^]
I can imagine keeping aircraft safe to fly must be one of the most rewarding jobs there is Bear. Would like to have a glimpse of your sense of accomplishment at the end of the day[Y]
You asked if anyone has any objection to you hosting the diner in Italy this month Ed? Absolutely no objections from this neck of the woods as your always the Host With the Most[:)]
Have a great Halloween gentleman[;)]

Good morning Diners. A large coffee please, Brunhilda.
Chaos is over. [(-D] The grandchildren have taken their pumpkins and gone home.
An hour or so of peace and calm. Then we go for a flu jab.
Hopefully I shall be able to run trains my way. [:-^]
[dinner] Dawn wants a ‘Sunday Dinner’. We did not have one yesterday.
Bring your drink of choice you are all invited 6.30pm for 7.15pm U.K. time.
David
Good morning, diners. Happy Halloween, Flo, and I’ll have bacon and eggs, please.
David, I got my flu shot last week. Normally I don’t even feel the flu shot, but this year, for some reason, my arm actually hurt more than the second covid booster I got earlier this year. Maybe I’m getting old?
Bear, I’ve never ridden in a helicopter. It’s something I always thought I would enjoy, but the opportunity never came up. There are helicopter rides at some of the national parks, but I’ve never wanted to pay for the expensive ride.
TF, those cookies look great, and so does your last year’s stuffed peppers.
I’m looking forward to seeing the work. I’m sure it will turn out great.
Have a good last day in the October diner, everyone. I’m looking forward to Italy. I’d really like to take a week to get there on an ocean liner, but I guess we’ll fly to save time.
Thanks David, I’ll be there for Halloween dinner! [dinner] I know you do some mighty fine cooking over there but what are we having? I need to plan my preliminary food rations for today.
You know, …I need to know if I want to be hungry, very hungry, or extra hungry when I get there[(-D]…[;)]
P.S. Pumpkin pie for dessert I presume??? [(-D] Or is that Jack-O’-Lantern Pie? [:-^]

I’ve been to Italy twice, long ago in 1970 as a Eurailpass hippie and then a few years back to visit my daughter who was studying in Florence. I’ve never been to Rome, though.
I’ve been looking for my pictures for weeks, but can’t find them. I’ll keep trying.
A wonderful Fall afternoon to everyone (except that guy down under. To him a fine Spring day!)
I enjoyed the Helicopter stuff earlier! Last Spring in connection with something called “One Great Hour of Sharing” at my church. I bid on a Helicopter Ride (donated by a member who owns and operates a helicopter business). The year before, I got out bid at the last second. The value of the half hour ride for 2 people is $250. This time the bid was standing at $215, so I upped it to $230 but waited until there was only 8 seconds let to hit send… Heh, heh… This time I won it.
Ever since that, I have been trying to get the ride scheduled. A lady I am friends with will share the ride. She is my age and physically handicapped. Has to walk using a walker or a 4 footted cane. Was told, not a problem! They have gotten people using wheelchairs into the copter many times. So we set a date for it. 2 days before that time, I get an email from the owner. Can’t do it as a student pilot (He is an instructor) crashed the copter on his first solo run! Two months later he says we are good to go! Make a date… Drive all the way to the ladies house the other side of Rochester, NY. Pull into her driveway, and get a text! He had a flight earlier that day and something went wrong with some system on the copter. Had to cancel! I checked with him a few days later and he found the problem, but has to order a whole new system to be safe to fly. Has no idea when it up and safe to fly again!!! (sigh!)
Oh well, so much for “Fall Foliage” run.

I have only ridden in a helicopter one time…
NEVER AGAIN!
