JMRI Appt for Droid Cell Phones

Has anyone seen this yet? There is a JMRI App download for the Droid Cell Phone. It turns your Droid into a wireless throttle.

If you’ve used it, can you tell me about your experiences with it.

Mike

I’ve had the iPhone version for some time now. One f the few apps I paid money for, it’s worth it. Does a good job translating the touch interface into a control ‘knob’. Cheaper than a radio system, and it works with any supported DCC system (sorry MRC).

And you can call in a pizza order while double-heading up and over Sherman Hill. [Y]

Yeah, let’s see the crew of a REAL Big Boy do that!

You had to pay for the App on with your I-Phone? It is a free App for the Droid.

Anyways, so…basically the app turns your phone into a wireless DCC controller for any wireless DCC (non-MRC) system? Is that basically how it works? ****, why buy a new controller then?

There’s a free version that has a single throttle layout, the pay version has multiple options like left and right handed yard throttles where the stop is the middle of the slider, and dual throttles with 2 sliders to control two trains.

And exactly - it really does work well, it’s nut kludgy, and it’s not a gimmick, it’s very functional. You do need to have wifi and also a computer interface for your DCC system, so initial cost is a little more than just the app. I don;t count the computer, the wifi, or the phone in the cost as I’d have all three of those even if I wasn’t in model railroading and none of them is dedicated to my layout. Nice thing is if a coupel of friends come over who have any of the compatible devices, they now have a throttle too.

The DCC system doesn’t have to be wireless - It just needs a computer interface.

The wireless part is the WiFi from your smart phone to your computer, so you need a WiFi card for the computer, or a WiFi router.
