Jmri programming/speed matching with Linux system

Anyone here use the Linux system with JMRI and is it compatable with it?

I do not use it, but I saw Linux loaded on a laptop, and running JMRI. Linux is supported by JMRI - Go to their website site for full config/support info…

Yes, JMRI will run on Linux. But I tried JMRI on Linux and although I love JMRI, Linux was a disappointment.

Even though I bought a paid distro that inclued support, what I wanted to use as a hobby tool was turning into a hobby itself. Maintaining and working with Linux was taking up far too much of my hobby time.

So I dumped Linux for Windows and never looked back. My current layout computer is a home-built box with an i5-2500K processor running Windows 10. No fuss, no muss, it Always Just Works.

JMRI works fine on Linux. My railroad room computer was an Intel Atom system with Linux, and JMRI ran both my Locobuffer connected tot he layout and my standalone PR3 program track sitting next to it. The only difficulty was that I had to set permissions on the USB port for the PR3 - but this is mentioned on the JMRI site.

Another Linux user here and JMRI…

As Randy pointed out, permissions need to be set for the usb with PR3 but if you are fluent with Linux or can follow directions, its a piece of cake…

I had JMRI and pr3 up and running in less than 15 minutes but am still finding my way around JMRI itself, has more features than I know what to do with…

As for Linux, I only use that, windows is what I open to let the breeze thru…
