JMRI, NCE PowerPro SB5 and NCE AIUs

I’ve been running JMRI for a few years using an NCE PowerCAB with no real issues. I purchased a new PowerPro SB5 and installed it. Now the problem:

Previously , with my PowerCab and the external DCC to USB card, I can run locomotives, operate switches, and see block data from my AIUs on JMRI. Everything works fine.

When I switch over to my Power Pro and make the connection using the built in USB on the actual unit, I can still run locomotives and operate switches from JMRI, but Block data is not getting to my created sensors.
I’ve set the AIUs to address 50 and 51, I’m using the same configuration for JMRI with both the PowerCab and the PowerPro SB5. I reset the connection appropriately for which power system i’m using.

But, running PowerPro SB5, while everything else works fine, I cannot get AIU data to JMRI. the sensors are not reacting to the AIU… What am I missing.

FYI, it’s not a PowerPro SB5, they are two different products, the PowerPro and SB5. It appears you have the PowerPro because the SSB5 does not have a USB interface. I suspect you do not want the same configuration for JMRI for the two setups. The PowerCab USB interface also worked with the PowerPro, but did not support it’s full functionality, so with the same settings JMRI probably would not expect full functionality. According to the latest PowerPro manual (which I had a heck of a time finding, can just say NCE’s website is garbage?) the PowerPro built in USB interface does support the full functionality, so it is likely internally interfaced directly to the PowerPro’s serial port instead of the cab bus. I’m not sure off hand what the NCE settings are for JMRI, but if there is not a specific setting for the PowerPro’s built in USB, you may actually need to tell JMRI you are using a serial connection.

The NCE website went from bad to worse a couple of years back. It is essentially useless right now.

So, I took at look at JMRI’s website and they do have a setting for the PowerPro USB connection. For the NCE system connection preference they have two USB settings - NCE USB and PH5 USB, you’ll want the PH5 USB setting. The USB port is a fairly recent addition to the PowerPro (2023), so if you don’t have a late version of JMRI you’ll need to update it - in fact, if you don’t have the latest I would recommend updating, because with it being a new feature the latest version would be less likely to have any bugs.
